Chapter 31: Dawn

This porcelain creator before me stood hands on her hips straining her back to look bigger then the 5'4" she is. Her eyes flickering away ever so slightly as she waited for my answer. "As I said my name is Amber. I live not far from her in the Light Tribe Village. It's a long story where I came from but I have only been here for a week. What's your name?"

The girl lost her composer a little at the mention of a village darting her eyes around quickly before remembering she was trying to appear strong. "My name is Dawn and I don't like trespassers in my territory. I want you to leave now." She looked at our catches. "Also leave the meat."

Ranald snarled next to me as his thought crashed into my head. "How dare she! This is Light Tribe territory! That's our prey!" I grabbed the scruff of his neck fur before he could lung forward. Not that hearing his thoughts was not a good thing right now but I still didn't like finding myself more of a freak.

I gave Ranald a stern glare before turning back to Dawn. "The last I checked this is Light Tribe territory and you're the one who is trespassing." Dawn's eyes went large as I corrected her. " I may be new but even I know the whole Valley belongs to our Tribe ." I pointed at the thick mountain walls all around us that marked the boundary. It was large and isolated since the only way out was to climb over the mountains. "As for 'our' catches if you want some we are willing to share," Dawn seemed to realize a little at the word share."But you will need to come back with us to eat it." She looked like she would fall over. It almost was like I punched her in the gut.

Ranald gave me a questioning look, eyes searching. His thoughts are all over the place but they all asked "What could you want with her?"

I stroked his cheek before walking to the uncertain Dawn. "You are in a territory that is not your own and have no place to go from the look of it." I took her hand as she stared into my eyes. "We have an extra room and you're welcome to stay there until you choose what to do next." I held up my free hand as if taking an oath "There are no strings attached and my mates won't harm you." I waited as she stood in front of me in silent contemplation.

Finally, she nodded "I will go with you," Then she glared at Ranald "but he has to keep away from me." The hostility in her eyes shocked us both. What could she have against Ranald? He didn't do anything but growl at her when she tried to claim our dinner.

I shrugged it off before eyeing the darkening sky. It would take too long to walk back while carrying the prey. I looked to Ranald "I think you should shift so that you can grab onto my leg. It will take a lot less time if I carry you both and the prey back." I turned back to Dawn. "I rather not walk back in the dark."

"Okay," She let go of my hand and stepped back so I had room to change. Dawn watched eyes sparkling as my Dragon form grew before her. "It's true what they say about your kind. You look like you could truly destroy all in your path."

Her statement threw me for a loop. Why in the world would they say that and why would dragons want to? "I don't wish to destroy anything." I gave a chuckle "You make me sound like a monster."

Dawn shook her head no. "I don't mean to call you that. It's just back where I come from you guys are thought to be extinct. I never thought I would get to see a dragon. Your kind is known to be extremely powerful. The last one known was said to have been a beautiful woman that vanished." Her eyes got large again "Are you the vanished dragon."

I shook my head at the now very chatty Dawn. "She died a long time ago. I didn't know her but she was my mother." The sadness of never knowing the women seeped out of my voice."

Dawn reached forward tapping my leg gently "Sorry, I didn't mean to bring up something that would make you sad."

I nosed her shoulder to let her know it was okay as Ranald walked over. "Are you sure you can carry everything?"

I huffed at him "I truly doubt that a bear, boar, and rabbit will prevent me from getting us all home. Just make sure to hold on tight and don't let go of my leg."

"Yes Sir!" He saluted me while grabbing my leg with a silly grin. Dawn and I looked at each other and rolled our eyes. I grabbed our prey in my claws and took off for home.
