Chapter 8: Healer

Eve

We arrive at the pack house all too soon, I can still feel a blush fading from my cheeks as we emerge from the tall trees and shrubs.

Axel brushes some stray hair out of my eyes, his fingers linger on my jaw making some of my blush return.

We walk through a luscious greed yard I hadn't noticed when Axel carried me from the house, I notice some rodbuds trees and marvel at the the variety of red petals that gently glide to the ground. It feels like a fairy tale, something out of a story book. Evey single one of my dreams wrapped into one. Someone to love, my sister back within reach, a so happened family that would love to meet me, according to Ella at least.

Axel tugs my hand gently and I smile up at him, following him through the huge double doors.

We walk back through the kitchen into the living room. "What do you want to do now, Angel?" Axel asks, sitting me on the velvet couch next to him.

"What is there to do?" I ask, I barely remember having a choice in what I wanted to do, even growing up I always followed Ella when she wanted to play something. Never making my own decisions.

Axel leans back casually, throwing his arm behind me as he reclines. "We could explore the rest if the house? Or find a game? Or go out into town, introduce you to some of the pack members." The last one perked my interest.

"Can we go out?" I ask, arranging myself so I was sitting on my knees facing him.

"Of course," he says, laughing under his breath. "Let's find Ella, see if she can lend you some clothes to wear out." I jump from the couch, running ahead of him up the stairs, trying to smell out Ella as I went.

I catch her floral scent when I reach the top, I follow it down the dark wood hall until I reach a room with flowers decorating the door. Excited I rap my knuckles on the door quickly and swing it open, just as I remember doing as a child.

Only difference was, when I was little Ella never had a half naked Max straddling her.

I squeak, embarrassed beyond belief at catching them, and slam the door closed. I hear a loud thud from in the room but I don't move to investigate.

Still blushing I walk from the door and slide down the cold wall, waiting for Ella or Max to come see what I wanted.. if they do anyway.

I look over as Axel comes up the stairs, a smirk plastered on his lips. "What's with all the noise?" He asks, coming to a stop beside me.

"Nothing," I say quickly, my blush still lingering.

"Oh really?" His smirk widens as he reaches for the knob on Ella's door.

"Wait!" I jump up, blocking him.

"Thought you said it was nothing?"

I fumble with words for a second, "Well I-" I'm cut off when the door swings open, causing me to fall back with it. "Woah!"

I crash to the ground, hissing in pain as I land awkwardly on my wings, I hear a few small snaps and tears spring to my eyes. "Owwe!"

Axel huredly crouches by my side, helping me sit up. "What's wrong?" He asks, worry evident on his face, "Are you okay?"

I bite back another hiss as I sit up, feeling the primary bones of my wings shift out of place. "I- I'm fine," I bite my lip as u fight the tears that threaten to pool over, I've felt worse, this was nothing.

"Oh shit! Sorry," Max kneels next to me, examining my back. He pulls my shirt up gently, releasing my wings.

I gasp in pain as they stretch out, pulling at the broken fragments.

I can tell they look worse then they are, the ruffled feathers along with the crooked shape makes it twice worse by appearance.

"Are they broken..?" Max asks, he sounds worried.

"No dip Sherlock," Axel growls. "We need to get her to the pack doctor."

He moves to pick me up but the word doctor made the hairs on my neck stand in edge, when I was with John he called the experimentalist doctors, the meaning of the word forever locked into my heart as pain.

"No!" I scream, scooting away from him, "No doctors, please." My voice cracks and turns pleading as I back into the wall. "No.." I feel tears escape my barrier and glide down my cheeks, dripping off my trembling chin as I pull my knees to my chest, willing away the memories that threaten to consume me.

I feel arms wrap around me, I startle and begin to fight them off when Ella's familiar scent calms me, "No doctors," I say again.

She brushes her fingers through my hair, "No doctors," she assures me.

After a few minutes of sitting there I regain my composure. "Sorry.." I murmur, feeling bad for have ruining the happy mood of the day.

"It's fine Bunny," Ella says, rubbing circles into my arm calmingly, "You didn't do anything wrong."

I look up to see Axel and Max had left, "Where's.." I don't finish my question but she understands.

"They went to get some icecream, thinks it'll help fix everything," she chuckles to herself, "Guys are kinda dumb, break something and buy something to fix it."

"What'd they break?" I ask, scanning the room for evidence. The queen sized bed was intact, along with the various shelves and blue gray wallpaper.

Ella gives me a weird look, "Your wings?" She asks, uncertainly.

I purse my lips, they had only cracked earlier, that was nothing. "They aren't broken?" I flex them to show, my shirt was still pulled up and Ella looks back to where I have extended them halfway.

Shock replaced her earlier expression, "They were all jumbled a second ago..?" Her eyebrows pull together in confusion.

"Only cracked, a few bones were shifted but they healed pretty fast so that's good, means they won't even be sore in a few minutes," I nod to myself as I stretch them further, testing for any remaining aching and finding none. "Not broken."

"That's amazing.." Ella says, reaching out to touch one, "Do you mind?" She looks at my face and I shake my head, I was already used to them by now.

Ella moves behind me, eyeing the scars that cover my skin for a second with poorly hidden horror before refocusing on my wings. She brushes her fingers along the white one, feeling the soft feathers. She looks to the black one, "Why are they different colors?" She asks, looking shocked by her own question, "I'm sorry I didn't-" I cut her off.

"It's fine, really." I say," I don't really know why? John said it was my soul's colors. Ying and yang. The perfect difference between good and evil. The story always changes, never once the same yet all the exact same words.." I trail off, not wanting to finish the words that have been following me around for years.

The stories always change

Never once the same

Yet all the same words

The story of sorrow

Of the lost and the gone

Follow one and be found

Follow the next and be saved

Yet follow the light you'll be seen

Follow the dark and you'll be free

See the shadows in your dreams

Sleep in shadow

Sleep in fear

Pray for love

Pray for fear

Pray for the darkness to not come near.

I purse my lips at the song, I can't remember who sang it to me, a soft musical voice in my dearest dreams when I was upset it afraid would sing for me. Sometimes normal songs like Hush Little Baby or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star but sometimes it was that one, The Stories as I've taken to calling it.

"Your soul couldn't only be two colors, your such a vibrant angel that Ying and Yang should be jealous of your balance." Ella chuckles to herself, "Purple is more like it, that'd be a sight to be seen, you were obsessed with purple when you were little, purple this purple that," we both laugh at that. What can I say? Purple is pretty.

Ella helps me fold my wings back into my oversized shirt. "So what did you come up here for anyway?"

"Oh ya! I need some cloths 'cause Axel was gonna take me into town to meet some of the pack."

"Okay, let's find what could fit you." Ella pulls me up and takes me to a large closet. Inside are a variety of colorful cloths next to a smaller portion of neutral colored cloths.

"Let's get started shall we?"

Hey y'all! Sorry I couldn't find a better way to end the chapter, it was already 1,456 words or somin' so I had to hurry and finish it. Thanks so much for y'all's support on Webnovel! Already 93 collections! I never thought I'd get this far with a small idea.

Anyway I'll try to update more often, maybe even start working on an up-spree when if reach 100.

In a few chapters I plan to do a Q+A kinda thing. I'm working on a character explanation kinda thing for the next update so that's fun

Anyway thanks for y'all's support! Till next time.
