Chapter 2: Juniper Robinson

-3 Years Later-

Everytime my feet hit the street, it hit back. I felt free running away from everything with my friend by my side. Emily was beside me running along with me. I felt the wind in our hair and the rules of having to be back at the big house just slipped off of our shoulders. It was now 11pm and we were supposed to be back three hours ago. I felt a tug on my hair, that was signal for us to let me know that Emily needed a breather, so she wasn't left behind.

We slowly stopped running and came to a stop infront of a radio shop. Emily had a big smile on her face and sweat was beading down her face.

"You sure know how to run," she explained.

"I'm only faster because you didn't run a day in your life until a couple of weeks ago." I answered.

We both laughed together and sat down on the bench outside of the store. I listened to some of the radios that were playing, since they didn't turn off until 12am it was a way to pass the time. The purple one played a nice liitle hip-pop tine and the one next to that broacast the weather, and how the weather was going to be unknown since the Storm Magic users weren't responding. Next to that one was another broadcasting radio, but this one was much quiter then the rest. I really needed to focus on it to hear.

"We're now having word that Ava Brightside, the ruler over the Tempest people was killed. Sources say it was by Annie Ruthwood the ruler over the Locus people. Why would the Spirit Queen kill the Storm queen find out later-"

"Earth to Juniper," Emily said.

I snapped out of the trance and looked at her, "What?"

"I've called you three times!" she explained.

I rolled my eyes and got up. I started to move my feet around, "Just tired you ready to go home?"

She nodded in agreement and we started up the block. We walked the rest of the way home, because of how tired we were. Emily was in the middle of geeking out and explaining how type of powers a water magic user would have when we were stopped. A guy in a black pint stripped suit held a kid by the shirt collar, he was being held off of the ground. The boy and the man were face to face, the man looked angry while the boy looked pleased.

"Look mister I'm not sure what you're talking about. I would never steal!" the boy explained.

The boy then turned towards us, revealing a crooked smile and narrow eyes that looked like eyes of a theif. His clothes were ripped and tattered, including his black flat cap which didn't do a good job at hidding his messy, untamed hair.

"Ladies help me out please!" he pleaded, which sounded more like a tease.

Emily was the first one to step in, "Mr. Luck I can assure you that this boy might look like a theif but isn't one."

The boy rolled his eyes that the sentence but went along with it.

"H-how do you know him?" I whispered to Emily.

He's teh social worker for the orphanage that brought in a few kids. He's does Spirit magic." she answered.

"Wow! A real life Tempest? In the flesh!" I exlaimed.

The man dropped th eboy and turned to us. His smile made my spine shiver and his eyes were dark. He kept looking at both Emily and I like we were some great treasures that he had stumbled upon on.

"Girls I understand that you have a curfew and your not at the orphange. While I'm out doing my job taking kids there, shouldn't you be more greatful that you're lucky to stay there and not be on the streets?" He asked us.

We both nodded our heads, he then turned towards the boy and explained to him that we were going to go to the orphange all together. With that he lead the way there, through the dark streets all the way to the little apartment complex that looked like it would only hold 30, but held 100. Along the way we learned a few new things, like the boy's name was Eric and he was living out on the streets since he was 4. The only way to surive was to Take Human's Items for Extreme Fun. Good thing Mr. Luck didn't actually spell out the words in his mind, or he might catch Eric admiting to stealing. Eric also said that Taking Human Items for Extreme Fun was Super, Talented, Exterme, Awesome, Legal, Iconic, and Not Giving back was the best part.

Before we knew it the tan building with brown trim was infront of us. All of the lights were off, making it seem like everyone had gone to sleep, but Emily and I knew better. The nuns were wide awake waiting for us to walk through those doors. Mr. Luck pushed us forward with a smile.

As soon as we got inside the nuns scolded us for being out so late and shoowed us off to bed, saying they had important business with Mr. Luck. Emily and I helped Eric to the boy's rooms. At first he resisted but then went without hesistantion. Emily smiled happily as we walked towards teh girl's room. It looked like she was in a dream, this was one action packed day for her so far.

We were about to open the door when I heard a small thud. It was so soft that it could've just been in my mind, but Robin had heard it too.

We rushed over to the stairs where we had just come up. We sat on the top step out of view, to get a goo look at the scene. Mr. Luck was standing in the living room with a cup of tea in his hand. He sipped it nicely before moving across the room and that's when we saw them. Three nuns were on the ground unconsious, with their eyes open. Then there was suddenly a hand on my shoulder, I was about to scream when another hand covered my mouth. I saw Emily out of the corner of my eye with her finger to her lips. Eric had gotten out of bed and was now trying to get a better look with us.

"Ladies, as you may know our queen has been acting funny. After killing all of the other rulers she then offs herself and leaves this Medius bratt in charge. No worries though, he's going to be gone soon," Mr. Luck explained. "Her last request though was to kill all of the children ever born. Which I have to admit was weird, but now that I think about it. She doesnt want any heirs to the ruler's thrones."

"He's monologing," Eric whispered in an annoyed voice.

Emily and I held back a laugh, it was pretty funny. I stepped down to get a better look at what he was doing.

"Eric Murphy, the troublemaker. Emily Huges, the abondanded, and lastly Juniper Robinson, the helper." Mr. Luck sounded like he was reading our names off of a list.

In a flash he turned towards us, and for the first time I got a good look at his features. He had milky white eyes, with no pupils, and light purple hair that looked like he tried to slick it back but it was messy. He had face paint around his lips, making a smile that went up to his cheek bones. On his left side it was pink and on the right it was blue. His black pinstripe suit wasn't all black and white stripes it had white dots all around.

I grabbed Emily and Eric by their hands and stood up. I ran down the side of the hallway, "Which way? Which Way!"

That's when Emily grabbed our hands and ran in a direction I had never gone before. She guided us towards a sliver door that looked heavy. Eric was the first one to cross over then Emily then me. Emily had taken us to the roof of the orphange.

"Spirit users, can....can.....can use a bit of every type of magic!" Emily explained, "But their own magic can make them tired very easily, so it's....it's sort of a last resort!"

"Very good," the door had opened and Mr. Luck was now on the roof.

Mr. Luck was now glowing a purplish color and I could tell he was gathering energy to make an attack. The three of us were doomed from the start. I looked over at Eric and Emily, they both looked as if they where thinking of a solution. Here I am just wanting to get our deaths over with, I was about to cover them when Emily tugged on my sleeve.

"Do you guys trust me?" she asked.

I nodded my head imedidaliy, while Eric stared at her for a little bit then nodded too.

Emily then took our arms and ran over to the side of the roof and jumped.

"Are you insane?!" Eric shouted as we fell.

Below us was nothing but a trash bin only big enough for one person, and an awning on a large window that could hold three people. The awning was to far to our left and not all of us would make it. That's when we felt a push and the two of us landed on the awning. He head felt like it had been through a washer, Eric laid beside me.

"Emily!" I shouted.

I looked over the side of the awning to find her landed in the trash bin. She was out cold and without a doubt dead, tears rushed to my eyes and the taste of metal was now in my mouth. I turned over on my back and looked up at the sky, that was the last thing I wanted to see, the sky. Not my dead friend, not my new dead friend next to me but the sky. Then everything went black.
