Chapter 13: E=mc squared
I put my hand over my eyes to shield them from the shining sun above. Birds chirped happily in the garden. I turned and saw the five team members. They were huddled next to the koi pond whispering. I snuck up behind them and whispered.
"What are we talking about?"
The five of them jumped before holding their hearts. Quincy said.
"Lord Jesus and his mother Mary, you scared the living daylights out of me Astrid!"
I chuckled. "The living daylights?" I heard my grandmother use that word before in my previous life. I stopped laughing as I remembered how she died innocently as a passerby to a shooting fight. I clenched my fists and smiled as I looked at my team. I then plopped down on the floor next to their circle as I pulled out a paper from my kimono. Inside the paper we're written all of my formulas and plans. I put my pencil behind my ear as I unfurled the paper so that my group could see.
"Okay y'all this is my plan for the product which I plan to make. Regular wine as I have seen it is about 88% water and 12% ethanol. Inside of the molecular composition of the water there is usually glycerol, and some organic compounds, as well as isinglass. If we can increase the oxygen content we can manipulate both the taste and the longevity of the wine. In order for cops to not catch us we must make it a clear color. Similar to that of vodka. In this way the cops will think that it's regular water, especially with the low sulfate it will make a weaker smell and effect. It will taste like a sweet fruit juice, and it's effect will still make someone dizzy but addicted for more. This way we can both get people hooked on our product and hide the fact that we are selling alcohol in the Prohibition era. Are there any questions?"
I looked up to see confused faces on everyone's faces but Dr. McKinnon. Dr. McKinnon looked at me and asked.
"How old are you Astrid?"
"18 years old. Why do you ask?"
Dr. McKinnon's eyes widened as he looked over my plan.
"ARE YOU SERIOUS?"
I nodded. What was so shocking about that? Dr. McKinnon then pointed at the equation of E=mc squared.
"This plan is too good. Are you an apprentice of a chemist?"
Shit. I can't tell him that I'm a chemist major from the 21st century. I chuckled as I nervously rubbed the back of my head.
"My family lives next to a chemist so I regularly read his books."
"Which chemist is it? I know all of them here in New York City."
Sweat beaded my forehead as Dr. McKinnon suspiciously looked at me. How the fuck am I going to get out of this situation now?
