Chapter 141: Exploring
Jason exited the magic shop and looked around again. The sun had already started to set and the city lights had already turned on. In the tavern next to the magic shop Jason could hear lots of merry shouting and the clinking of bottles.
The nightlife of the city started to emerge, people who just got out of their jobs entered the streets intending to make the night merry, others just tiredly walked back to where they would stay. Merchants hawked their goods on the side of the streets still using magic lanterns to light up and illuminate their stalls.
It seems some people started to set up food stalls as Jason started to smell cooked fish in the air. Jason just walked down the streets soaking in everything from the bright lights to the bustling crowds that constantly moved around the city.
It reminded Jason of a night carnival, many of the people he passed were holding u a cooked fish skewer. Others had pastries that were in a triangle shape and were wrapped in leaves.
Every time Jason passed by a tavern he could hear, music coming out of it. Sometimes it was a rough hucking singing of drunk men and other times it was the sweet voice of a bard accompanied by a flute, banjo, or whatever instrument the bard had with him.
Different from what Jason had imagined the city to be with the news of increasing monsters the people were all merry.
It was much darker now, so people didn't pay as much attention to Jason as they couldn't see him. That was much better for Jason, he thrived on large crowds and cities where he could blend in and just do whatever he wanted without having to care about what people thought about him.
Jason had a good amount of money thanks to his monster grinder that he had just recently made during the intelligence trial, sadly he couldn't make it permanent but he had definitely gotten a lot of benefits during it.
He hadn't been able to use the skills that he had gotten from the zombies though. Jason passed by even more taverns and inns, all of the buildings glowed with light and noise. Jason walked by all of them enjoying the night atmosphere of the city and letting himself sink into his own thoughts.
Moments of silence were nice for Jason, he enjoyed those but being part of the background just letting himself fade into a dark place and observing life and how it moved was also pretty good. Boops said to him crossly
'yeah, your definitely a loner, its going to be interesting to see how you become a leader like this...'
Boops's words trailed off into thought, and Jason understood what Boops was talking about. He was going to be a leader, thanks to his system specialty that was it. Yet at the same time, he was fine with leading people, he just didn't enjoy it as much as most people. In fact, his ideal place to enjoy like was like at the riverside.
As he countied leisurely walking down the streets, the inns and taverns started to disappear now the only thing that Jason saw was houses, some of them had their lights on, but others were completely dark and gave off a scary vibe. More alleyways and trash came into his view. Jason started to see people, much different from the workers who wanted to enjoy their night, or the tiered but satisfied people coming back from their jobs.
People peeked out the alleyways, at each other, some stared at him and Boops pointed out that some were red dots.
Jason was tempted to peek into an alleyway to see what it was like but Boops cautioned against it
'just use the map dude, it can help you in that stuff'
So Jason did, he thought to himself
"open map"

A map only visible to Jason appeared in front of him. It was blue with the buildings and other obstacles highlighted with a black shadow, Boops mentioned to Jason that he could upgrade the map if he bought a subsystem.
Speaking of which, Jason remembered that should start spending his system points he had a large amount stored up. And he should start spending them.
The map had a total of 40 dots around Jason. Some were grey others were red. Jason had no idea why some of those dots were red. Nothing about his appearance would make them mad right, he was just wearing a rose knight recruits gear. Oh wait, ohh yeah.
Jason stopped and started to think.
If he was wearing a rose knight uniform, some people would think that he was rich, but at the same time, they would think he was strong.
Boops added
'yeah the slums in this city are especially bad, you usually would have gotten robbed at this point, it was probably the uniform and sword that kept you safe until now'
"ahh i see,"
Jason looked around, to see multiple people in the shadows staring at him. He looked back at the map which showed even more red dots approaching him. Boops quickly told Jason
'alright, you can deal with them but just make sure that its in a secluded place, if city guards see you then your kinda screwed'
"i have a better idea"
'really what?'
"its running"
And saying that Jason turned around and walked away. He wasn't going to create more enemies right now. Besides Perseus had many plans for the slums and he would screw them up if he started attacking the residents now.
Jason turned his head around to see a group of 10 muscular guys emerging from various alleyways. Some of them held up clubs others had swords and one held up a wooden plank in a threatening manner swinging it around like a helicopter blade.
Jason briefly looked at them allowing Boops to analyze them really quickly

Jason quickly looked at all of them, he could easily take them all on. But he really didn't want to get on the bad side of a gang that he and Perseus wanted to infiltrate. He was a bit disappointed by the lack of action though. He kinda wanted to use his skills on somebody, no wait, nevermind he started to think about the monsters that he had just fought and his desire to fight completely disappeared.
Jason walked back to where the city was bustling and moving around leaving the dark slums behind him. The rippers didn't chase after him thankfully, it was interesting how fast they moved, and how big of an effect the rose knight uniform had.
Jason reached the part of the city full of taverns and such without any problem. That was until Boops told Jason hurried
'dude, the twins want their food, and they want it now, Perseus is threatening to rob the nearest convenience store if you don't get them food'
Jason facepalmed and answered
"I'm getting out right now"
'hurry up, Perseus is currently rolling on the carpet like a kid'
Jason went to the nearest inn and quickly booked a room. He rushed up to the room and closed it shut, after that he checked everything he had and collapsed onto the bed.
"log out"
[logging out]
Jason's capsule let out a white mist and slowly opened. Jason emerged shirtless and tired. He stepped out of the capsule and walked out of his room. Perseus and Arjuna were already waiting for Jason in the kitchen, well Perseus was more or less in the living room sprawled on the floor. With his upper body on the kitchen floor and the lower body on the living room's floor.
Perseus noticed Jason walk in and he immediately jumped up and shouted
"food plz"
Jason went over to the cabinet that had a fresh supply of food. When he checked the refrigerator he saw beef and other delicious ingredients such as lobsters, shrimp, chicken. A container to the left had eggs and there were was to many vegetables to count.
Jason turned to Perseus in confusion.
"How the heck did we get this much food?"
Perseus answered
"the stuff the system gave us was bland and since we are crazy rich thanks to Boops buying stocks in the MH company me and Arjuna decided to get us an upgrade in terms of food"
Jason looked for Arjuna but couldn't see him. The map said that Arjuna was here though so he asked Perseus
"where is Arjuna"
Perseus pointed to the kitchen table, and when Jason squatted down to look for him he saw Arjuna sleeping underneath the table hugging a pillow and in a heavy sleep.
Perseus whispered to Jason
"just make some food he'll wake up instantly"
