Chapter 7: Caving: Part 2

I was intrigued by the area that looked both fitting and out of place in this cave, so I approached it cautiously, and looked into the hole only to see another skeleton.

It was the same as the last one, except for a few differences: it was holding a spear and wearing gladiator armor.

"Why is there an undead dressed as a hoplite in the middle of this marble cave?"

As if to taunt me, my identification ability gives me some 'important' info.

[Hoplite: 70/70]

As I saw this text, all I could say in response is:

"In what way does that explain anything related to what I asked?"

But nobody responded to my question except the hoplite, who decided to send their spear hurtling towards me. I dodged it of course, but I was surprised nonetheless.

At that moment, I decided my 'best' course of action was to toss a bomb at it, which worked a little too well. Just picture bone shrapnel going everywhere, while only a crater obscured with dust remains where the hoplite originally was.

While I waited for the dust to clear from the crater, I noticed something giving off a faint red glow in the corner of the marble cavern.

I decided to investigate it after seeing the hoplite dead, which I was assured of based off of the pile of spears and chestplate laying in the crater.

Now to investigate that glowing red thing, which turned out to be a 4 foot tall crystal heart. Now, I would have been able to think my options through if I had waited, but since life likes to play pranks on me, it decided to trip me as I approached it.

At this point I just went with it, which ended up with me falling face-first into the crystal. I was expecting an impact, but all I got was the sound of shattering glass and an extremely bright flash of red.

Now I would be confused, but the cave floor decided it was the best time for it to introduce itself to my face, and boy did that hurt.

I wonder how much it actually hurt, though?

[Talon 111/120]

I guess I figured out what the heart was used for, though I wish I did not have to get so well acquainted with the floor as the price for this knowledge and health.

I shall speak of this event to no one, no matter what.

After the event-that-shall-not-be-named, I decided to look around again. As I was looking, I noticed a 'normal' looking slab of marble, which was both carved and had a handle.

So an ornately carved marble door, that obviously leads somewhere. I chose the most obvious choice, and opened it.

It was pretty much the same as the wood room, but it had no machine and the loom was replaced with a wooden barrel. It only had a shark statue and a chest in the room.

As I stepped into the room, I stepped on a pressure plate. It somehow summoned a shark and immediately killed it with a poisonous dart, which has me torn between amused and scared.

I had two thoughts at the moment:

1.) That dart could have killed me

2.) WHERE'D THAT SHARK COME FROM?!

'Note to self: Statues summon monsters.'

With that thought in mind, I decided to step on the pressure plate again. Unsurprisingly, another shark was both brought and taken from this world in a matter of seconds. At that moment I decided that I was amused rather than scared. I also had another thought after seeing the second shark:

'If the shark statues spawn sharks, what about the other statues I got.'

Thinking that, I decided to replace the shark statue with a different statue instead.

And so I broke the shark statue, and placed the corruptor statue in its place.

I stepped on the pressure plate immediately after, which ended up with me having to take a step back due to the size of the thing that was spawned.

Now at that moment I had realized that I had made a mistake in spawning it, since it was staring right at me with all 6 of its grotesque eyes, which is very intimidating when it is a 10 foot tall monster floating in the middle of the room.

The monster seemed to be preparing to attack, so I did what I thought was the right thing to do: I opened the chest and took everything without looking at it first, and proceeded to run out of that room as fast as I could.

It was probably the best idea I have had so far, since the monster completely demolished the wall between us and continued flying at me. I could only think one thing when I saw that happen:

'I am so screwed right now.'

And with the wall exploding as a cue, I ran even faster than before. As I was running, I noticed that I was leaving a trail of dust behind me.

'Boy, these boots really do make me run faster.'

I could hear the monster getting into 'fights' with the walls between us, and I could already hear which side was winning.

I ran for about 2 more minutes until I tripped on a bundle of something, and I looked at it in shock when I saw what it was. Seeing what it was gave me an idea of how to survive this ordeal.

'This idea is both stupid and suicidal, but it just might work!'

And so I set up my trap and waited for the monster to approach.

It took the thing about 30 seconds to catch up to me (What a dedicated hunter), and it was not prepared for the reckoning coming its way.

As it approached the spot of my trap, I grabbed the handle of the trigger for my trap in anticipation.

It was a very tense few seconds, which consisted of me hiding in the corner of the cavern waiting for the monster to approach the spot.

And reach the spot it did.

I pulled the handle of the trigger, and set off the bundle of dynamite right as the monster was passing over it. I was not prepared to be launched across the cave from the force of the blast alone, so I decided to check how hurt I am before enjoying the scenery passing by me.

[Talon 25/120]

'Yikes, I really did have a stupidly suicidal plan, huh?'

And at that moment I remembered that I was currently a projectile.

As I was getting launched down a tunnel, I decided to look below me. I did not expect to see a pool of lava as I got launched past it, and I definitely did not see an entire cave filled with spiders.

I refuse to accept that there are caves full of 7 foot long spiders underground, and I will never acknowledge that they ever existed.

I also did not see a flaming bat fly by me as I landed. Another thing I refuse to accept as even slightly real.

After seeing the bat, I began to slide across the ground. Not the most fun, but at least I didn't die.

[Talon 13/120]

'Bit of a rough landing, but beggars can't be choosers. Also, note to self: statues are scary.'

Well with that painful pseudo-flight experience done with, let us check the spoils of my 'battle' (read as terrified escape plan).

I found a mirror, a stick of dynamite, and another shine potion.

[Magic Mirror

Use: Gaze into the mirror to return home]

Well that would have been useful earlier. I guess that means I am heading home, since I think I have had enough of this cave for today.

And so I gazed into the mirror.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

I will probably add some things that are not actually in the game, like the corruptor statue.

I will only add them if they could be used to explain an event though. (Probably)
