Chapter 1: The Beginning

As the light of day was fading, all Karma could see was her moms terrified face. 'Was she scared for me? What about dad and her? They were the ones in true danger. How was she to be afraid for her daughter when her own mate was being painfully murdered beside her?!' Karma thought to herself, her black fur spread out on the ground. She knew and understood that true mates felt the pain their lovers felt. How could her mom be afraid for her? Karma was safe when her mom and dad were in a bloody, war zone. 'Why was my kingdom allowing this?!' She thought.

Her body ached from the memory of her parents death, but it was getting late and she knew she would be in a load of trouble if she wasn't back by nightfall. But then again, who would find her out here in her natural habitat? A human orphanage wasn't the place for a werewolf.

Young wolves weren't supposed to morph at her age, but for some reason she could. Her wolf form resembled her human form, long, black, curly hair. In her human form it went to her knees, in her wold form it did the same. Her eyes, however did not remain the same. She had almost black eyes in human form, but bright, gold eyes in wolf form. Her sharp teeth remained in both, and her longs legs did the same.

When she caught a glimpse of the first star of the night, she found herself wishing she would hurry up and reach the age of 18 so she could finally escape the living hell she was in. She changed back to human and put her clothes on. "Run away with me tomorrow." She heard a voice say causing her to jump.

"Who's there?" She asked. No one spoke "Show yourself, coward!" She shouted.

When no one spoke she started walking away. "Meet me here at midnight if you want my help escaping this living hell, love."

Her skin crawled, his voice was dark and sounded mischievous. "Not unless you show yourself, coward." She turned and headed for the orphanage.

When it was nightfall, she was confused as to why she still wasn't 'home'. She thought back to the way she had come, she had walked off the opposite direction from the orphanage. "Ugh!" She screamed.

"What is wrong, dear?" An elderly voice came from beside her.

"Ah, I am sorry ma'am. I didn't mean to show my frustration outside of my head. I am just tired and went the wrong way from 'home'." Karma told the little old lady.

"Oh dear, why don't you stay at my house for tonight and you can be on your way 'home' tomorrow." She mimicked the way Karma had said "home". "You don't truly wish to return to this 'home' you speak of, do you dear?"

She was caught of guard, "O-of course I do ma'am. Like I said, I am just tired and frustrated."

The elderly lady looked up at her, "Mhmm. And, my name is Lorella. I do not want to hear you referring to me as 'ma'am' if you wish to stay at my house." She said raising an eyebrow up at Karma.

"I am terribly sorry miss Lorella. Please, forgive me. But I must decline your offer. I need to be on me-"

"Nonsense, dear! You will get lost in that forest and will only stray farther from home." Lorella interrupted

'That is the entire point.' Karma thought to herself. "Really, I must be going. I will be in a load of trouble the later I am. Plus, I don't want to cause an inconvenience for you."

"Love, it is but one night, I am a lonely old woman. Your presence would be much delightful." The old woman smiled, causing her eyes to wrinkle at the edge.

"Alright, I will stay one night, and leave at first light."

As the old lady walked to her home, Karma followed. It would be nice to have a cozy bed tonight, instead of a dog bed like the one the orphanage provided. They treated her like she was a dog, even fed her kibble the first few night. Then the law got them in trouble and they were charged with a fine.

Karma had decided that she wouldn't go back to the orphanage tomorrow she would go the opposite direction for four days, then turn west into River Forest. It is said that River Forest has the most beautiful flowers, plentiful streams, and lots of wildlife. She hated the idea of killing animals, but she knew that that ran in her blood.
