Chapter 1: Chapter 1
I was walking home from the bus stop when all of a sudden something felt off, very off. It was then in that very moment I knew my nightmares were becoming reality. The bright day started becoming darker until soon everything was black.
Five days later I woke up in a strange gray room. I was sitting in a chair with my arms and legs frozen in place. Two professional looking people came into the room. "Do you know why you are here?" they asked in unison. I looked them up and down "No, should I?"
They both sighed and the woman said " You are part of a small group of people who have supernatural powers". I laughed at them "What kind of drugs are you people on?!" They both looked at each other, then the woman said "Samantha we're being serious, why else would we have your arms and legs frozen in place?" I had forgotten about that part, but now that I think about it, it could be possible. "So let me get this straight, I was walking home, minding my own business when everything slowly went black. Then I wake up here and you crazy people tell me I have powers and I'm just supposed to believe you?!" "Precisely." the woman said. "Do you have proof of any of this?" "As long as you promise not to be violent, we can show you our powers and help you with yours." "Alright fine, show me your 'powers'."
The man produced fire in his hands and the woman unfroze me so I could move. I stood up relieved that I could move again and asked "How is that possible?!" The man replied "Scientists are still trying to figure that out." The woman instructed me to make a bowl shape with my hands, close my eyes, and imagine a sphere of light in my hands. I thought that was ridiculous but I did as instructed. Soon enough I could feel warmth in my hands. I opened my eyes and there was a sphere of light in my hands. "Do my parents know about this?" I whispered. "I'm so sorry," the woman said "your parents died in a car crash just three days ago." I can't believe what I just heard. "Don't lie to me." I said "Samantha we're not lying to you, I'm so sorry" the man said. I looked him in the eyes and I believed him, I collapsed on the floor while heartbreaking sobs escaped from me.
They let me cry for a few minutes before the woman said "Samantha while you are here you will live in a dorm with three other people your age. You will be going to a special school where you will learn about your powers and how to control them. You will also finish your normal education at the same time." "I think it's about time we introduce ourselves." the man said. "Of course, I'm Mary Hopp, your guidance counselor." "And I'm Mike, Mary's older brother, I teach geometry and fire training at the school."
I contemplated this for a few seconds before saying "Am I allowed to bring anything from my home?" "I suppose we could make arrangements for that." Mary said. "Thank you, may I go to my dorm now?" Mike responded this time "I'm afraid you will have to go to schoo-" "Yes that's completely fine." Mary said cutting him off.
