Chapter 19: Not to Slay

I was allowed a little freedom, as if a prisoner could have freedom. I was moved to a different room connected to a small training yard. There was an enclosed craft area as well. I supposed the Master trusted me enough not to slay his guards before they blinked. After he told me about my father, I contemplated that he might have kidnapped me for some fraction of a reason.

As much as it was a relief to know someone believed his death was not a coincidence, part of me wondered why the Master Hunter took so long to find me. Whatever ties he had to my father, why did he allow five years to pass. Was he ever going to do anything about the information he knew? I had long given up trying to avenge my father's death. There was only me against the entire council and hardly any leads otherwise.

I practiced swordfighting moves while I contemplated all this again and again, striking with deadly thoughts. I had done my best to stay away from all that chaos and now I may have been brought into someone's plan even more insane. Worn out I dropped my weapon. I wanted to dig deeper, but was afraid of what truth I may find. I had not said a word since I had been captured. Was this quiet better than searching for answers? Was this silence my strength or soon to be weakness?
