Chapter 1: Zokai

Michael was walking home from his high school's championship football game. They had just won against their rivals for the fifth time in a row. The sidewalk was filled with kids and their parents. They had ecstatic looks but there were always a few from the opposing team that had greif obvious on their face. It was starting to become clear this rivalry wasn't at all in their favor. Michael texted on his phone and went on his way home. He was only a sophomore, but had become an important player on defence. During a previous game, he had broken his arm and he couldn't play with his cast, so he had to watch his team on the sidelines, something he hated.

It had begun pouring so he turned down a few alleys with hopes to get home quicker. He walked into a dead end and sighed. He was lost. He turned around and pulled out his phone again to get a gps when he heard the click of a gun. He lifted his head and saw a group of 5 men standing there, blocking the exit. Two of them had guns pointed at him and another had a steel bat. Like him, they were soaked and he could see through their shirts. One of the fortunate ones had a jacket and jabbed his gun in Michael's direction.

"Give us everything you have, kid. Don't make this difficult for any of us". Michal was cornered with only one arm so he was forced to comply. He dropped his book bag and wallet on the floor and stepped back cautiously. The guy with the bat walked forward and picked up the bag and put the wallet inside. Michael had never felt fear like this before. If there weren't guns pointed at him and if he had both arms he'd climb the fence behind him and run. The guy with the bat gave one of his friends the bag and turned back to the 15 year old. He smiled and swung his bat, catching Michael in his knee. He collapsed and braced himself as the man continued to beat him mercilessly. He had broken his legs and arms and went away at his body. The men in the back looked in horror at the brutality. The sound of sirens could be heard in the distance and they ran for it, leaving the dead teen there.

Michael floated in darkness for an immeasurable amount of time. He had long gone insane but after a while he accepted his fate and just floated in silence. After what felt like another eternity he saw a small light in the distance. He could hear whispers around him and saw shadow-like beings trying to reach the light. Michael panicked and started to frantically try to "swim" to the light. He got it first and put it in his mouth. A weird reaction. Light filled him and blinded him. He felt as if he was being sucked into a vortex, but instead of knocking the air out of his lungs he took in a mouthful of air. He could see a woman covered in sweat, passed out on a bed. He could only wiggle his small baby arms and legs. He felt weak and confused. He immediately threw up in the servant's arms. Michal, now called Zokai, decided now would be a good time to sleep.

Over the years Zokai learned that he was the son of a Fire Nation general who had died in the siege of Ba Sing Se. He and Zuko were only 12 and although Iroh was a bit unstable, he still took Zokai in. Zokai's father and Iroh had been close friends, so Iroh couldn't leave the boy. Like Azula, Zokai was proficient in firebending and with the help of Iroh's studies in waterbending, he learned lightning bending. When Iroh had "killed" the dragons, Zokai had trained with the beasts to make his bending even better, turning his flames purple and learning a form of combustion bending. His strength and new fire color granted him the title: The Violet Dragon.

He had always been wary of the firelord and Azula. Since they valued strength, their eyes were always on him as he learned new techniques. It took a lot of persuasion and sneaking to follow his best friend Zuko on his banishment, and he only got to go thanks to Iroh.

Zokai was laying on the metal deck as they neared closer to the southern water tribe. Zuko, with his weird haircut, had seen the beam of light and was yelling for the ship to move to follow. Thanks to Zokai's knowledge of the show in his previous life he was prepared to meet and finally fight against the Aang Gang. For 3 years they've been searching for Aang and now, they were close to confirming he was even alive. He didn't want to necessarily kill them, but over the years his bond with Zuko had grown, so he would fight the protagonists until Zuko grew a change of heart. Hopefully he doesn't accidentally ionize Katara into plasma. Zuko had a brief argument with Iroh as his uncle tried to calm him down. Zuko turned to his friend, who was stretching out on the metal.

"What are you doing?" Zokai looked up to the golden eyes of Zuko and sighed. "Reaxing." Zuko grabbed his tunic and pulled him up. "We don't have time for that! Get up and prepare yourself, the Avatar is here." Zokai brushed himself off. Last time Zuko said that, Zokai had to burn a few  earthbenders to ash. A flare shot up in the sky and exploded. Zuko pulled out a spyglass and looked in the direction of the flare. Zokai studied his expression of anger and saw a deep hope. He knew Zuko longed for his father's recognition and his place back in the Fire Nation. He sighed and looked at Iroh. The Dragon of the West just sat there playing with his game and drinking tea. "I'll go forward and look. Be right back." Zokai jumped off the ship and ignited his purple flames beneath himself and flew ahead of Zuko and his men.

After a few minutes he stopped to rest on an Iceberg as he watched Aang and Katara return to the village. He smiled as he really wanted to meet them on normal terms. But, he had to stick with Zuko, betraying him now would not help the plot or Zuko's sanity. He flew back and reported what he found. Zuko ordered they go  straight to the village and after a brief warning from Iroh they set sail for the Southern Water Tribe. They crashed through the ice and stopped at the small village. Zokai, Zuko, and other fire nation soldiers. Zuko stepped forward. "Where is the Avatar!" After Aang showed himself and they had their little fight, he only came because he didn't want the people to get hurt. Zokai bound his hands and Zuko took his staff and led the way back to the ship. They waited in Zuko's cabin and tried to discuss matters.

It was bare and made of the same metal as the rest of the ship. Zokai sat on the mattress and Zuko leaned against the wall on the other side of the room. "Now that you have the Avatar, you can't expect him to willingly come back to the Fire Nation to simply die without trying to escape." Zuko only stared at the glider staff in deep contemplation. Zokai took a glance at the scar on his friend's face and could remember the physical and emotional pain he had gone through. That was what sparked this behavior, along with his banishment of course. Zokai just stared at the Fire Nation merchandise and Zuko's swords when he heard soft footsteps coming down the hall. After a few seconds Aang ran in and grabbed his staff. Zuko immediately attacked and shot a stream of fire at the young avatar which he barely dodged. Unfortunately the fire flew to Zokai but he easily redirected it back to Aang. The boy dodged again and with nimble movements was able to evade all their attacks, now if Zokai could put his all. But the room was too small and he couldn't use any explosions or anything. Aang blasted them both against the walls with wind as he ran out the room. Zokai helped Zuko up and chased after Aang. Zokai always wanted to do something like this. As the Avatar jumped out the window and Zuko followed him Zokai pointed and compressed his fire to as small as he possibly could and shot a beam of what looked like wind. Combustion bending without that third eye crap. The beam exploded above them. It sent the prince and the Avatar crashing to the deck.

Zokai launched himself from the window and rolled onto the metal as Aang and Zuko had begun to "fight" again. It was more like Zuko shooting his weak ass fire as Aang struggled to deflect it. Zokai shot two fire missiles behind Aang and blasted him back to the center of the ship. A loud roar sounded behind them and a girl's voice so Zokai turned and saw Appa flying Katara and Sokka towards them. Zokai charged a fireball and launched it at the sky bison. Appa easily dodged and continued towards them. Just as Zokai was about to throw two more fireballs he was almost thrown off the ship with everyone else but he managed to propel himself up and back on the deck. He saw Appa land on the metal.

Katara and Sokka hopped off and grabbed Aang who had almost passed out from using the Avatar state. Zokai stood up and created deep purple flame daggers as his black hair flowed behind him. More soldiers started to come from below deck to surround the enemies. Zokai wanted to escape as Katara used her terrible skills to immobilize the crew, escaping with Aang who dropped tons of snow on them. Zuko was malding as he ordered the crew to free the ship. Zokai made quick work of it and followed Zuko.

"Well, should we follow him?" Zokai asked. Zuko blew smoke out from his nose. "Obviously. We must find him again. Next time I won't underestimate him." Zuko walked into his room and closed the door. Zokai simply didn't have the calming personality of Iroh. He was primarily a fighter and was itching for someone he didn't have to hold back against, like the Firelord for example. But he didn't want to die or potentially hurt Zuko's pride by doing what he couldn't just because. He passed the order to follow the flying bison to the helmsman and went back to relax in the cold southern air.
