Chapter 81: huh?
Alex pulled out a stick from his pocket.
'That is….'
Jason recognized what Alex was holding. He held a small stick that had a button at the bottom. Alex pressed it, and out came a sword.
'What's that?'
'This thing can easily cut through steel. Let's see if the same applies to concrete.'
The sword started vibrating. It vibrated rapidly and produce a force which made it heavier.
'Everyone get back.'
Alex stabbed the ceiling, and thankfully the sword went through. Alex began cutting the concrete. The concrete was very thick, making it slow work. The water rose, and the room was only a few inches away from completely filling up.
When an inch was left. A big cube of concrete was cut through the ceiling. Mysteriously from above came even more water. Alex pushed Hikaru up. Then Jason and finally, they all arose from a shallow lake.
Hikaru spat out water from his mouth and coughed severely. He was too worn out to swim. Alex helped him reach dry land.'
'Listen, head straight back to your apartment, and don't tell anyone about this.'
Alex told him.
Hikaru was no fool. He knows what happened today isn't supposed to be known or happen. He only nodded. Alex helped him get on a train. Hikaru went the rest of the way himself.
Alex headed home in Kanagawa with Jason. Seeing Alex was able to use the graphene sword, Jason couldn't help but ask.
'Alex, can you generate electricity?'
He replied in disappointment.
'The batteries saved us this time.'
The past few hours were hectic. Alex relaxed on the sofa in his house. Jason wondered what to do next. It was clear that something big was going to happen.
--Is Jira trying to start a war? No, that is not it. The question is, is Jira trying to start a war now?
As he thought, the doorbell distracted him.
'Who is it?'
Alex asked. No reply was given. Instead, the door was forcefully banged. Banging turned into pounding when someone eventually kicked the door open. It was Vanessa who let herself in.
She was fuming with anger. She walked with one hand holding a rope.
'Do you have any idea what you two have done ?!'
Alex and Jason looked at each other, daring not to reply.
'I had found the underground network a week ago and was tracking Jira's movements. I was this close to locating the nuclear warheads, and it's base, but now, thanks to you two, it's all flooded.'
She spoke with a fuming voice. Jason couldn't look her straight last, but Alex spoke skeptically.
'Wait. How do you know it was us?'
Vanessa pulled the rope, and a loud thump was heard. Alex looked in the hallway, and it was Hikaru, all tied up and his mouth duct-taped. Vanessa reeled in the squirming boy ripping off his duct, and his scream followed.
'I'm sorry, Alex.'
'Oh. So that's how.'
'I tried being nice, but you leave me no choice.'
Vanessa pulled out her phone and held it to her ear.
'Hello, it's agent 459931. I want to report a breach of orders. Agent 483947 has violated rule 162. According to it, I ask you to take immediate action.'
Vanessa ended the call. The moment she put her arm down. Jason's phone started ringing. Vanessa took out his phone and gave it to him.
'Answer it, and put it on speaker.'
Jason hesitantly took the phone and attended the call.
'Hello.'
'Agent 483947. You have been reported with breaking the WS rule 162. Interfering with another's mission without his consent or orders from headquarters. Do you accept this?'
It was useless lying to WS. If he refuses, Jason will be put on trial, and a full investigation will take place to find out the truth. Even before that, Vanessa would submit the necessary evidence.
'Yes, I accept.'
'Do you any valid reason for doing so?'
'No.'
'Then Agent 483947, you have been charged guilty for violating WS rule 162. According to it, you have been given penalty 353. Please return to your home base in 36 hours to receive your punishment.'
��Jason, what is your punishment?'
Alex asked. Jason smiled.
It is nothing much. I only have to do a bit of running and might be slightly canned.'
He lied. Penalty 353 is a five-day punishment. You have to run 100km barefooted in five days wearing a 30 kg suit. You also receive 20 lashes each day. WS does not tolerate rule breakers.
'I must get going now. I do not want to be late. Goodbye, Alex.'
'Jason, wait.'
Jason did not look back.
He said his farewell and departed to meet his fate. Vanessa confiscated Alex's graphene swords, and he was put under strict observation. Hikaru's memory change was postponed until the mission ended.
