Chapter 28: Just for today
As Ying Yue got ready to leave her apartment, her phone rang. It was an unknown number.
She pursed her lips and hesitated. Jade Circle wouldn't simply call her, right? The call was on its fifth ring when Ying Yue decided to answer it. "Hello."
A gruff voice permeated through the phone, surprising Ying Yue. "This is Xi Shenghui. I'm downstairs. I'm driving you to work this morning."
Xi Shenghui? She was just kidding last night when she suggested he drive her and now he was here. Did that man even know what a joke was? She grinned. "Mr. Xi, I'll be right down."
On the bright side, she didn't have to call for a car service to pick her up. She ended the call and rushed down.
The same sedan from last night was waiting for her at the lobby of her building. Xi Shenghui was inside, wearing a crisp black suit.
When she got in the car and buckled herself up, she leaned over at him and smiled brightly to mess with him. "Good morning!"
Xi Shenghui just gave her a brief glance and started the car. The man was radiating do-not-touch-me vibes that made Ying Yue smile even brighter. She sat back properly on her seat, amused.
"If I suggest you be my bodyguard, would you do that, too?" She joked.
He didn't blink and just focused on driving. "There are already men from the phoenix team assigned to tail you in shifts."
"Then why are you driving me to work?" She turned to him with a smile.
"Big Boss asked me to."
"Just for today?"
He nodded in reply. "Just for today."
The truth was, Big Boss didn't exactly tell him to pick up Ying Yue himself. He did, however, tell him to get the phoenix team to drive her to work and back. But that was the same thing, right? Besides, if anything happened to her on the road and he wasn't there, he'd only have himself to blame.
He didn't want to go down that way again.
She noticed his discomfort and decided to go easy on him. "Can I work on some things while we're heading there?"
"Go ahead."
Ying Yue pulled out her tablet and busied herself with preparing for the board meeting scheduled that morning. The drive to Fei International headquarters was quiet, and Xi Shenghui preferred it that way. He wasn't big on making conversations and he disliked small talk.
It took them under fifteen minutes to get to Fei International. And when Ying Yue got out of the car, Xi Shenghui reminded her again of the pen he handed to her last night. "That pen--"
"Don't play with it." Ying Yue gave him a smug look, echoing his words from last night.
He sighed. "I'm serious. If you activate that distress signal, I'll be dropping anything on my plate to get to you and the phoenix team will descend to your location in a matter of minutes."
He seemed really worried that she'd click the pen three times just for fun.
"Mr. Xi," she cocked her head at him and gave him a gentle smile, "don't worry; I promise you I won't even have to use that distress signal, okay?"
Xi Shenghui's lips thinned and he looked away.
Ying Yue closed the door to his car and left. That guy really had to loosen up a bit. He was too uptight. She was suddenly reminded of the way Fei Huangjin was at work. They certainly had the same seriousness to them.
However, as she recalled their phone call last night, she thought maybe not. Fei Huangjin… he had a different side to him, too.

When Fei Huangjin got in his office, he was in for the surprise of his life when he found Ying Yue sitting on his couch, looking like she just got off a magazine cover.
"You're early," he remarked, one eyebrow going up. He placed his suitcase on his seat before leaning on his desk and staring at her. She didn't tie her hair that day and was looking angelic in a white suit with matching trousers. There wasn't any other word to describe her but beautiful.
Ying Yue cleared her throat and smirked at the surprised look on his face. "I'm always early for important meetings."
Important meetings? Fei Huangjin held back a smile. Meeting him to agree on being his girlfriend was important to her, then? "Well then, so have you thought about it?"
"Thought about what?" She pretended to be dumbfounded. "I don't think we're on the same page, CEO Fei."
He frowned. "What did I tell you to call me?"
"We're in the office. I'm not going to call you Huangjin during working hours." She looked at him pointedly. "And in case you forgot, CEO Fei, we have a board meeting this morning in--" she made a show of checking her watch, "--5 minutes."
"…" Fei Huangjin's face faltered and Ying Yue suppressed a grin, picking up the documents she piled beside her and standing up to her full height.
"The documents you need are here. Shall we go?" She grinned.
He narrowed his eyes at her and he dropped back to his cold domineering self in the office. Ying Yue couldn't help but smile at that.
