Chapter 5: More Discoveries

When I saw this text box, to say I was surprised was an understatement. I was completely dumbfounded. If I could identify this, I could figure out why my sword is so strong, so I immediately looked at my sword, which only made me even more surprised:

I think I figured out my question earlier on whether the eyeball was weak or not. Based on the chances, I'm pretty sure that I got lucky and landed a critical hit on one of its weak spots.

I broke out into a cold sweat realizing just how close I was to being killed by that eye.

but at that moment I had another thought.

'If I have an inventory, and an identification skill, I might also have something similar to a settings option.'

"Settings."

... ... ...

Nothing happened.

"well it was worth a try."

After my failed attempt at calling up a system settings screen, I decided it was best that I go back to the house for the night. As I was walking back, I had another idea pop up randomly.

'What if I can use 'identification' on Jacob?'

And I did just that. It worked, surprisingly enough, and showed me a single line of text:

[Jacob 250/250]

Now, when I saw this I decided to see if I could see my own health.

[Talon 35/100

Status: poisoned]

Wait...

I was poisoned earlier, wasn't I?

I also noticed that my health went down to 34.

And I immediately noticed that my entire body was hurting. The adrenaline rush of slaughtering zombies must have finally worn off.

"Ow... Why did I have to punch that eyeball... And why did it have to explode... Owwww."

And with that, I began to rush back to my house, in hopes of getting some advice on curing my poison affliction.

I burst in the room and said one thing:

"How do I get un-poisoned?"

"What?"

"I kind of poisoned myself after blowing up some weird giant eyeball..."

"I'm not going to ask, but the only solution we have is to wait out the effects of the poison."

"Well I'm kind of getting pretty low on health at the moment, so is there anything that can heal me right now. I am not enjoying the constant pain that is happening right now."

"You are lucky that I found a lesser health potion. Here, take this and drink it."

Jacob pulls out a bottle filled with a red liquid.

"Honestly, its do or die right now, so screw it!"

I proceeded to chug the entire bottle in one go. I was pleasantly surprised that it was strawberry flavored as well. Since I am no linger in danger of dying for the moment, I checked my health once again.

[Talon 61/100

Status: Poisoned 0:11]

Okay... i was nearly dead apparently, since I assume that the potion heals 50 health. 11/100 is definitely in the range of you will die, so I am glad that Jacob had a potion on him.

"Thanks for that, I really needed that potion since I was apparently at 11 health before that. Also, why did my status only show the duration of my poisoning now instead of before?"

"You're welcome. And it only showed it now because you did not know it had a duration earlier, so you assume that you were permanently poisoned."

"That is oddly logical. So status screens are based around what you know of things."

"Pretty much."

After figuring that out, I decided to relax and wait out the duration of the poisoning. I still wasn't enjoyable since I was getting hit with pain once every second, but it was tolerable for the moment.

I may have relaxed a little too well, since the moment the poison wore off I passed out. Let's see if passing out is 3 for 3 with surprises.

As I woke up, I got up and looked around for a second. I may or may not have ignored the zombie arm that Jacob was holding in his hand.

And I may or may not have ignored the fact that he was using it like a sword.

I only ignored it for a second, since I did my new favorite thing, identification.

[Murderous Zombie Arm

(+8% damage

The name was slightly disconcerting, but the thing was stronger than my own sword. I really do not understand the rules of this world, I mean, look at how gravity is, it literally only works for sand and living things. An arm being stronger than a sword is a little less weird in comparison.

After I analyzed the sword, Jacob noticed me staring and approached me.

"You must have been exhausted last night, since you passed out the moment you got over the poison."

"well, yeah. Fighting a horde of zombies is not very easy to do, even if they were weak."

"last night was a unique occurrence, since the zombies are usually stronger than that. Maybe they were weakened by something in the forest."

"Wait, those were zombies that were weakened? What are they like at full strength?"

"A full strength zombie would be just as fast, but way harder to cut through. It would probably take you abut 3-4 hits with your sword since you tend to go for weak spots, which usually means an assured critical hit."

"I guess I got lucky, huh?"

"Yes, yes you did."

"Off of that topic, do you know how I can get stronger?"

"Of course I do, since if there is anything I know best, its how to survive. You must collect materials to craft better tools and armor with."

"And where do I get these materials?"

"You must go into the depths of the world. But I warn you, do not go too deep, lest you end up in the underworld."

"You must be joking."

"You are free to think what you want."

"I think you are lying."

"I still warn you to not go too deep too soon, for there are some things beyond your strength at the moment."

"I will try my best to follow your advice. I guess I'm going mining today."

As I am walking out, I hear Jacob say one more thing.

"Do not forget to stock up on torches, the shadows may hide something useful from you."

Hearing those words, I postpone my caving trip with the intention of a slimy massacre.

{Time skip- 3 hours}

After massacring slimes and collecting a hoard of gel, I craft a 'metric ton' of torches in preparation.

Let the delve begin.

I am going to regret giving Talon an identifying ability, since I am going to have to list all the stats and effects as well.

Well, it gives the story more depth, so I guess I will accept my chosen fate.
