Chapter 12: Unexpected Visit
Next day in the morning, when Liu Xiaolan woke up the man she brought back was still asleep.
Seeing that he looked as if he was just sleeping, Liu Xiaolan decided to ignore him for now and prepare some breakfast for today.
Unfortunately for her, she didn't have time to go to the city yesterday, so she's still left with bland porridge as food. At least she can mix it with some mushrooms, once cooked they should add some taste to it.
While Liu Xiaolan was happily humming under her nose and stirring the food inside the pot, a shadow creeped up behind her.
When nobody was looking, Mu Yuchen quietly awakened and moved behind Liu Xiaolan. Smelling the food, a slight smile appeared on his face.
Soon, a slight pitiful voice could be heard. "My lady, I'm hungry, when can I eat…?"
Liu Xiaolan almost had the scare of her life, falling down to the floor. She looked around and saw Mu Yuchen looking at her in a pitiful way, as if he was an abandoned puppy.
Seeing him look this way, she almost fell down again. "Who in the world is your lady? Don't talk nonsense…"
Mu Yuchen only worse some underpants with his bare chest sticking out, with a beautiful waist line and long legs. Overall his body seemed fit.
The night before, she just felt that he was a little handsome. Now however, when he's a little more clean and it's not as dark, Liu Xiaolan couldn't help but feel that he reminded her of Yang Yang, a popular male actor that she used to like in her previous life.
Mu Yuchen looked towards her with hunger, but at the same time he pitfuly lowered his head and looked afraid to ask for food again, as if she was about to kick him out if he opened his mouth once again...
But how was it that Liu Xiaolan somehow felt that this handsome man looked a little wrong? Maybe not wrong, but a little foolish?
Liu Xiaolan softened a little and gave him a bowl of porridge. Although the bowl looks old and barely holds itself, it's still useful.
When Liu Xiaolan went to the city last time, all she could remember were utensils used for cooking, but when it comes to some things to eat from? She forgot.
Good thing that when she was picking up and moving the straw last time, she found a small bowl hidden under it. When she thought about it, it turned out to be the only thing the original Liu Xiaolan had, so she kept it hidden for most of the time.
As Mu Yuchen was finishing eating, his mouth showing a satisfied smile, a loud shout could be heard outside their house.
"Liu Xiaolan, you evil girl, come out here right now!"
Liu Xiaolan looked at Mu Yuchen and thought that it was the worst possible moment to have them come by. If they found her inside her house with a half naked man without any way to explain, it would be just awful.
"You, come here quickly. You're not allowed to come out, understand?" She said, as she pushed Mu Yuchen towards a corner and covered him with straw.
Outside the house, Grandma Liu together with her daughter-in-law, Shen Meijing, were kicking up a fuss. "Where's that dead girl, still not coming out? Just wait and see how I deal with her…"
When Liu Xiaolan went outside her house, Grandma Liu was about to barge into her house.
"You're finally out, you stupid girl. How can you let your elders wait for you?" Shen Meijing scowled towards her.
"Elders? Why don't I see any nearby?"
Grandma Liu exploded. She was just about to kick Liu Xiaolan once again, but Shen Meijing stopped her. "You evil girl, how can you say this to your own grandmother? Quickly get on your knees and ask for forgiveness.."
Liu Xiaolan almost laughed, a smirk on her face. "Grandmother? Who was it that kicked me out of the Liu family?"
"That doesn't change the fact that you've got her blood inside you! Even if you don't like it, you still need to give her filial piety according to the law!"
Grandma Liu added, "Exactly! Now quickly come out with the money you've got, your grandmother is poor and needs it for the family…"
"Money? What money?" Liu Xiaolan just pretend to be dumb. After all, saying that the original Liu Xiaolan was poor was an understatement. Now they come here and want some money? Are they joking with her?
"Evil girl, don't pretend here! Many people saw you coming back from the city with new things, you surely have some money saved…"
Shen Meijing added to the fire. "Exactly, I've heard that you sold these things from the mountain. Without us giving you this house, how could you ever get them? You've learned how to pick them thanks to our family…"
If Liu Xiaolan didn't know the truth and looked at it from the perspective of a bystander, she would most likely believe in Shen Meijing. Her acting skills are really something else, she can turn black into white without blinking her eyes.
Liu Xiaolan scoffed. "I've got no money at all. When you guys kicked me out of the Liu family, you didn't even let me take away my old clothes. Now that I finally managed to buy some clothes and blankets, you come over?"
Grandma Liu was about to shout at her again, but Liu Xiaolan quickly continued, "If you say that I've learned how to pick things on the mountain thanks to the Liu family, why don't you just go and pick them as well? Unless you lied?"
"Evil girl, how can you say that to your grandmother. Look how I clean you up…" Just as Grandma Liu was about to move and try to hit Liu Xiaolan again, a loud shout could be heard.
"Madam Liu, what are you doing right now? Madam Shen, you as well, why are you even here?"
