Chapter 12: Monster
Zi Xiang woke up the skies were bland in coloration a still fog obscuring the landscape. He hadn't passed away in his sleep, living to see another day Zi Xiang seemed uninterested he closed his eyes and just started to rest. again he wasn't really tired he just didn't feel like getting up. Zi Xiang started to think about school and his future, what would he do after highschool where would he go to, was he interested enough in writing a letter of interest to every good school around just to see if he would get accepted or would he plan out something particular. What would he major in, thinking about all sorts of things he just rested falling half asleep.
Noticing some howling Zi Xiang got up he had already just slept all the way until noon and was ironically tired of resting. Zi Xiang saw the silhouettes of wolves in the distant fog, Zi Xiang stayed low to the ground and waited for them to move away, watching them run towards his direction he knew, it would probably be better to stay still and hope that they wouldn't notice them rather than try and run.
The wolves glided through the grass approaching closer they stopped sniffing the air. Looking around they quickly locked directly onto where Zi Xiang was, Giving a glance at each other the wolves growled at each other before they started sprinting even faster than before, seemingly more interesting in beating its competitors to its prey rather than organizing themselves to catch Zi Xiang. Watching the wolves struggle against themselves to reach Zi Xiang like fish waiting for food. Opening their gaping maws and pushing each other away Zi Xiang did what his better judgment told him not to, he ran. He ran as fast as he possibly could.
His legs were beyond sore and every step felt like a sharp stabbing pain, he was incredibly panicked he could barely think so he ran as fast as he could directly away from the wolves it didn't matter what direction it was as long as it was opposite of the wolves.
The largest wolf in the pack feeling roused from the prey in front of it running away its instincts kicked in its yellowish black fur rose and its massive body stretched its sprint developed into a charge as its swept past the distance between it and Zi Xiang.
Twisting its body it pounced on Zi Xiang grabbing his shoulder it bit down slamming Zi Xiang down to the ground. Quickly Zi Xiang was surrounded by even more wolves each of them starving they started to bite into Zi Xiang they each seemed avariciously hungry as they began to start pulling at Zi Xiang and ripping off bits of fabric and flesh from Zi Xiang. The wolves started fighting for an opportunity to eat amongst each other since only a few could eat at once.
Zi Xiang was violently screaming and flailing around as the wolves feasted upon him.
AAAUUURGH Zi Xiang was giving a blood curling scream. Being fought over by wolves as they were eating him was incredibly horrific the pain was intense and Zi Ziang was completely panicked and frenzied all he could think about was getting away.
In the distance, a strange creature appeared slowly approaching it was obscured in fog unnoticed by anything around. It approached Zi Xiang and the wolves.
Then over the screams, growls, and ripping a cracking noise could be heard. Suddenly with a smooth whistle, a claw pierced through a wolf. It was brought up into the air. Its body was held by a massive, mantid like the creature it was huge likely around ten meters in height.
It had two pairs of massive claws one mantid like the other more similar to that of a water bug. It was whitish-grey in coloration with a smooth exoskeleton covering its body. It brought the wolf up to its mouth where it mangled the wolf with its mandibles and claws. A loud squelching of flesh and organs could be heard with the occasional light snapping of bones.
The other wolves dropped their attention on Zi Xiang, they quickly started to arrange themselves around the creature surrounding it, they began attacking it viciously, with a thud the mantid dropped the body of the wolf on the ground and took up a defensive stance against the wolves. Some of the wolves got behind it and bit down on its back legs though it didn't seem to be particularly effective. They violently throttled around their heads shaking around the mantids legs immobilizing them.
Though despite the wolves' vicious attacks the mantid didn't seem phased it slowly raised its claws holding it in the raised position it stood around calmly as the wolves grabbed at its legs. Then the claw descended accurately piercing through a wolf's head it raised it up the mantid seemed more interested in eating rather than fighting and finishing with its meal it dropped the dismembered body.
Although Zi Xiang could've taken the opportunity to escape he was frozen he just blankly stared up at the mantid.
