Chapter 37: More and more cultivation
The next couple days after the tournament were used a rest days for the Kovacs Clan's new generation of Fae Masters.
Most used the time to go over their weaknesses and start to develop an idea of where to build their abilities considering the fae that they currently possessed.
In the future, Borik would continue to develop his bear transformation fae and increase his physical abilities so as to become more all-round in regards to his offensive, defensive and endurance during combat.
Ratimir could continue refining his martial arts, incorporating them with fae that enhanced them. Using stream fae and bone sword fae were examples of this, as well as the bark growth fae that could turn into a shield.
Alina would try and find more shadow and dark attributed fae in order to increase her overall combat ability. She would excel in ambushes and battles in the dark, where the full powers of her fae could be realized.
And Randolf, well....
"Keep improving his knowledge on fire attributed fae, as well increasing his repertoire of fire attributed fae. Since things are different this time, he would no doubt try and offset some of the weakness I could take advantage of an increase his overall number of fae".
Arthur knew that his actions would have consequences, but didn't care, opting to increase his strength so as to prevent his "classmates" from becoming stronger than him.
Using the origin stones that he had won, and the origin stones that he had received from Randolf, Arthur only took a day to refine the wind stalker fae, letting the small dragonfly rest within his Soul origin essence sea.
His attention was focused on the other fae in his arms, one tiny little mantis, one with the same colour as silver as the moonsword fae did.
This was a moonslice fae.
The one he had received from Randolf, who had received it from the Clan Reserves as a result of his "victory".
He almost didn't expect Randolf to honour their agreement, and prepared countermeasures in case he didn't. But in the end, Arthur didn't need to use them and smiled as Randolf handed the fae over to him.
"In terms of complimentary ability, the moonslice fae can increase the strength of the moonsword fae by at least 3 times. It can allow a crescent shaped slice to appear out of the moonsword, and directly towards the opponent".
One could use this ability without the moonsword fae, however, both its range and strength would decrease.
These two fae's abilities complimented each other, and increased the strength of the other dramatically.
The complimentary abilities between Randolf's fae would be like this in the future. Once he figured out which Fae complimented each other, his strength would increase several fold.
Arthur smirked.
'Too bad it'll take longer this time around. Without getting his third fae, his strength won't increase as fast', he thought.
The moonslice fae was like the moonsword fae though. It needed to drink water, under the light of the moon.
The requirements was a little bit annoying, but relatively cheap in the long run.
The wind stalker fae needed to eat the leaves of a special plant. This particular plant was a Rank 1 Fae material, so it cost Arthur origin essence stones to purchase in bulk.
But for the foreseeable future at least, he didn't need to worry about the food requirements of any of his Fae.
"Now that the tournament has ended, it is time for me to focus on increasing my cultivation. I need to reach liquid quartz origin essence before I can delve deeper into the forest. With that, I won't need to worry about the origin essence expenditure of most of my fae, at least against opponents of the same stage".
It was possible to encounter other Fae Masters from some of the other Clans in Winter Rain Mountain. In the event that such a thing were to occur, battles were usually fought if some precious fae, or rare Fae material had been found.
Arthur needed to prepare for that eventuality.
"My offensive abilities are fine, better than fine for now. I can manage in both short to mid range combat. My speed has been increased as well, with the addition of the wind stalker fae. Defensively I have nothing, while I also have the camouflage fae and the black smog fae for ambushing, or getting out of a tough situation.
"The water leaf fae and the bloodseeker leaf fae aren't combat related but still play an important role. The latter can still provide me with origin essence, even during battle, so its worth is higher, even without considering the benefits it brings in my cultivation".
Arthur sighed.
It would take at least another ten days until he became a Rank 1 liquid quartz origin essence Fae Master. Ten days of hard work.
He couldn't slow down now. He refused to.
Placing "second" in the first tournament of the new generations Fae Masters was the same as his previous life.
His Origin Fae wasn't the Winter Solstice Salamander, but the normal Winter Fae.
In addition, the Fae he picked out of the Clan Reserves was the supportive Icicle Fae, which was the same in terms of power as the Crimson Fae.
His mother also gave him another Fae, the ice shield fae, which increased his defensive abilities.
With the sole exception of his talent, his choice in regards to fae were similar to Randolf's. Only he had a bigger background behind him, and as such, much more knowledge regarding Fae and how to use them.
But things were different this time.
His Origin Fae was different, and so was the Fae he picked from the Clan.
The current Arthur possessed a much wider variety of Fae, with a much larger range of abilities.
Even if they all didn't compliment one another to directly increase the others strength, they still provided an increase in Arthur's overall strength when he used them together.
This was the difference in experience, as well as the difference in wisdom.
Arthur knew more, plain and simple.
And he used this knowledge to gain everything he could.
The fifteen year old reincarnate smiled slightly, before taking another origin essence stone into his hands. He could feel both the origin essence stone and the bloodseeker leaf fae increase the amount his origin essence in his body, which then leaked out into the moonslice fae in his hands.
The moment he completely refined this fae, his sole focus would be on increasing his cultivation. All other methods or ideas would be stopped until that happened.
Arthur's smile never faltered. And almost no-one could discern his true feelings behind this façade of happiness.
How could they?
It's not like he cared for most of these people anyway.
