Chapter 6: Lending A Ring To This Party Member!!
"Yuumi-san... How is it possible... Why?"
Yumi was in a bind, he forgot that the language of this world was different.
'Shit... To think that she has these symbols in her village... I couldn't have possibly known that...'
"Look, I promise I will tell you about it later...once we get to know each other better, okay? I promise on our... friendship."
Yunyun revealed a sweet smile and replied, "Sure! Friends!"
Yumi could tell that she was fantasizing in her imaginary world and decided to ignore her for now.
'I gained some time to think of an excuse.'
He looked around the hidden room and found the items the hero was talking about.
'A sword huh, at least I won't need to use my butterfly knife anymore, but it's not like owning a sword makes me a grandmaster in swordsmanship. Learning the way of sword will be difficult.'
He swung the sword around for a bit and struck a few poses.
'Man, holding a real sword feels so amazing. It's a bit heavy though.'
He ignored Yunyun's you-are-from-my-village face and opened up the pouch.
Inside, there were white coins, a ring and some kind of plate.
"Is that it? I expected more..."
"Yumi-san... Can I see what's inside?"
Yunyun asked with a curious look.
Yumi nodded and threw the contents of the bag on the ground.
Yunyun came closer and looked at the coins.
"These are Eris coins. But I can't tell you their value as I can't see whether they are made from copper or silver, but still... There are only four coins so there definitely won't be much profit."
"Hm... Eris coins? Is it the currency of this world?" Yumi muttered.
"Ehm... Yes, it's a currency of this capital and nearby cities... As Yumi-san is a traveler from a faraway country, you might not know about Eris currency, but they are named after the most popular goddess, Eris."
"Let me interrupt you real quick, there is a goddess with a name Aqua, right?"
Hearing that name, Yunyun's eyes turned hollow.
"Ehm... Are you... Okay?"
"I am... Completely fine! I just remembered something I shouldn't have... Yes...Something unpleasant. Aqua... is a goddess of water... The people who worship her, are called Axis Cult..."
"Hee... So she truly exists..."
"Yes...but her followers... Are all weird... I don't want to enter their town, ever again..."
Yunyun shivered as she remembered the number of scams she was a subject to. As she was a natural airhead, she couldn't protect herself against the scams and was almost signed up as an Axis follower. The Axis cult was truly terrifying.
Yumi could feel that she didn't wanna talk about it, so he changed the subject, "Oh... Okay... Back to Eris currency, you mentioned copper and silver, so are there any other types of coins in the Eris currency?"
Yunyun examined the coins and replied, "Yes. Other than copper and silver, there is also gold and mithril, but mithril coins are almost impossible to find as they are only given to you by the kingdo-- W-What?! There is no way!" Yunyun exclaimed.
"What is it?"
Yunyun took the coins and rushed outside, "I-I need to see it for myself! I-I will be right back!"
'What happened to her?'
Once she was outside, she finally saw which material it was.
"It's actually...mithril..." she exclaimed and returned to the cave.
The moment she returned, Yumi asked her,
"Hm? What was that about? Are you okay?"
He was really curious as she left without saying anything.
Yunyun walked towards Yumi and placed the four coins into his hand.
"Those are actually... Four mithril coins...
They are worth... Four million Eris in total... I've never seen so much money in my life..."
Yumi observed the four coins and didn't see anything special about them.
"Are they that amazing?"
Yunyun nodded and replied, "They are... Given to people or rather... Heroes, who have contributed something to the country... To think we will find them here...The fallen person had to be someone special."
"Hmm." Yumi placed two of the coins into his pocket and returned two coins to Yunyun.
"I will take two, and you will take two, how about it?"
Yunyun.exe has stopped working. She just looked at the coins in front of her in disbelief.
"Y-You cannot be serious, Yumi-san! T-This amount of money... Just keep it!"
Seeing her reluctance, his opinion about her improved and she earned a few good points in his book. 'It looks like she isn't greedy whatsoever. That's a good trait.'
Yumi stepped forward and insisted, "You should just take the rest... Without you, I wouldn't even be able to enter the cave. You were very helpful. Consider it my gift to you, friends usually give each other gifts, that's another tip. You can write it down as well."
"O-Okay then..." she stored the money away and wrote the tip down.
"What about this ring? Do you know what it does?" He put on the red ring but he didn't feel any difference. He played with it in his hands and threw it towards Yunyun who barely caught it.
"Y-Yumi-san... Please warn me the next time you do something like this... But this ring... Until we show it to a master appraisal, we won't know its effects. But it's...really beautiful."
Yumi smirked and replied.
"Hmm... That means it's useless then... It looks like a piece of some expensive jewelry, right? We will just sell it off and split the profit again."
Yunyun shook her head and said, "It's not wise to sell items like these, as it might be a magic item... Although they might be expensive, and you could get a lot of money from it, rings usually have special effects which could help you quite a lot. Also...please don't give me more gifts, I don't have anything to give you in return..." Yunyun spoke with a troubled face following which she returned the ring to him.
"I understand." He knew that the ring must have been special in some way, due to its unusual color, he just wanted to test Yunyun a bit more.
'She is not materialistic at all... Ah, if only girls in my old world were like this. This ring looks like the type of ring, every gold digger would want. It's really... Fascinating.'
He looked at the ground and noticed that there was one more thing. It was some kind of plate.
"What is this?" he picked it up and the moment he touched it, the plate activated. It shone brightly and Yumi could feel some kind of connection to the plate.
"Ah...That's a status plate. It shows you your progress in killing monsters, your skills, and your class. It's really helpful. Usually, you would get one of these once you register at the guild, but this makes it easier."
"But why is it all grayed out. I can't see anything. It's as if there was some kind of restriction."
"That's because you need to activate it in the guild. You can't get any experience for killing monsters, but the kill count will save and the moment you choose your class, you will gain XP for everything you helped with or killed by yourself. It's really good."
Yumi observed the plate and asked, "What kind of classes are there?"
"There is a lot of them. But the basic classes are mostly mages, crusaders, priests, thieves and adventurers. The guild personnel will be able to tell you more... I am not experienced in this kind of thing... Sorry."
"No, you've done enough. Anyway, how about you join my party?"
"Join your... Party?" Yunyun had a surprise written on her face. For the time she spent searching for Megumin, she tried to enter a party multiple times, yet they didn't allow her as no one felt like taking on a quest of searching for her friend for free, yet right now, she was invited by her first friend. It was obvious she would agree immediately.
"Yes! I will gladly join!"
Yumi grinned and replied, "Good."
"... Yudai-san... Please don't make that face... It creeps me out..."
"..."
As they stepped out of the cave, Yumi turned towards Yunyun and asked, "If it was a magical ring, which class do you think it would belong to?"
Yunyun thought for a while before she replied,
"Um...considering the red exterior which could quite possibly be the catalyst of the ring, I would say it would either be for a Mage or a Magic Warrior."
'So there is a Magic Warrior in this RPG world as well... Well that sounds interesting.' he walked up to Yunyun and placed the ring into her hand.
"Y-Your ring?! B-But it might help you in the future...I can't just accept it..."
"From what you said, the ring is for a mage. I am still not sure what class I want to be, and we don't know what this ring does, so for now, it's better if the ring is in your possession."
Yunyun seemed like she had something to say, but in the end, she just took the ring quietly. "T-Thank you..."
Yunyun's face turned serious
'I have received a special personal item from Yudai-san... I need to take care of it!!'
If this was his old world, he would never throw away such an amazing thing. But Yumi knew that if she were to keep that ring, she would be indebted to him and would be... Technically forced to stay in his party. Well... Since he was he her friend now, she wouldn't want to leave the party anyway but still... Giving her the ring was the best possible choice.
'While she looks like a clutz, from what I've seen, she should be quite strong. If I can get a strong and trustworthy person in my party, my life would be easier. Giving her the potential Mage item is the right choice to do and once we visit that Master Appraisal guy, we will know what other class is able to wear the ring. If it's for Mages only, then I will let Yunyun have it but if it's for class I find interest in, I will take it back... After all, I am just lending it to her.'
The moment she put the ring on her finger, a massive amount of mana spread across her body and the air around her started to tremble.
Even Yumi could tell that something amazing was happening, as the shockwave pushed him back a few meters.
"W-What is happening?!" She pulled out her status plate from behind of her breast and looked at it.
'I wonder what other things she has in there...No...control yourself!'
While a long term relationship was impossible for Yumi. He could still imagine a one night stand with someone. Where he wouldn't care about feelings, and just enjoyed himself. He wondered whether they have brothels in this world.
'That will be my first stop after I register as an adventurer and find a home for myself.'
"T-This is..." Yunyun almost died of shock. The things that the status showed her, scared her.
"What's wrong? What was that shockwave just now, it was the ring, right?"
Yunyun calmly took off the ring and wanted to return it to Yumi.
"What's wrong? Can you say something?"
Yumi didn't understand what was happening. He never saw such an expression on her face. It was a mix of disbelief and fear.
"This item...It's a holy relic... I looked at the status plate... and the name of this item is Red Diamond Ring. It...It tripled my base mana...This item is priceless...If you pawned it off...it might even reach a billion Eris!"
'A billion...I already have a fortune of two million Eris from those two coins...the question is... do I sell the ring, or do I keep it...'
Yumi was seriously thinking about the situation. While having money was great, he would have to deposit the money somewhere safe, so that it wouldn't be stolen. Also, many people might target his fortune. In his opinion, having that much money wasn't a good idea, unless he could defend himself. Right now, he is just a puny level zero and he can start leveling up once he gets a class.
'I think I should just let Yunyun keep the ring for now. I don't know why, but I have this feeling that she is trustworthy enough...So weird. I only know her for an hour, and I can already see her character. Maybe it's just from my experience with women? Who knows.'
'I can't believe I am doing this...Well...A new world means a new start. I should be optimistic, right?'
Yumi himself didn't understand it, maybe he wished to finally have someone close to talk with, maybe he was just grateful to her because she helped him and told him so much about this world, maybe he was just afraid of this world and needed someone who could guide him for a while and protect him.
"A-Are you sure...this is a relic...W-Why are you giving this to someone like me..."
Yumi saw that she was hesitating so he said, "Take it as a gift, but as a return, you will stay in my party for good, how about it?"
"Your...party? Can I? Really?"
Yunyun's scary impression of him was fading away. Not only was he kind and gave her tons of things, but he also agreed to be her friend, gave her tips about making friends and invited her into his party. He was definitely a good person.
"Of course, we are friends now, moreover, I am new in this wor-- country...So I would appreciate a guide who could show me around. What do you think?"
"S-Sure! I will show you around, don't worry... but to register as a party, we need to be at least four and it's going to be hard to find more members..."
"I already have someone in mind... Come with me."

On their way back, they encountered a Wild Boar. Yumi wanted to take it on but Yunyun told him to leave it to her, as Wild Boar was a level nine monster, which was too hard for the beginners to take on. She used intermediate magic called Lightning and insta-killed the boar.
She didn't notice it before, but not only did her mana pool expand after wearing the ring, but she also felt that her lightning was a lot stronger and superior, than it should have been. The ring somehow powered up her spells.
'I bet this ring is the cheat that hero guy received once he was transported into this world.' Yumi thought as he walked into the base.
'I don't think I want to be a magician, although magic intrigues me, I was more of a warrior in the games I used to play, so it's only natural for me to give mage loot to Yunyun since she is a part of my party now, and she is also really overpowered at the moment. Giving a strong player, strong loot is the best possible way I can survive in this world!'
He looked around and noticed that Aqua was sleeping on a nearby tree log.
'This woman...is the exact opposite of Yunyun...Not only is she lazy, but she is also a stuck up bitch. I doubt she even tried to look for food or people as I told her to...'
He placed the dead boar on the ground and walked up to her. He nudged her a few times, but she was still sleeping.
"Munya... Bring food...I am pretty..."
'Just how much of a heavy sleeper is she?!' Seeing the slight smile and a relaxed expression on her face, he nudged her a bit harder and she fell off of the tree log.
"Ouch! That hurt! What time is it?" Aqua looked around and saw Yumi's creepy face, "Awawawa please don't hurt me!" she looked towards the trees and shouted, "Hey geek! Come out and protect me! There is some kind of scary human in front of me!"
Rage boiled within Yumi, and he felt like hitting her but he didn't want to scare his potential team member away. So instead, he put his hands on her cheeks and pulled them as hard as he could.
"Wake up you stupid goddess! It's me, Yumi Yudai! How can you not even remember my face or my name!? I sent you to gather food, so why are you doing nothing?!"
"Ftop pugging ma cheeks!"
