Back in the lounge, Mrs. Shi and Shi Che were engaged in a conversation.
"Che, you and Xia have been married for three years. Isn't it time for you to consider starting a family?"
Since Shi Che and Ling Chuxia got married, Mrs. Shi had kept thinking about their offsprings. She had been longing to become a grandmother. However, three years had darted by and there were no signs of them conceiving. She was on tenterhooks.
She had been pressurizing Ling Chuxia either directly or indirectly. There had been no progress. Now that her son was back home, she could contain her impatience no longer. She came straight to the point.
Shi Che, as usual, was cool and calm. He raised his eyes to look at Mrs. Shi and responded in a steady tone, "Mother, we're still young. There's no hurry for kids. We're happy to be in our own world for another few years."
Mrs. Shi had no intention of believing him. She was vigilant with her son's latest movements, including the rumors about him on the daily tabloid news.
Mrs. Shi threw a grotesque stare at Shi Che, "Come on, what nonsense. Do you go back home every month? You've left Xia alone at home, where do you both have time to be in your own world?"
Shi Che remained composed, and answered plainly, "I've been quite busy at work lately."
"Busy, busy, busy. All the men know how to leverage this excuse. No matter how busy you are, can't you find time to go home to eat a meal and take a rest? Do you think we women are naive and easy to deceive?" Mrs. Shi was displeased and interrupted Shi Che.
Shi Che ticked his lips and started teasing, "No matter who I choose to deceive, I'll never dare to deceive you!"
Mrs. Shi had intended to glare at him, however, she was tickled and laughed, "Don't you treat me with the same tactics you've used on other women. I'm not falling for it."
Shi Che smiled and kept quiet.
Mrs. Shi stared at Shi Che's handsome face, her eyes slowly darkened and she paused. She became solemn and continued, "Shi Che, let's be honest. Are you dissatisfied with Xia?"
Shi Che was thrown off guard, he was stunned and pursed his thin lips.

The distance from the kitchen to the lounge was a two-minute walk away. Ling Chuxia had deliberately taken five minutes. A journey had to end at its destination. She turned a corner into the living room.
From a distance, she had heard both Shi Che and Mrs. Shi engaging in small talk. She was unable to eavesdrop on the conversation as she was far away from them. When she had moved closer, she was just in time to overhear Mrs. Shi's question.
"Shi Che, let's be honest. Are you dissatisfied with Xia?"
She froze and moved subconsciously aside. Her body was concealed by the classical vase which stood at half a person's height.
