Chapter 1: Why am I here exactly?

Grant awoke with a start, looking at his surroundings in confusion. He was currently sat in what appeared to be a rather cozy living room, with cushioned couches facing one another and a coffee table between them. To Grant's left was a large desk with what appeared to be a state of the art custom built tower computer, connected to a high end television. Several gaming consoles were there as well, with numerous game cartridges next to them. On the right was a virtual realty capsule of similar quality to the computer.

As Grant was going to look further, a shadowy silhouette (me) appeared on the couch across from him, leaning back into the couch with their legs on the table. Grant was startled, but didn't waste any energy on panicking just yet.

"So who are you exactly?" Grant questioned.

"You only need to call me Author." I replied with an invisible smile crossing my avatar's face.

"Author? Like in the case of books?" Grant asked curiosly.

"Yep. And in case your curious, let's just say that true author's create and control worlds of their own making. Another quirk being that to you, this is reality, and there is nothing stopping it from being one either. But to me, this entire situation is a figment of imagination that I've jotted down out of boredom and/or creative drive. Your reality does not progress without me so long as I am alive in my reality, but you do not notice as you are frozen as well." I explained to Grant.

"Now I feel really fricken weird..." Grant said. Which makes sense as for him, I have already fleshed out the entire story while I am just beggining in my mind.

"Alright, I have wasted enough time and brain juice on our conversation as it is, so it is time I tell you why I brought you here." I spoke seriously, wondering about various elements of the story, mostly harem or non harem internal debates though.

"And why is that?" Grant asked me.

"For shits and giggles" I responded as I erupted into a short burst of laughter both in this story and my own reality.

Grant stood there, confounded.

"Oh, and the other reason is to isekai you into Rift but without the players. Enjoy!" I said before sending Grant off.
