Chapter 45: The mysterious package

"Agh! This can't be happening…." Amanda Smith nervously waited for a call and taped her fingers on the bed. "How did she know?" She wondered. Her hands were shaking badly in fact her whole body was shaking with fear that her secret will be revealed. She gritted her teeth to suppress her anger. One small slip up and her secret would be out. She did her best to remain patient but it was already running low.

Knowing her husband if their secret were to be exposed then he would pass the blame onto her and quick her out the family. Their relationship was once formed with love but it's no longer like this. Now they just live together because of their greed for money and power.

"Amanda…." Her husband entered through the door and she got up and ran into his arms seeking some sort of consolement. Her husband embraced her and sighed."I'll solve it don't worry." He told her. "You will solve it?" She questioned with a frown. "You said the same thing when that baby was born! But now what? Genesis already knows the truth…." She looked down with gloom.

She clenched her fists. "Calm down! I said I would solve it and I will." He glared at her and closed their bedroom door with a bag. He left her alone in the room because he was already having enough of her panicked state. He felt his wife was being dramatic. His arrogance didn't allow him to see clearly and he was convinced that Genesis can do nothing.

Why should he be afraid of Genesis? Instead, the roles should be reversed and Genesis should be the one afraid of him!

Surely, he is very wrong.

"Agh! I hate this!" She shouted and threw everything on her vanity to the ground. She broke everything that met her eyes. Her face was pale and she was extremely nervous. Finally, she received the phone call she was waiting for.

" What can I do for you, Madam?" She heard a male voice ask. She sat on her bed with clenched fists. " That girl I need you to get rid of her." She ordered. " Madam, she is being protected by your niece. I can't do anything to her without being found out." The male voice responded. " I don't care. You have to get rid of her!" She ordered.

" I can consult a friend of mine that is good at taking such jobs but his price is very high." The man responded. " That doesn't matter, make it as soon as possible." She ordered impatiently. "Madam the process will take a while. Your niece has powerful people around her, It's not a simple task." He responded with a dark chuckle.

" I'll double the price." She negotiated. "Deal." She heard the man respond. She started calming down instantly. She cut off the phone call and fell on her knees. She then started sobbing on the floor full of regret.

Hanging up the call the man turned off the recorder. He then sent the recording to the first phone number in his contacts list.

He smirked. " Oh well. More money for me." He mumbled and turned off the computers in front of him. He exited the darkroom with a joyful smile and he was humming a tune.

After that phone call, his mood had been lifted.

Genesis was scrolling down the images inside the flash drive with her lips pursed. Suddenly a notification from an unknown number popped on her phone. When she noticed the person's phone number her lips curled upwards.

She picked up her phone and listened to the recording attentively. " I'm sorry aunt but things will be going sideways for you from now on." She uttered with disappointment in her voice. She hoped her aunt wouldn't be this heartless to Jess. This way she would have been easier on her aunt but now….

She shook her head and continued going through the photos in the flash drive. She printed them out and placed them inside a yellow envelope. She turned off the laptop and locked her study room. Genesis walked back to her room in deep thought. She was focused on what her aunty had told her before. 'How should I tell him?' She thought, not wanting to hide the update from him. After all, it isn't completely her decision because he also takes part in this.

Inside her bedroom, she called Jess and was continuously tapping the yellow envelope in her hands. Once the call connected she sighed. "Jess I have another task for you." She told her. " Yes, ma'am what can I do for you?" Jess replied playfully.

"Tomorrow night, come and pick up something. I want to give it to you in person. There are eyes and ears everywhere." Genesis told her sternly. Jess stopped smiling and also turned serious. " That must mean the contents of the package are very important." She assumed. "Mhhh very it can destroy two people's lives." Genesis informed her and her aura changed. She got up from her bed with the envelope in her hand and sat on her vanity. She opened the bottom drawer and held the locket Aiden had gifted her in her hand.

She gripped it and looked at herself in the mirror with a complicated look as she questioned her actions. " Genesis you aren't planning to…" Jess suggested. " Can you blame me? It's true that I have changed but that doesn't mean I won't fight back against whoever harms me. I'm tired of the person I see in the mirror every day. She is only there because she wanted to protect herself from getting hurt." She explained. She looked down at the locket in her hand and she smiled.

Her expression softened. " After all, I already moved on and the past can no longer haunt me. At some point, I thought of letting go of my grudge but they keep coming for me so I have no choice but to fight back." She continued. Jess sighed. " Although I wish you would keep as far away from that world I can't blame you. I will always be by your side and support you no matter what." Jess spoke to her confidently and Genesis chuckled.

" Thank you. I don't know what I would do without you in my life. All of you to be precise. I will start visiting the team more often from now on." Genesis told her.

" Okay. The reports you asked for will be delivered soon. Never mind the delivery guy is one block away from your apartment." Jess informed her as she looked at the computer in front of her. "Mmm," Genesis responded and bid her goodbye.

When the call was over Genesis gently rubbed the carving behind the locket and she knitted her eyebrows together, deep in thought. " Why Is that there?" She wondered. "I'll ask him later." She concluded and moved her hair to the side so that she could put the locket on.

She then laughed. " I can't believe I'm actually putting it on." She shook her head and walked out of her room to receive the reports.

There was a knock on her door when she was coming down the stairs so she paused before continuing. She opened it and met with a young man around 18 years old. He handed her a rectangular box with her name and address. She narrowed her eyes when he gave her a meaningful glance.

"I don't remember ordering anything. May I know what company this is from?" She asked. The young man was slightly startled. "Miss I don't know anything please don't ask." He spoke nervously and ran off. Genesis quickly let the package fall on the ground.

She then closed her door and counted back from five. She placed her shirt over her nose and walked far from the box. She waited for a few minutes but nothing unexpected happened except that there was another knock on her door.

She frowned and carefully moved the box away from her. She looked through the whole on her door and saw another man outside. This time he looked in his mid-thirties and he had a serious expression on his face but she could notice how impatient he looked. She opened the door and examined him. "What company are you from? Sorry I don't remember ordering anything?" She asked.

" Miss it's from Lenny's bakery. The contents are still hot please be careful." He told her and Genesis gave him a nod. She took the two boxes in his hands and closed the door.

" I was only supposed to receive one package though.' She thought.
