Chapter 99: Chapter 93 - Reminders of the past before lunch

Jack smiles as he looks over the information. "It seems to be en-route to where Amber wants to meet, how convenient. Everything is laid out that simply?"

"Yes, Lord. Can we please begin? We have detected some movements."

"Sure. Albert, will I meet you before the auction or for lunch?"

"Lord, I have some things to handle prior to the auction. I shall meet you at the auction, you have my thanks."

Jack exits the carriage using 'bunny dash', he follows the bunny assassin several dashes until they're clear from any presence. Jack takes out the paper and looks at it again, Apricot Town. It's important to him to uncover information about this place so this seems like a good place to start.

"Ygnis? What kind of name is that?"

"Lord, It's related to one of the ancient gods. I can tell you the tale. He was....

"No, thanks. Not the time."

Jack dashes away with the bunny assassin following him, they dash several times with Jack looking around each time and spotting several interesting things every so often. They dash a couple more times and meet out the front of a store not too far away from the one they're meant to go to. Jack looks around and can see several of the bunny assassins. They've all sort of blended in. 'So far so good.' He stares at each of them as they look at him with an eager expression.

Jack scratches his neck, "Um, well let's get started..."

"Great Lord, you will have a short window so please hurry. They have other visitors right now too, so please watch out for them."

Jack nods to this, then fixes up his clothing. The disguise is in place still so he cannot be easily recognised. He looks like a typical player with his clothing that is matched for style and battle. The system has handed out several types of clothing for players, so that's the style they have adopted. The general residents have their own style, the rich residents also have their own style, different from the general populace. Players are in their own league, that's why their fashion sells.

He walks out from their hiding spot and onto the street. His swagger betrays his status as he brandishes a polished sword that looks pretty but is worthless in actual battle.

"This sword shall serve me well as a quest reward to hang in my player house."

Jack mutters as he walks by the entrance of the store. A man standing outside the store stops Jack with a grab.

"Mr, you said that you're a player? Can I interest you in some land? This stuff will sell fast so you have to come inside."

The young man has slick hair and a sleazy smile. Jack wonders how these people are related to such a powerful item as he responds to him.

"Well, you tell me how much I'll have to pay..."

"Well Mr, why don't you come inside and we'll talk a bit more. This place isn't a good place to talk numbers."

Jack walks in following him. He has a confident appearance, but inwardly he's nervous beyond belief. The salesman walks inside and talks to several other people; they take peeks at Jack's sword and jewellery while speaking. Jack is happy to flash these pieces of luxury and, after some time of being shown the plots of land, a large man comes out.

Jack smiles and holds a hand out. "We greet like this where I'm from."

"Of course" the tall man bows down and takes Jack's hand. Jack smiles at these gestures, he spreads out his spiritual sense causing a few people to frown but the big man keeps smiling. His sense can detect something familiar, but he dismisses that as unimportant at the moment.

"Good job, so what are you offering?" Jack smiles as he catches a glimpse of shadows in the corner.

"Well we have this land here, it's offering partial hunting land with tier 3 beasts. Players need to hunt things and this land is great, you can sell it to other players later." the man points towards a piece of land in a partial valley.

Jack points to a piece of land on the other side by a hill.

"That land... Well that land hasn't really been surveyed yet. I could give you it, but I don't know how much it'd be. I could be giving you a great deal or a bad deal. How will we know? I could risk my position here"

"That's not my concern. Give me a price as I'm a busy man and your guy outside said you could help me."

"Fine... 2 million."

"Sure" Jack flicks the storage ring to the storekeeper. 2 million is nothing when he needs billions to pay back the white flower church.

The big guy grabs it, he looks inside it and can see the amount in there. It's 2 million and some extra, he goes to the back and does some paperwork.

Jack smiles as he waits for the man to come back, he looks at the piece of land that he bought. It's bullshit that he has to but it'll mean a lot to someone, he will take this place down eventually but it seems like there's a city heart around there. It can't be that simple...

The big guy comes back after some time, Jack grabs the paper out of his hands and walks towards the door, the store people thank him loudly, yet don't lead him out in contrast to their prior treatment

'Wow' Xueli says.

Jack walks out the door and looks around, he then walks down a few stores and meets up with the bunny assassins.

"Mission accomplished, sir. Even better than planned."

"What do you mean?"

They pull out a leather pouch filled with several vials, mostly red liquid but some purple and blue. Jack cannot identify them with the system so he waits for them to explain, Xueli suddenly appears, she slides down his arm and bites down on one of the tubes. She cannot pierce through them so she swallows the tube whole, no one stops her in time allowing her to finish in ease.

'Well, that thing didn't want to break. I had to swallow it whole. Wow I can't believe that was here amongst that filth.'

"What?"

'Umm, Golden Horned Dragon maybe' Xueli speaks and yawns.

"Let me guess, you wanna sleep?" Jack allows her to crawl back into the tattoo. He isn't sure what that blood did but it doesn't matter, anything is a benefit when it's for the little snake.

The bunny assassin's don't speak until after this display, "Lord, that was the item that made this a great haul. That was an ancient seal, in place for millions of years with the contents not degrading. It was estimated to be at least Ancient Divine Tier..."

"Well, good thing Xueli is our Guardian Spirit Beast..."

"Right, Lord. We acquired the auction item. Tier 6, Saint Beast White Tiger." Jack nods at them for understanding, they understand the implied situation behind it. If something happens to Xueli, then the village won't have much future regardless of what happens.

"Great, I'll hold onto it until we head back."

Jack takes the leather pouch from the group, they take one last look through it before he puts it away. They have accomplished their goal here, Jack was the distraction while they were going in the back room. It was quite simple and nearly all of these stores are trying to sell things to players. There's nothing else for them to do so the bunny assassins return to their posts while Jack attempts to find a carriage.

The trip isn't far but it's a matter of appearance, he cannot show up to somewhere in an expensive part of the city on foot.

He cannot find a carriage after some time until...

"Jack?" a voice says nearby.

Jack turns around and spots a girl, she looks different in her clothing that includes a dress and far more frills than usual.

"Amber, I was on my way to meet you and got side-tracked. How was your night?"

"Good" she smiles at Jack and flutters her eyes, he responds by squinting at her.

"So shall we head off to lunch?"

"Of course, my new Lord. Such a handsome and young player... that's such unique player fashion too."

"He's a player? Oh, Amber why didn't you speak up earlier" a young female voice comes from behind Amber.

Jack looks at her, she has plain brown hair and brown eyes. Her clothing is one filled with lots of ribbons, which seem to signify something. There is a family crest somewhere there too. There's a few other people besides her wearing similar colours but different insignias.

"I'm a player, Nice to meet you all. Can I ask about the colours on your uniforms?"

"Oh these? They're just to represent the chains our families have to the history here. It's ridiculous but it's one of the few ways for the other families to chide it over us."

"Uhh... kay. So where are we going?"

"There is a restaurant that overlooks the auction plaza, we'll head over there. Plus, I'm sure we'll see something interesting." Amber smiles at Jack and links arms with him.

Jack doesn't stop her but wishes he did and that she wouldn't make exaggerated footsteps while they walked linked arms as the others talk behind them.

"Amber seems to have settled in nicely?!"

"He does seem more reliable than the other players."

"He's reliable? We'll see... He is handsome though."

"Handsome? No, but he is rich, I bet. I know I'll introduce him to my family's line of food. He'll share it with all his player friends."

...

They break down into a discussion about various things that typically include him and his status as a player. It doesn't take long for them to reach their destination. Jack peeks out the corner of his eye and can spot someone with a familiar appearance but he cannot place where it comes. Amber whispers, "Shadow Sect."

"Oh."

Jack mutters that, but he's stuck searching his mind. Xueli has decided to be unhelpful and sleep so she's no help and the other voice... seems to have mostly shut up. Jack's mind is stuck wandering about some things in the past as he feels a pinch on his side.

"Why are you staring?" Amber whispers to him.

"No reason, so where are we going?"

Jack gestures out at the broad plaza. There's people everywhere, as they have walked the distance before a large multistory building that looks very old yet sturdy. The rustic feeling of logs give it the appearance of being here for eons. There's a sprawling marketplace ahead of it. A lively plaza where small players are cutting deals with everyone, there appears to be odd appearances in the crowd.

A small eating district is nearby, a single restaurant is the only option though, and it has massive queues out the door. It has two levels that are filled to the brim, with many people on the line giving up and opting to eat elsewhere, after waiting for several hours.

"Well, we're going there, we'll be seated right away."

"Alright, but I'm not really hungry after everything so far today."

Jack looks around at all the stalls, he feels like there might be something in here to find, yet Amber is keeping her arm linked around his.

"Well you don't have to eat, it's important for you to "eat" in here. People under the level of Baron usually can't even get a seat within an hour. We're going to get a seat right away."

"Alright, plus this shouldn't take too long." Jack straightens up his back and looks towards the restaurant before looking towards the followers, "We're going to eat now, are you joining us?"

The people following freeze up, Jack blinks, waiting for a response.

"Wow! players are so easygoing, he invited us so easily."

"Are we going to take up such a simple invite?"

"He's a player and he's a city heart lord? Wait is he? Of course.... wait... we should still invite him."

"Isn't it our reservation?"

....

They discuss stuff between themselves basically ignoring him, Jack coughs.

"Oh uh, of course we're coming. Let's.... go" the brown-haired girl raises her hand in the air.

The followers also raise their hand too, Jack does it too copying them while Amber rolls her eyes at this display yet smiles.

"Sure let's go."

Jack takes the lead with Amber, they're following in, causing a slight commotion among the crowd. His spiritual sense is listening into random conversations and learning the random people's perception of the people following him. And it seems like he might have been misjudged by them. They're being called terms such as Sir and young Lord. The crowd parts away as they approach the restaurant entrance. Jack walks up to the lead server at the door.

"Can we help you?" the server asks as he looks at Jack.

Amber steps forward, "Yes, you can help us. We have a reservation."
