Chapter 2: 2

Her alluring fiery red hair and mesmerizing emerald eyes are unlike anything anyone has seen before. Her petite, yet curvy frame often leave many envious. At 24 years old, standing at five foot eight, she could have easily been a model. She didn't take her own looks too serious. She knew that it would only get her so far. She relied on her talents and brains. She worked hard and applied herself one hundred percent. She knew it was a man's world and needed a fine education, skills, wit and determination. Once she finished her Masters in Antiquities of Medieval History and Artifacts, she was leaving this life behind. She had her eye on the prize. She knew she would relocate to the U.K to work at the British Museum. She wanted nothing more than to head the Department of Antiquities there. She struggled with the guilt of leaving her poor mother behind. However, Mary-Alice Maxwell was a lost cause. She offered her mother many times to come live with her. Mary-Alice would never leave her husband. No matter how much he hurt her. She knew she would never survive on her own. She had married Jackson at an early age, and simply he was all she knew. He made her suffer in many ways, but she was devoted to him, life or death, and sadly, he would be the death of her.

After finishing work, she quickly packed up. There was a speaker coming to town on the history of medieval artifacts that she wanted to meet. She headed across town to the event. She quickly found her seat, turned her attention to the presentation. Once he came on stage, she was captivated. He was a very agreeable man. His voice rang in her ears, very dreamy, soft spoken. Full of authority.

Grayson Alexander stood at six foot three, muscular build, jet black hair and piercing emerald green eyes with flecks of gold. His features were sharp, he resembled a Grecian statue. His voice, although quiet could easily command a room. Many have said that his voice was like angels sighing when he spoke. Grayson was no stranger to women throwing themselves on to him. He often ignored their advances. He had no time in his life for silly, loose women.

He worked very hard to get where he was today. He was one of the most renowned speakers on Medieval History. He dedicated his life to the cause. He would often accompany on digs for artifacts. His life was his job. He knew most looked down on the fact that he didn't have a family. Being 28, he was also the youngest in his field. He felt that family /marriage/kids was something he was just not ready for yet. Although, some day possibly. his partner would have to be of a certain kind. His work came first, then everything else. Women wanted to be the center of attention, they couldn't handle him being gone for days, weeks or even months for his work. Nothing was more important than preserving history.

Carmen couldn't get his eyes out of her mind. As he spoke, she slipped away into thought about them somewhere digging up artifacts, making history. She focused on his lips. How perfect they were. She fantasized about kissing him. Upon this realization she blushed. She had never been with any one before. She had always dedicated herself to her studies. Love was never on her mind. And now this admirable man stood before her making her blush like a school girl with a crush. She quickly refocused her attention to the lecture.

"After the presentation today, we will have a signup sheet for those that would like to personally accompany me on a trip for a week. We will travel, take tours, learn more about history and have one on one lessons on how to identify artifacts at a glance. The fee is $250. Please see Marilyn at the back."

She quickly rose to her feet to sign up. She had money saved away for a rainy day. She couldn't let this opportunity slip by. She just had to notify work that this was a once in a life time opportunity and Mr. Graves would certainly accommodate her schedule. She knew she had to put her crush aside, nothing would ever come of it, this was about learning.

She reached the signup sheet, jotted her name down, wrote a check for the fee. Grayson watched her from afar. He was captivated by her beauty. He knew he would be in trouble. No woman had ever caught his attention like this before. They would be leaving in one week. She realized she didn't even know where they were headed, but she knew she wanted to go. She phoned work at notified Mr. Graves of the situation. He obliged all too well.
