Chapter 77: Part LXXVII
*CRYSTAL'S POV*
My heart leaps for joy as I walk out of the meeting hall with Zara behind me. She probably noticed how uncomfortable I was and saved me from further awkwardness. I can't sit there and listen to them talk about me like a lab rat. Lord knows I would've excused myself if Zara didn't step in.
We walk in silence till we get to the front of my room and once we're there, Zara stops walking.
"Have a nice rest your grace." She bows slightly when I turn around and look at her with confusion etched in my forehead.
"Don't leave. Stay with me." I say almost pleadingly but still with authority. She looks at me for a while before finally nodding once and I smile, opening the door for us to go in.
Once we're in, I remove my shoes immediately and pack my hair in a pony while Zara stands rigidly by the door, watching me."Come in." I chuckle and she does as told, sitting on the couch while I sit on the bed.
Everyday I wake up, thinking everything's fine and try to forget all my worries but then, something happens and reminds me of the kind of world i'm in.
A strange world filled with so much hate for me from people I can never defeat. A world where the strong tramples on the weak. A world where the knowledged takes advantage of the ignorant.
I never had to worry about things like this on earth, my greatest worry was not being able to spend time with my husband. I miss you Dylan. I miss you greatly and I'd give anything, I'd give everything to be with you once again. Just one last touch, one last hug, one last time.
"Troubled mind?" Zara says and I return back from my daze.
"Is there a way to avoid it? Show me please." I sigh.
"Death." She says and I immediately look at her confused.
"What?"
"Death." She repeats. "That's the only escape from a troubled mind in times like this."
"Well," I say and chuckle, "death always ignores my calls. I guess it doesn't want to have anything to do with me anymore."
"Sounds like a broken relationship." She jokes without a hint of emotion on her face but I laugh anyways. I'm starting to get used to her cold face and I know she'd warm up to me with time just like she is with Jana, the librarian.
"Who was the human whom was crowned previously?" I ask Zara after a few seconds of silence. Vincent said something of that sort and I was completely confused. Sean told me that I'm the first human Queen, did he lie?
"I didn't come here for an interview your grace." Zara says and I immediately hear a strum of the string of anger in my heart. I hate it when people know something but purposely keep me in the dark.
"As your queen, Zara I command you to tell me who the previous human ruler was." My voice is low but commanding and although she tries to conceal it, I can very much see the surprise in her eyes.
"I'm sorry but I can't." She says and I don't bother hiding the surprise in my own eyes. "I don't know why Vincent said it but he wasn't supposed to speak of it."
"Not supposed to? Who gave the order?"
"The king, Sean."
"But that's insane." I say angry and hurt, frustrated I do not know what is going on. "Why would you not be allowed to speak of your rulers."
"The history book." She says and I frown, "you read it, didn't you?"
"Huh?" I say lowly, my frown deepening. What has that got to do with anything.
I immediately remember the list of rulers documented in the book and that Sean's parents weren't included. It only ended with a King, King Xavier and he didn't have a bride. His mother was omitted and I haven't heard anyone speak of her. Is King Xavier the human ruler?
"Read more and you'll get the right answer to your question," she says, "or probably, the right questions to ask."
My mind ponders on what she just said as it wanders around looking for light, searching for answers. I don't think a human could come on their own accord and rule, there must've been an insider to enforce such just as Sean enforced mine but King Xavier had no spouse, unless she was omitted. Could his spouse be Sean's mother? I need to know her name but how can I get Zara or Sean or anyone to tell me? Her name would give me a lead on where to search and what to search for. I can do this, I can find answers by myself.
"I'll be taking my leave now, on your permission." Zara says and I nod, standing up as she does too.
"Tomorrow," I say and she stops walking, "take me to the library."
"Some of your wishes are my command," she turns around and bows a little, "your grace."
I smile and she walks out, shutting the door behind her while I fall to bed exhausted, staring into space.
Few minutes of silence and I become conscious of the fact that I'm alone now. Memories and sounds from the kidnap fill my head, terrifying me and I sit up on the bed, hugging my knees while I look around searching for something I do not want to find.
What does she want or rather, who does she want.
The memory of when Sean announced to the inner council about his marriage to me and how Adrian flared up. He made mention of how they obeyed her and let her bring in a human to their kingdom who ended up ruining it.
"There'll be no more jeopardy, not because of a human and definitely not because of your family again!" Were his exact words and my eyes widen as my beats even faster. Not because of Sean's family, again?
Was it Sean's mother who brought the human? Was Sean's father a human?
