Chapter 2: Purchases

Next morning, Drake woke up and looked at his bank account. There were 154 200 credits.

'Good…With this much money, I should be able to purchase this thing!'

Every item in the app cost at least 15 000 credits. Since Drake wanted to test it, he had made sure to buy a cheap spell that suited him, though he had little expectations at first. However, he knew he was just a frog in the well thanks to the app he had.

It seems like sorcerers – those who made the app – were ranked from beginners to Grandmaster, with probably even higher realms. A sorcerer would be able to cast spells of his realm. The App was truly amazing. As soon as he paid for the spell, a drone delivered a spell book in his house, and by studying it for a week and practicing for a few days, he basically learnt the spell.

He had nothing to compare it to, but he knew that it was definitely not easy to learn a spell. The only reason he managed to learn one in a single week would be…because the spell book author was an amazing teacher. Casting a spell required tremendous mental efforts.

For instance, Drake needed to speak 12 words in a foreign and ancient language out loud picturing a spell matrix that looked like a hexagram in his mind. Only then would the spell be cast. Though it only takes a few seconds, the consumption of mana burdens as much as if he had worked on a math problem for hours.

As long as you practiced, the level of the spell would increase. By levelling up your spell, its destructiveness would be greatly enhanced according to the author of the book.

'The spell is already strong at level 1 beginner stage…If I become a grandmaster one day, then destroying a city with a thought might not be out of a reach…'

It was both frightening and enticing. To think that such powerhouses existed in reality!

Opening his holophone, he could see something similar to a status page. It was truly as if his life had turned into a game, a bloody one.

To him, this was a blessing.

Name: Drake Moonlight.

Rank: Beginner sorcerers

Age: 34 years, 4 months old.

Attributes:

Strength – 4.2 | Agility – 2.6 | Constitution – 4.0 | Magic Power – 8.2 | Mana Pool – 9.0

Spells:

- Beginner level:

• Blood Strengthening (Rank I): Increase strength by [Magic Power]. By hitting your target, a blood explosion deals additional damage to the target upon impact. If the target is bleeding, his constitution will be drained at a rate of 0.1 per second while healing host's injuries. (Cost: 1 Mana)

Strength represented your muscular power, your overall physique. Agility represented flexibility, nimbleness and eventually, your speed. Though without strength, you wouldn't be able to run fast, without agility, you wouldn't be able to control your strength. Hence, it was recommended to have balance in attributes.

Constitution represented your stamina, health, resistance to diseases, poison and…ageing. To Drake, someone who pursued immortality, constitution was one of the most important attributes.

Magic power represented the destructiveness of his mana pool. Mana existed in the environment, though before, he was oblivious to its existence.

In his childhood, he often felt like there was some sort of void in his heart, as if he didn't belong in this peaceful society. His body longed for magic, and this strange condition of his came along better senses.

Though it was not at a supernatural level, he could hear discussions from a dozen meters away, and if he focused, he could see an ant crawling on the ground a few meters away.

Though it was amazing in itself, it was utterly useless in his everyday life.

He didn't know a lot about this app. But he knew that the stats were based on the average human.

Humans would have about 2 to 3 points in each attribute on average. As a 34-years-old man who went to the gym for more than ten years, and practiced Muay Thai as a kid, it was no surprise that his physical attributes were above-average…except for his agility which probably decreased over the years as he eventually stopped running due to the overtime hours he had to complete for his boss Frederic.

It told a lot about his magical talent. 8 points of magic power and 9 points of mana…that was three to four times the amount he should have as an average human.

Clicking on the store menu, Drake used the search bar to look for something crucial to mages in novels.

[Beginner level – Cloud breathing technique I – Price: 100 000 credits

Practicing this breathing technique once a day will increase the user's magic power and expand his mana pool over time. This technique has been passed down through generations, and practicing it over a long period will increase the user's constitution as well.]

[Martial arts manual – Kukri Knife Beginner Guide – Price: 40 000 credits

A guide to use Kukri knives in combat. Though uncommon, using kukri knives as a sorcerer is very efficient against enemies. By mastering the techniques in this manual, you will become a Kukri Knife beginner, enough to hunt low-ranked spiritual beasts without wasting mana.]

And so, Drake began to train.
