Chapter 2: Chapter 1 - Where It All Began

"Be a good girl, and don't make trouble for Ms.Mariachi all right, Rosie?" Claire replied

"Ok, Mommy," Rose smiled as she replied, looking at her mother's figure walk away.

Rose hated this daycare. There were no people here for her to hang out with, and she was always all alone. What is even worse is that Ms.Mariachi's boyfriend comes to visit her, and they kiss like there's no tomorrow. It really is disgusting. Why do people even kiss?

Rose went to her usual corner and got out the same things she gets out every day. The half-broken teddy bear, the weird slide with beads, and a book. Her parents already taught her how to read. Most people were impressed since she was only four. Her mom just answers to their gawking, saying she was a fast learner.

DING!

Rose looked at the door expecting to see Mrs.Marachi's boyfriend again, but this time a woman and little boy come in. The kid was crying and held onto his mother. Rose felt terrible for the kid. She crawled closer to see what was going on.

"Hi! Welcome to Pink Stones Daycare! How may I help you?" Mrs. Mariachi asked in her sweet, natural voice.

"Hi, I would like to sign my son up. I will pick him at 5 pm." The woman replied.

Rose moved to a little closer to see her face. There were black marks under her eyes, and she kept on yawning.

"No, Mommy, I don't want to go! I want to stay with you! I promise I'll always be a good boy!" the kid cried.

"Alex, you know how tired I am. I still have to go to work, and I don't want to be late. Can you please stay here? Just for today?"

The boy stopped crying and sniffed a little.

"Ok, Mommy. I will stay here..." he stated, hanging onto his mother's legs, while the mother was busy filling out paperwork. The boy, Alex, observed the daycare with his tear-filled eyes until his eyes landed on Rose. When Rose made eye contact with him, Alex looked away shyly. Rose wondered why the boy was so shy. Rose was always outgoing, so she didn't understand his behavior. Rose was so lost in her own thoughts, she didn't notice the woman walking away and Alex coming towards her.

"Would you like to be my friend?" Alex asked Rose.

Rose was immediately ripped away from her thoughts as she looked at Alex.

This was her first friend request. She didn't how to react. Even though Rose was outgoing, she never really had kids her age in her town. She was kept inside as well because her parents were extremely protective of her.

Alex looked at Rose's facial expression and feared he did something wrong. Alex was always a timid boy. He easily got nervous in front of new people, making it hard for him to have friends as well. Alex never spoke first, he always waited until the other person started the conversation. This was his habit until yesterday night...

"What should we do Angela? If Alex doesn't make friends now, he'll never be able to make friends. I don't want Alex to end up like his cousin, Ace. He never speaks and acts like a loner. How will he keep the family name alive? Our whole family hates him, and my parents lost respect for his family. Plus, we can't always keep Alex with us. I have to work soon and we'll never be able to live... "Alex's dad muttered to his wife after tucking away Alex.

"Calm down Bradley. I have selected a daycare for Alex, and I'm going to take him there tomorrow. I'll find a way to convince him." his wife replied, trying to ease her husband. "Anyway, I have to go and finish up some work, so you can go to bed."

"Alright Angela, good night," Bradley said, pecking his wife on her lips before retreating to their bedroom.

Little did they know, Alex was intently listening to the conversation. Alex didn't want to end up like his cousin, and most of all he didn't want his grandparents to hate his parents as well. For their sake, he HAD to make friends tomorrow. But, he didn't know how hard it was going to be until the next morning, when he completely lost control over his emotions and cried, not wanting to be separated from his parents.

Rose came back to the real world and looked at Alex. Seeing his facial expression, she thought that he was regretting his decision to ask her to be his friend. No way was she letting this opportunity go away. This was to her chance to her first friend.

"Ok, I want to be your friend," Rose replied.

Hearing her voice, Alex looked at her smiling. His mission was accomplished. He followed Rose to the corner, while she was explaining everything to him.

That day, neither of them knew that a new friendship was formed. They were just glad to have a friend.
