Instead of getting sleepy, I was even more energized. Yanyu and Liqin were really good friends. It was sad how a friendship was broken because of one man. But it seemed that Yanyu saw Liqin as more than a friend.
I went out of my tent and the sun had not risen yet. But Liqin was there looking at the sky. I crept slowly behind him. Just as I was about to surprise him, he faced me.
"Do not even think about it," he said.
"You're no fun."
"Then go do it with someone else. Guoliang for example."
"That's a great idea. I bet he'd give me the best reaction. Hmmph!"
I turned around and pretended to walk away. I glanced behind me and Liqin had his eyes closed. I crept behind him again.
"I told you not to think about it." He opened his eyes.
"You could've just pretended. I would've appreciated that."
"Yanyu." It was Guoliang.
"Thank goodness you're awake, Guoliang." I walked towards him. "Do you know how hard it was to spend a few minutes with someone who doesn't know how to go with the flow?"
"If it is hard, then do it with him," Liqin said.
"Oh yes, I will. I bet his reactions will be very fun," I said as I dragged Guoliang away from Liqin.
We did not go very far but it was a good distance for Liqin not to hear us unless we shouted. I kicked a stone and Guoliang laughed.
"What?"
"You look so stressed," Guoliang said. "The sun has not even woken up."
"Of course I would be. Who wouldn't be stressed if the first thing you see in a beautiful day is someone like that?" I shouted.
Liqin glared at me and I glared back at him. "What? You want to fight?" I said.
Liqin snorted and turned away. "See, Guoliang? This is why I'm so stressed. It's because of that person there."
Guoliang chuckled and asked, "What happened before I went out?"
"I worked so hard to surprise him but he didn't with the flow. I even gave him another chance but he still blew it."
"What was the surprise?"
"I would creep behind him then I would shout ah. All he needed to do was give a reaction. Even pretending would be okay. But he couldn't even do that."
"If you really want to do it, then you can do it with me."
"No need. It's already spoiled."
"Are you sure?"
I was quiet for a second before I said, "You go there near the tent and face your back on me then I'll creep behind you a few minutes later."
Guoliang did as told and hummed a song. I noticed Liqin watching us so I stuck my tongue out at him.
I crept behind Guoliang and instantly said, "Ah!"
Guoliang gave me the best reaction. It was exaggerated but funny. His whole body shook. I could not help but laugh.
"Lower down your voice. Guowei is still asleep," Liqin said.
"You're just jealous. If you had cooperated awhile ago, this would have been the two of us laughing our butts off. But since you don't like going with the flow, you have to suffer."
Before he could retort to me, I dragged Guoliang inside my tent while saying, "Let's go inside, Guoliang. We might get infected by someone's bitterness."
Guoliang and I sat across each other.
"Are you going to surprise me here? Do I still need to act scared?" Guoliang asked.
I shook my head. "I have a question. This is a serious question, okay?"
"Go ahead."
"I have a friend. So this about my friend, okay? It's not about me. Who is this about?"
"Your friend."
"Very good," I said. "So my friend who is a girl has a boy best friend. Girl likes seafood but upon finding out that boy is allergic to shrimp, she stops eating seafood because she is afraid that boy would accidentally eat shrimp."
"How could the boy accidentally eat shrimp?"
"Boy always takes food from girl. Later on, girl finds out that boy's favorite food is tofu. She doesn't like tofu but she eats it in every meal. She does it so that when boy takes food from her, it would be his favorite food."
"She is amazing."
"So do you think that girl likes boy?"
Liqin suddenly peeped inside the tent and said, "I told you to keep it down. Guowei is sleeping."
"We're not being loud," I said.
"Guowei's tent is right next to yours. What you think is not loud can wake him up."
"Fine. We'll just whisper."
I brought my face closer to Guoliang and whispered, "So do you-"
"Just talk outside," Liqin interrupted.
I glared at him and said, "You're very irritating. We're going to stay here. We're talking about something important. And it's just between Guoliang and me. We'll keep our voices down. Your beloved Guowei won't wake up."
I pushed him out and closed the tent.
"So as I was saying," I continued, "do you think that girl likes boy?"
"Of course she does."
"But girl is married to man. Then man and boy love each other. Girl tried to kill boy. Does girl still like boy?"
"In that case, she does not."
"But girl said she would be the happiest if she and boy would end up together."
"This is really confusing. Let me think for a bit."
"Yanyu." It was Liqin again. "Guowei called for you."
I glared at him. How many times did I glare that day?
I stood up. "You need to give me an answer when I'm back," I said to Guoliang.
Guoliang stayed in the tent. When I was about to enter Guowei's tent, Liqin stopped me.
"What did you two talk about?" he asked.
"It's our secret. Now let me go so I can do what I need to do quickly and go back inside my tent."
Liqin dragged me to his tent. He pushed me in and said, "Guowei did not call for you."
"So you lied. Really, Liqin?"
"I need to talk to you."
"We can talk later," I said while opening the tent.
He held onto my hand and begged, "Please stay."
