Chapter 45: Chapter 44 - Stay

Persuading Lairith and Thelopi into following Amara back proved to be a bit of challenge as it meant venturing into a foreign place filled with unknown danger that could potentially place their lives in jeopardy.

From the beginning, they were confident that their sister was alive somewhere. They knew that she was a fighter and wouldn't easily succumb to her capturer, they only hoped they she wouldn't be to injured so when they saw her standing in front of them without a single scratch they were relieved.

Before they arrived here, they thought that once they had found Amara, they would immediately return home. They did not expect such a situation to arise and so were also a bit lost in what to do.

For a while, they've noticed that these people were different from humans. Their bodies did not possess the frailty humans had but instead sensed the explosive power in their bones. They were strong, strong enough to potentially pose a threat to their survival. And they didn't dare make light of this 'feeling' as it stemmed from their instincts that were instilled in them to survive.

Not only that, but an added danger was that these people lived amongst humans so what made them so different from them? Humans are naturally unworthy creatures, they were deceptive and cruel for something so weak so their words were the last thing they'd trust.

The two side stood opposite of each other with Lairith staring Austin and the others down. Lairith stretched her hand out to Amara, "Let's go home."

Despite not understanding what she said, her actions were clearly indicating that the woman was trying to take Amara away from him. Austin hastily grabbed her wrist. His grip had a considerable amount of force in it but not enough to hurt her. "...Please don't leave me," he didn't know the extent of her feelings for him and wasn't sure whether he was enough of a reason for her to stay.

If she decided to leave him then he didn't know what he was going to do. He was scared. Scared that his desperation will drive him to do something that would make her hate him forever but he couldn't just watch her leave him without doing anything.

In the air lingered the faint smell of salt. The hate he held for the ocean was at its peak. It was as if the crashing waves were constantly reminding him that Amara did not belong to him-that they were from two different worlds. How he wished that all of the ocean disappeared right now so she would have no choice but to stay with him.

He was not the only one whose heart was filled with anxiety. Jackson was desperately holding himself back from caging his mate in his arms to stop her from leaving him. Was he going to lose her just as he found her? No, he couldn't just let things end this way.

"P-please don't go yet," he pleaded, taking a step closer to her, "I-i just found you," his eyes that showed fear and and anxiety had her hesitating. She didn't like him looking at her like that.

His trembling voice had Lairith feel a ripple of emotion, like a small wave that swayed her heart before becoming still once again. His existence created a discrepancy within her that she could not explain. She was strangely drawn to him like a moth to a flame. There was no explanation as to why she was being like this and that slightly disturbed her. Her mind was telling her to leave, to leave now before she's in too deep but at the same time she was curious. What was this man to have made her feel this way?

She looked at Amara, their eyes colliding. The two recognised the unfamiliar emotion each held within their gaze. They were both hesitant and unsure what they should do. In one hand, they wanted to leave and return to familiar trenches where they belonged, but on the other hand, they felt a small desire to stay. They wondered what it was that these men did that intrigued them so.

The time Amara spent here had her feeling more attachment to this world compared to her sister. Thinking about how she wouldn't be able to see the man by her side anymore made her feel a sense of loss that she's never felt before. Was it because he treated her well that she felt this way? Was it because of the food that he made, or the soft caresses he would give her? Every second, every minute she spent with him made her feel more complete than she ever has in her life.

Over the course of a couple of weeks, the man beside her had quietly inserted himself in her heart, slowly making a place for himself there. She knew that if they continued like this, it wouldn't be long before her heart would be filled by him so why was she hesitating?

Siren's can't feel love because all they've ever known is momentary lust. They knew how to manipulate a man's desire, their heart, their mind, it was as easy to them as breathing so how could they possibly feel love?

Amara and Lairith battled these conflicting feelings before settling down and eventually resigning themselves to it.

Fine. Since these men are so determined to keep them here then why not stay? They were never ones who held themselves back from taking what they want anyway so why is this situation different. These men had caught their interest, so now they'll have to take responsibility for it. Since they believe they can't feel love, they're looking forward to seeing how they'll make them fall in love with them and if they can't, they will birth their child before returning home. They are strong, so if they had their offspring then their child would undoubtedly be strong as well.

Amara gave a slight nod to her siblings before turning around to face Austin who's eyes were still looking at her with anxiety.

"We have decided to stay... for now." she finally says.

His anxious face melted into relief. He tightly embraced her "Thank you," he breathed out. Amara felt his pounding heart, it was strong and fast showing just how nervous he was. She silently stood in his embrace, a faint smile visible on her face.

Jackson and Lairith stood before each other, his eyes still pleading. Lairith remained cold, staring at him before pinching his chin and pulling it closer to her. There wasn't a big difference in their height with Jackson being only a couple inches taller than her.

She brought his face closer to hers until there was only a couple inches of space left between them. His eyes slightly widened in surprise looking like a deer caught in the headlights. Finding his expression cute, Lairith smirked.

"I- um" he stammered.

"-We will stay, for now." she cut him off.

He froze before smiling brightly "Really?!"

Lairith nodded. Jackson was so happy that before he could think of anything else, he hugged her tightly.

"You know, I feel quite left out," a voice called out. Beside Lairith stood Thelopi who looked at them with pouty lips. He ignored all of their suprised faces and continued to show how sad he felt.

"You can speak English?" Felix asked curiously .

"Of course, unlike these two, it's not my first time going on land,"

"So you could understand everything we've been saying this whole time?"

Thelopi laughed while nodding his head, "i must say that it's been quite a while since I've seen a man as handsome as you," he said and playfully winked at him "Now, why don't we start heading back to your... 'home'?"

Felix couldn't help but think that Amara's family was pretty unique in terms of their personality, "Thank you for the compliment but I'm married,"

"How unfortunate," he said regretfully.

Felix took hold of Jessie's hand and began walking towards the cars. Jessie, Felix and Jackson had all arrived together that meant they had two cars with them.

"Austin where are we meeting? Your house or office?"

"House," he answered. The amount of visitors he had in his house these past couple of weeks have skyrocketed. Before, only a handful of people came over his house but now that was no longer the case. He sighed, he could feel that things were going to get busy from now on. No matter, as long as Amara was with him he paid it no mind.

On the way back, the group of five: Austin, Amara, Jackson, Lairith, and Thelopi, were in one car while Felix and Jessie took the other. Jessie felt a little bit upset because she wanted to talk to Amara's siblings so badly but in the end there weren't enough seats for everyone and so had to ride back with her husband.

The five of them sat silently in the car. In the front seats were Austin and Amara and in the back, Lairith sat in the middle with Thelopi and Jackson sitting on each side of her.

Jackson gave her curious glances before finally deciding to speak, "Hi my name's Jackson I'm sorry I didn't get to introduce my self earlier,"

Lairith kept silent turning the atmosphere a little awkward. It wasn't because she didn't want to talk to him but rather can't as she still hasn't adapted to their language.

"He's saying that his name is Jackson and that he's sorry for not introducing himself earlier," translated Amara, she looked at Jackson, "Her name is Lairith, she still hasn't learned your language yet, give her a couple days,"

Lairith... her name was just as beautiful and unique as she was.

"What are you?" Thelopi curiously asked, "Because you don't smell human,"

Austin glanced at the mirror setting his eyes on Jackson. How were they going to explain this without alarming them?

After a moment Jackson finally answered "We are werewolves,"

"Werewolves? As in Lycans?"

Jackson raised an eyebrow, they have not been referred to as lycans in a very long time, "Yes that is one of the many names they used to call us,"

Thelopi looked at them as if seeing them for the first time, "Wow I thought those were extinct, guess not,"

"You... know of us?"

Thelopi nodded "You used to hunt us a long time ago, along with the humans,"

The car became quiet, so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. Neither Jackson nor Austin knew what to say to that. They have never heard of their ancestors mention such a thing. He's looked through their records many times and there has never been a mention of sirens never mind hunting them.

"Are you sure? Because there has never been a record of our ancestors discovering sirens never mind hunting them,"

Thelopi shrugged his shoulders "I don't know about you but there have been stories past down from our ancestors of wolf shifters that used to help the humans capture us. We hold quite a grudge, so our people don't like you very much. Some even take extensive action towards your kind in retaliation to what you did to us."we"he looked between Amara and Lairith "... But I guess there are some exceptions,"

"And what about you?" Austin asks him.

Thelopi looked at him deeply before answering "I'm not sure yet. I'm not the biggest fan of you but to say that I despise you would mean that I care,"

After hearing his answer Austin didn't ask anymore. Thelopi's words made it hard to adjust the atmosphere into a more light hearted one so the ride back to Austin's home became a quiet one
