Chapter 3: A New Member and the Fourth Dot

It was a strange scene seeing someones face constantly change and with the black shards surrounding them, it was even stranger to look at.

With a sigh, Akrolon bent down and picked up a black shard. Examining it he noticed it looked similar to obsidian but without the weight to it, it crumbled easily but strangely the dust left behind disappeared like it was made from magic.

It felt misplaced, dead even, what confused Akrolon because how could a stone feel like it was once a living thing?

These black shards littered the floor, it was a mess, a mess what he would make Ras clean up.

Getting back up he walked over to Ras and crouched down to look at him closer, his face changed quicker and his arm seemed different.

'I need to wake him up soon, I have to open the store in an hour' Akrolon wanted to make sure Ras was safe and happy so he decided the best way to wake him up.

Standing back up Akrolon did a little stretching.

"WAKEY WAKEY" Was accompanied by a kick to the stomach, unsurprisingly, this woke up Ras.

Ras looked around and calmed down when he saw where he was, 'I never thought I would see a strangers backroom as comforting' He then got angry when seeing Akrolon, yeah the kick wasn't that hard but did he have to hit him?

His face had gone back to normal but there was still a problem. "So... did you have a nice dream?" Ras replied with a fist, which Akrolon moved back from while tutting "That's rude, I just woke you up for breakfast and you try attacking me"

Ras realised he did spend all his luck on the word boss. He started looking around and noticed all the black shards on the floor, it looked like someone was chipping at a block of obsidian.

Thinking back to his dream, 'who was the man with red eyes? Why did he feel familiar'

'What was that blackness about? What caused so much pain like that?'

'I guess I'm not human but why? I'm still me, right?'

Snapping his fingers, Akrolon wore a tired expression "Your face is changing again, can't you control that? It's disturbing so you control it." To be fair it wasn't the weirdest Akrolon had seen but it still caused him to worry, he couldn't work if was constantly turning around to that.

Ras, on the other hand, was having a small panic attack. He could feel the constant shifting of his features with his right hand, 'What's happening to me?' Panic seeped into his body, flooding his senses making the changes more erratic.

The features were of three faces. The orcs, Ras's face and Akrolon's face. It cycled through them like Ras couldn't decide who he was.

'Is this me now? A faceless monster?'

Cold splashed against Ras, whose face hadn't calmed down yet, not because it had dawned on him how serious the matter was but because Akrolon threw a cup of water on his head.

A wet changing face looked up at Akrolon 'That's not a good look'

"Take a deep breath and calm down, you will scare away potential customers with a face like that, well faces" Ras had to admit he was right, he had to calm down but how could he? He didn't know what was happening or why.

'Breath in, breath out' Slowly Ras managed to be more collected, his face slowly stopped changing until he had a featureless face.

"That's a start at least, I'm not too fond of that blank face though. You're still Ras right?"

Akrolon was right, just because he wasn't human doesn't mean he wasn't himself, he was still Ras.

He kept repeating in his mind 'I am Ras, I'm not anyone else but me' Slowly his face changed, the face produced a clay-like substance. Weatherbeaten cheeks and lips slowly formed out of the substance, a bump slowly surfaced and made a chin, eyebrow hair grew and shaped itself, all of the substance poured out of two holes what were slowly deepening, a white liquid filled these holes from bottom to top yet it didn't spill out.

Black surrounded by red finished the inside the white liquid forming his eyes, brown hair sprouted from his head growing to his shoulders.

A burning sensation appeared on his right wrist then faded away, Ras decided to check it later because he now felt normal again, causing a sigh of relief to escape his lips. Getting his head together he looked around for Akrolon, he found him staring at back at him with those sapphire eyes "Well shit, you're not too bad when you ain't covered in dirt" Akrolon started grinning again.

Akrolon walked up to a table with a bundle of clothes on it, after a few minutes he pulled out some clean clothes.

He started getting changed into a white shirt and some new black pants said "I'm going out for supplies, you stay here and don't break anything" With a mischievous grin on his face, he patted Ras's head and walked to the door humming, he got his jacket off the door handle then left.

The wave of relief didn't last long thanks to his boss, thinking back, his life changed so much so quickly. He shouldn't be so comfortable in an unfamiliar place but it's better than the streets and he felt like he belonged here.

Getting up, Ras patted himself down and looked for something that resembles a bathroom. He found a quite clean bathroom compared to the Akrolon's storage room.

Turning the tap and looking in the mirror, Ras saw red eyes looking back at him. His own eyes match the man, what did that mean? Why did both of their faces change and shift?

Splashing his face with cold water, he fell into thought. There was always one legend what no one ever proved to be true.

Red-eyed creatures who could control their body to perfectly mimic others, that's all that was known about them because they were only in legends.

Vampires and Were-animals were proven to be real so they came from legend to reality but was another legend going to come true?

Or was it that they were just good at hiding?

Snapping out of these thoughts Ras turned off the tap and looked at the mirror again.

Focusing, he imagined his face not being his but Akrolon's. This didn't work, a pain stabbed at his brain for trying it, 'Was it too complex? Or is it because I'm still new at this?'

He looked again and his face was featureless, no emotion or traits of a human to be seen yet he could still see, breath and talk just fine. He tried changing again, this time back to his own face and watched the process carefully.

Skin moved out of two holes forming eye sockets, the mass of skin rippled around the face craving Ras's features back on it. It looked like worms were crawling under his skin, pushing and stretching his features into place yet there was no pain, no discomfort.

It felt like a dream, so disconnected from Ras's normal reality.

'So I'm a red-eyed creature, a legend, a monster in human skin, a Changeling'
