Voices that sounded far away and heated reverberated through her skull, a high pitched beeping punctuating her pain with violent jaws of sound. She carefully controlled her heart and breathing as her mind came to the surface and she could hear what was being said.

"Can't just leave her in here without some kind of restraints! She is a rogue and dangerous! If she is part of the group that attacked Vincent in the forest and she is the Valkyrie! She is a killer and she has to be put down!" The voice was Male, though it was not a deep voice and the voice almost sounded small. Ada wondered if this Male was shouting to compensate for his size.

"They were trying to kill her! She was clearly not on their side and with the wounds she sustained, I dont think she would have made it if Vincent hadn't brought her back!" This voice was female, and had a far more commanding tone to it. It commanded respect, though not from fear. It was nice to hear real respect as the Male fell silent.

"If she is that wolf, it will be dealt with later. For now she needs rest and she has to recover. Her broken rib punctured a lung and the wolf who bit her shoulder had been determined to rip her in half." Ada was sure she could hear the uncomfortable shift from the Male before feet stormed out of the room. There was a moment of silence.

"He is gone." She said in a softer tone, Ada slowly opening her eyes. She blinked led a couple of times to clear the blurred of sleep from them and looked about the room. She was in a hospital room and covered in heavy warm blankets. When her dark eyes looked to the female in the room she huffed out a sigh.

"What's your name?" She asked as Ada shifted a little, using just her right arm to push herself up a little.

"Adaline." She croaked out. Her voice sounded rough and hoars. She female handed her a glass of water and Ada drank great fully. She handed the glass back and let her eyes fall on the window across from her.

"How bad is it?" She asked, the female pausing for a moment. Ada knew where she was. She could smell many wolves and so it meant she was in their territory. She was in their hospital being taken care of by their doctors and nurses. She was not restrained, but with this many wolves around, she didn't need to be.

"They want to execute you." The woman replied honestly and Ada closed her eyes as she let out a sigh. Of course they did. Go figure that she would find her mate and be brought into a pack only to be killed.

"What happened out there?" She seemed hesitant to ask, but Ada replied, explaining everything that happened. She told the woman of how they had planned the attack and carried it out, about how she saved the wolf that was to be her mate and was injured. She told the woman of her deception and Kyle's attack at the river. She described the days that followed as best she could before ending with the final attack and her blacking out.

The woman was silent for a long time, leaving Ada with her own thoughts, and the impending decision concerning her life. She could feel a tightness in her chest, a warm tightness that almost made her want to cry.

"You saved that wolf because he was your mate?" She asked, to which Ada nodded her head.

"Do you k ow who he was?" She asked, Ada shaking her head. She didn't know who he was. She k ew what he looked like and that he was her mate, that was all.

"My name is Emily." The woman said after a long silence, a small kind smile coming to her face. "I was born here in this pack. Where are you from?" She asked, Ada hearing the beeping pick up slightly. Emily didn't miss it either and looked at the machine before bringing her blue eyes back to Ada's face.

"Northern Asia." She replied, Enily unable to control the look of surprise on her face.

"Nothern Adia. Wow. That is quite a long distance to travel. What brings you to Oregon?" She asked, Ada finding that it was harder to control her heart. She was not sure if it was because she could feel that her mate was close, or thinking about her home and her pack.

"I was brought here by rogues." She replied, her right hand tightly gripping the blanket over her.

"By.... Are you a rogue?" She asked her. Ada nodded slowly.

"I was taken from the arms of my dead mother when I was six by the rogues who had killed her and traded from one group to another until I ended up here." Ada felt the sting of tears in her eyes but closed them tightly and forced them away. Enily was silent but Ada could feel her eyes in her.

"That... That is awful. I'm so sorry Ada.." She reached out to Ada, but she pulled away and Emily pulled her hand back. Ada opened her eyes again and looked at the window. She could s well a large collection of wolves outside and she slowed her heart, her eyes narrowing as she glared at the door.

Emily looked at the door and stood up, closing it behind her after she exited. Ada considered attempting an escape, but the pain in her side, cheat and shoulder had her dashing the idea as soon as it popped up. She could not get out of this bed without being in excruciating pain.

She closed her eyes and slipped off to sleep again. It was restless and she must have been thrashing in her sleep because when she awoke again, she was covered in blood and sweat. Enily was replacing the bandages on her shoulder and there was a worried look on her face as she noticed that Ada was awake.

"Do you always thrash so hard in your sleep?" She asked, Ada slowly sucking in a deep breath. She was going to die anyway so she might as well confess her sins while she had time.

"Yea. The nightmares make it hard to get a good restful sleep. The faces of the people I have been forced to kill haunt me when I close my eyes. Now he haunts my dreams too." She replied to Emily, who burried her horrified expression under one of concern.

"What do you mean forced?" She asked Ada, taking the new bandages in place.

"When you are taken by the rogues, they train you how to fight and beat their teachings into you. After two years, they put you in a pit with another kid they took and make the two of you fight to the death. The survivor gets food and medical attention and sent off to another rogue group, often trading us for other kids or needed supplies." Ada closed her eyes again and leaned her head back. She could smell the tears in the air from Emily.

"How many children?" She sounded on the edge of tears and rage at the same time. Ada opened her eyes again and looked at Emily. Their eyes met and Ada could see the rage building within the older woman.

"A couple dozen a year from all over the world. Thousands since I was taken. I've only killed two other kids. The rest have been part shifting age. Members or packs or other rogues." Ada replied as she broke eye contact and slowly turned her head away.

"Do you know many people you have killed?" Emily was closer to rage, but Ada had no idea who the rage was directed at. Slowly Ada closed her eyes, her right hand gripping the blanket so tightly in her hand her knuckles were white.

"Fifty. I've taken fifty lives." She replied, able to see the faces even with her eyes open.

Emily stood suddenly and walked out the door. Ada took this time again to sleep, once more plagued by the faces of the dead, and the face of the man she had thought she would never meet.

She had no idea how long she was asleep for this time, but she knew she had been sedated from the way her mind was slow. She was alone in the room and her pain was less. She guessed it was a couple of days because her throat was dry and she was starving. She Shifted on the bed and grabbed the glass of water that was left beside her and she drank it greedily. After that she shifted in the bed and she took in a deep breath slowly. It didn't hurt as much to move so she turned and placed her bare feet in the floor.

The floor tiles were cold and smooth, which helped take her mind off the pain. It was less, but it still hurt. She was distracted by trying to keep herself steady that she didn't notice the door open. She did notice the sudden swell in her chest and it took her breath away, causing her to grab the bed for support. She could feel another person in the room and turned toward the door. She expected to see Emily, but instead she saw him.

He stood there wide eyed, with his dark brown hair a mess and dark circles under his eyes. His skin was sun kissed and his angular features reminded her of the natives from this country. Her breath was caught in her throat as they stared at one another, neither moving or saying a word.

After what felt like hours, his eyes tore from her hospital gown covered form and moved to her eyes. Once more he stared, but she turned her head away.

"Are you going to say something or just stare like you've never seen a naked woman before?" She asked, sitting in the edge of the bed. That seemed to snap him out of his daze and his sock was replaced with a hard look.

"Did you kill James?" He demanded, his harsh tone sending a wave of bitterness through her. When she didn't respond right away, he repeated the question at a higher volume. Ada gave a slow shake of her head.

"I've never killed anyone named James." She replied to him. She heard a sigh escape him, as if he had been holding his breath. She didn't look his way but she felt him move closer.

"Are you in pain?" He questioned, Ada scoffing in responce.

"Now you want to pretend to care about how I feel?" She shot back. He stiffened where he stood.

"I do care. You are my-" He started, but she quickly cut him off.

"Dont. Dont... Dont say it." She closed her eyes slowly, lifting her right hand and placing it on her left shoulder gently.

"You are." He growled. Ada opened her eyes again and looked over at him.

"I'm a rogue. I have killed pack wolves. I have killed your packs wolves. Is that the kind of mate you want?" She snapped at him, a hard look in her face and an empty hollow look in her eyes. He didn't respond and Ada nodded.

"That's what I thought." She shifted and brought her legs back up onto the bed and she pulled the blanket over herself. When he did not move or talk, she looked at him again.

"It would be better for both of us if you just left. I'll be dead soon, do getting attached would only hurt you more." She said, laying her head back. She heard him growl darkly and he took a step toward her.

"You are okay with death? You would allow them to just kill you?" He snapped. Ada leveled an empty stare on him and she could see pain in his eyes.

"I'm too weak and injured to fight

They are not going to let me go and since they wont let me go I can never go home. I have nothing to live for and no more energy to keep fighting it." She said solemnly, it he was clearly displeased with her answer and he growled again.

"You have me to live for. Your mate!" He took a confident step toward her but stopped again.

"You wont even come close to me. You fear and hate me as much as you want to be close to me. I can smell it in you." She droned, then rested her head back and closed her eyes.

She could tell that he was conflicted, but was surprised when he walked over to stand beside her in the hospital bed. She opened her eyes again and looked up at him exhausted. There was a turmoil inside him that his eyes could not hide. She could almost feel his desire to touch her as her own desire to touch him grew to drown out her pain.

Her eyes slid closed slowly as she looked up at him, sleep overtaking her once more. With no food and still so much damage to heal her body wanted her to just sleep. She was not sure if it was just her delirious sleep state, but she thought she could feel a hand on her face.
