Chapter 3: The Arrival

Jay would start following Evan, stumbling along the many vines and roots that covered the path as he tried his best to follow along.

"Err, could you tell me more about this 'Sanctuary' place, Evan?" Jay asked, wanting to know more from a stranger he had just met. Then again, said stranger was a tween who had saved him from a monster attack, so he had sort of won over a bit of trust.

"Didn't I already say this? Well, anyways, it's like its name suggests; a sanctuary. It's a place for Demigods and all others who fall under that sort of spectrum, slightly hard to explain." Evan would stop as they reached a door. A door that stuck out like a sore thumb in the lush part of the forest they arrived at, the frame being golden and the body a clean silver with copper linings. The doorknob was... pure diamond?

"What in the...?" Jay would blink hard as he gasped, "Is that diamond?!" Jay was baffled they had a doorknob made solely of diamond. Just what kind of place is this?!

"Yep, don't be so impressed yet." Evan would say as he snickered, seemingly pleased at the other's response.

Evan would knock hard on the door as the door would start to shift, the ground quaking as dirt was blown towards them. Evan simply stood and closed his eyes, Jay becoming bewildered and dropping to the ground in fear as it stopped. Jay would flinch as he now looked up, recognizing two wooden, worn out totem poles with what seemed like faces and cloth around the forehead of said faces. Inscriptions written in black ink went down the base of the totem poles, the ink starting to glow as a golden light washed over them.

"What in the...!?" Jay would put his hands up and cringe at the light as the totem poles would speak in words he couldn't comprehend. Nonetheless, the door would shutter and open as Evan motioned for Jay to follow him, walking forward as light poured from the door.

Jay had gone through so much, and now he's starting to numb himself and his expectations. He knew that there's probably much crazier things to come, and seeing as it's mid-day, he probably has much, much more to learn.

"I'm... I'm coming, Evan!" He said to inspire himself as he stepped forward and went headfirst into the light, wincing as it all vanished and he was brought to a new place. The first thing he could realize was the smell, a scent undescribable by any words but home. He felt as if he was at home with that first breath, a small breeze pushing his hair aside as the wind hit his face perfectly. He felt truly at ease as he now took in his surroundings.

All around him, nature truly prospered. The grass was a vibrant green, the hilltop he found himself at being an almost calm bump in the plains that followed. In the distance, he could truly take it in, the entirety of The Sanctuary. It was an enormous place, it truly was, he could barely see the coastline in the distance as he took in all of the other structures it possessed. Starting in front of himself, a paved road lead far into The Sanctuary, to what appeared to be a city hall or statehouse in the distance. Along the road he saw many buildings, resembling cabins with their own distinct features.

One cabin possessed oak logs making it up, with bushes and vines traveling all around it, especially around the frames of the entranceway and the stairs. It was a fairly large cabin, 2 stories tall, and possessing a tri-layered totem out front with 3 faces for each layer. The totem was unlike the ones he'd encountered at the entrance, the totem being uninscribed and the faces being more intricate and detailed. It seemed more or less lax, with some talking being heard inside and a single Native American man sitting out front, dozing off.

Jay's eyes then traveled to another cabin was a bit farther away from the road, being a bit grand and made of marble and other stones of finer quality. It was obviously bigger than the first and reminded him of mansions he'd seen in movies. Overall it seemed rather empty and out front, it had 2 statues, one of a man with a lightning bolt in hand and another of a woman with a gown and crown on, as well as a scepter in hand.

He then saw about 4 other cabins, each of their own design that he couldn't yet make out due to the distance. However, to the left of him, he could see a large, Pavillion like structure with pillars surrounding a large base, the pillars having curtains draped in the empty space between them to mimic a traditional one. Jay could see a lot of people, people of all races and types, as well as beings with goat legs, serpentine bottom halves, and much more, eating lunch as platters, flew to different tables. Jay could also make out faint structures, pyramids, and temples alike in the far distance roughly a mile away, possibly places of worship for those here to their parents?

Jay also saw little beach house in the distance, one of strange design with a set of logs holding it high in the air and the cabin rather small, the size of a single room. He could make out a silhouette of a figure with a cup of something in their hands, just sipping away as for a moment Jay swore he saw the figure looking them right in the eye. He saw a field a bit away from them, it made of sand and containing training dummies along with a rack of weapons of all sorts, as well as an intricate obstacle course he saw some people in.

Besides the field, he saw an open-roofed building made entirely of stone, containing a completely decked-out workshop, multiple blast furnaces, and a lot of other things Jay recognized as tools and machinery. He then saw a couple of traditional tents, held together by white cloth and other materials, a bright red cross being in front of it too show it was a medical ward of sorts.

All of this amazed Jay and left him breathless at the size and amount of things in camp. He truly couldn't comprehend a community coming together to form this and to put aside their differences for their own form of the greater good. It left him baffled, to put it quite simply.

"Seen enough, boy?" Asked a hefty and deep voice, the voice resonating with power but kindness as well.

"Say what?" Jay would snap out of his dream-like daze, turning to the right to see a man in front of him. He had slicked back, light blonde hair, with a few strands sticking out the front and sporting a Donegal-style beard, his features representing he was a bit on the older side, but not too old as wrinkles only began to form. The man also wore a well-fitting, light brown suit that made him look pretty buff, at least to Jay.

"Welcome to The Sanctuary, Jay." The man said, with a small smirk. "I am Mikael, the guardian of this establishment. By the way, Evan, you're free to go to the Pavillion. Thank you again for your kindness to fetch Jay over here."

"No problem, big guy!" Evan said with a giggle, jokingly undermining the older man as Mikael gave a small smile, Evan walking off to the distance.

"Uhm, how exactly do you know my name?" Jay asked, fidgetting nervously.

"Well, I have my ways, do not fret. I mean no ill will to you, rather the opposite!" Mikael exclaimed, clearing his throat before a chuckle ensued. "Anyways, welcome, young one, to The Sanctuary."

Mikael would put his hands in a sort of 'Brava' gesture, to show off the camp as Jay sported a small smile, feeling at ease with Mikael's kindness. Was... Was this the beginning to a new life? One with adventure, excitement, and much more? Would he fit in? Would he be able to become accustomed or would his fears get in the way? At this moment, he couldn't help but think of the negatives, but soon he felt inspired by the expectations set for him prior, by himself and others. He couldn't wait, because this was the beginning of his new life!

"I'm glad to be here, Mikael!" Jay said with a grin, his mindset different from before as he grew excited, for once in his life... Excited for the unknown!
