Chapter 5: Moving On

Anglo-Saxon England, Hampshire, Winchester

Upon returning to Winchester, a great feast was held to celebrate the victory. Nobles were drinking and cheering, soldiers were congratulating their brothers-in-arms and the people rejoiced for their King's success.

A light ring could be heard at the head of the table as Uther tapped his goblet with a fork. The nobles all quietened down to listen.

"Today, we were given a great victory, but all of the hard work must be attributed to the great man at my side."

He pointed to Edward as all the nobles raised their wine to him and cheered.

"However, the exploits of Earl Lyore must be kept a secret, to protect his kind - the magical kind."

"Therefore, it is royal decree that all scholars must write of the Battle of Kington as a victory due to the mighty English tactics."

"No records will mention Earl Lyore's magic, only that his tactics led to the triumph over the Welsh."

"On top of that, everyone will have their memory of the battle altered by Earl Lyore, except for nobility, but even they are forbidden to tell the truth of the event to anyone."

The nobles exchanged shocked looks and wondered why the Earl would not want his mighty power shown to the world.

"However, we had a magical scholar view and record the event."

Uther revealed a small, scrawny man wearing a baggy, white robe. Although he looked weak, Edward could detect a moderately powerful magical signature radiating from him - nothing compared to Merlin's though.

"Good day Lords of King Uther's court, I am a wizard, although I cannot be compared to Sir Lyore."

He bowed deeply and looked at Edward with reverence gleaming in his eyes.

Afterwards, he rolled open a scroll of slightly golden parchment and read.

"From this day forth, the true nature of the exploits of Court Wizard, Earl Edward Lyore will be recorded in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, while the King of England will disguise them. This will be the same for all future battles Court Wizard Lyore takes part in."

Once finished, he rerolled the parchment, bowed and left.

Uther clapped his hands.

"Well then, continue the feast!"

Over the next 16 years, Edward fought relentlessly with Uther and developed his territory in Somerset. In every battle, he had revealed new magic - Fiendfyre, Aqua Eructo and even his own creation, Frozen Tempest.

Firstly, he had expanded into Devon and Cornwall, increasing the size of his lands, although he decided not to develop these areas as, after the Norman Conquest, they would probably be revoked.

As well as that, Uther had led many campaigns against the Irish tribes, eventually conquering the entirety of the island about 600 or 700 years too early.

Whoops!

However, Uther's reign was close to ending and afterwards, Edward would let history take its course.

Anglo-Saxon England, Hampshire, Winchester, 1032

Edward had ridden up from his main home, Frome Castle, upon hearing the news of King Uther's illness.

As he entered the large wooden doors of Winchester Castle, he was greeted by a servant, who guided him towards the King's bedchamber with a grave look on his face.

Inside of the bedchamber, the bed curtain had been drawn revealing a sickly man lay upon the uncomfortable feather mattress, confined to the wooden frame. His sunken eyes looked towards Edward and he forced a smile.

"Ahhh, Edward, how are you?" a weak croak echoed through the stone room.

"I'm fine Uther, or should I say King Uther of Ireland, Wales and England?"

The servant took this opportunity to leave the room.

"Haha, as if I could do any of this without you Edward. I truly struck gold when you appeared in my court," Uther wheezed.

He beckoned Edward to come closer with a frail hand.

"So what will you do now?"

Edward had already thought this through.

"I will develop my territory and visit Europe before it's my time to go."

Of course, when he said 'go' he didn't mean die: he was immortal after all.

"That damn Wizard's blood, even now you still look like you're 30," Uther sighed.

"Will you look after my son Edward? For me?"

Uther had suddenly turned serious as he stared into Edward's eyes.

"I'm afraid I cannot. However, my son, Merlin surely will aid him."

"Thank you. That brings me great relief."

Uther leaned back into his mattress with a groan and seemed to be prepared for death.

"Goodbye Edward."

"Goodbye Uther."

Just like that, he left.

Edward returned home to Cynewise and gave her a peck on the cheek.

Cynewise had her life span increased to 250 making her still look in her mid 30s, even though she was 70 years old.

"How are you, dear?" Edward asked lovingly.

"As fine as a pregnant woman can be," Cynewise smiled.

"What can I do for my lady then?" Edward did a little mock bow.

Seeing this, she giggled a little and threw her arms around him.

"Maybe you could cook us something, our baby is very hungry."

Edward leaned down to come face to face with the bump.

"Is that true, or is your mother being a pig again?"

Cynewise pretended to be angry and slapped Edward on the head.

Edward ignored this and began to nuzzle the bump.

"How dare you call your mother fat little Michael! You need to be punished," Edward said as he continued to rub his nose against the bump.

"Haha...Edward...stop....it tickles..." Cynewise said between fits of laughter.

3 months later, Michael Lyore was born.

He grew up as a happy, adventurous child that had a tendency toward mischief, which didn't sit well with his mother. His father, on the other hand, found his antics hilarious and his encouragement of the behaviour often resulted in a slap to his head.

"Father, when are you going to teach me magic?" a seven year old Michael pleaded with his father.

"Well, since you're now as old as Merlin when he learnt, I'll teach you."

"Yes!" Michael cheered.

Edward led him out into the beautiful courtyard. Flowers bloomed from every corner, hedge figures stood majestically as they were cared for by servants and fountains glistened in the Summer sun.

Past the gardens was a large expanse of greenery and Edward brought Michael to a large tree in the centre.

"So, the first thing to do is to get your magic running. Allow it to flow through your veins from the magical supply in your core."

Edward had acquired the ability to see the movement of magic throughout the body, and he watched as Michael pumped magic throughout his body from the core.

He was a genius, no question about it.

There was a couple mistakes in the circulation method, making it more inefficient, but it was a success on the whole.

"Father, I think I've got it!" Michael announced happily.

"Well done, my boy. Your technique is a bit rough on the edges but overall you've got it."

Edward smiled. He knew why Michael had this ridiculous talent - it was because of his bloodline.

***

Years ago.

"System, can I modify and fuse bloodlines?"

[Yes. Any bloodline can be fused with another and modified.]

"Then get all bloodlines in the shop and fuse them."

[Purchasing bloodlines...]

[Fusing bloodlines...]

[Fusion complete]

"Now let's modify it!"

[Modifying to maximize advantages...]

[Modification complete]

"Right, let's look at the finished product."

[Lyore Bloodline (Harry Potter) - All spells 1200% more effective/powerful. Charms 1250% more effective/powerful. Legillimency and Occulemency 700% more powerful. Crafted Items 400% more powerful. Poison Immunity. Metamorphmagus. 1000% more MP. Additional +100 to all stats, +1000 to Intelligence. All Harry Potter languages known. Stats increase much faster. Leaning and brain speed and capacity increased by 1000%]

Yeah. It was kind of overpowered.

Luckily for the world's balance, only a twentieth of the bloodline's power would be given to the talented Lyore descendants (1/40 for normal ones) after Michael (who got a tenth of the power), but it still gave them an unfair advantage.

(All languages known is unchanged for the descendants but poison immunity changes to resistance)
