Chapter 3: Third and Fourth Years of Life

For his second birthday, from his godfather, Draco had received Moste Potente Potions by Phineas Bourne, and from his parents he got Quidditch Through the Ages by Kennilworthy Whisp, Hogwarts: A History by Bathilda Bagshot, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard by Beedle the Bard from his parents, who also took him to go shopping for more books the next day, and his library grew much larger.

Draco spent a day reading through some of his books, and his third day after his birthday, his mother and Mrs. Greengrass arranged a playdate, and Draco was brought over to the Greengrass household. Draco didn't mind, and used the opportunity to begin tutoring Daphne, and helping her to learn to speak better as he had planned, though he tried to do so in a fun way.

This went on for two months before Draco met Theadore Nott, and the three of them started hanging out together, with Draco trying to teach them both. In the books, Draco was left with goons like Crabbe and Goyle who were morons, but this Draco was not satisfied with that. Draco, Daphne, and Theodore basically started acting as a small trio, and both of them made huge leaps forward in terms of their developement.

They still could not compare to Draco's natural growth rates from his system, but he thought that they were going to be better off then they would have been in the stories he read, if they'd ever really made any impression at all. Well, it was to be expected that he'd create plenty of changes owed to the fact that he possessed his system at all, so he just had to make sure that he made the world a bit better, didn't he? That was what he believed, at least.

When November 3rd came along, Draco and Daphne attended Theodore's third birthday party, which was where he met Blaise Zabini, Vincent Crabbe, and Gregory Goyle, but Draco was not impressed with these three and preferred to stick with Theo and Daph, both of who had matured a fair bit since Draco started tutoring them. Draco started to sometimes stay over with the Greengrass family, and this included a whole week after Theo's birthday!

November 7th, Mrs. Greengrass brought Draco and Daphne to play at a muggle park, and Draco had a fateful encounter, meeting young Hermione Granger. Daphne thought she was a muggle, so she picked her words carefully with Hermione, like her mother taught her whenever they were walking among muggles, but Draco was completely at ease and started asking about books she'd read.

Hermione was already a little genius, and had learned to read despite heryoung age,, so even though she wasn't his mental match yet, she certainly impressed him, and he started inviting her over to the Greengrass manor to hang out whenever he came to stay there.

Theo was a bit resistant to adding a 'muggle' to their group when he was told about Hermione, but since Draco was still able to talk circles around them all, and Theo was still learning things from Draco which pleased his father, Theo evenually agreed.

And as for Daphne's parents, they were a Slytherin family, but were not the type to be prejudiced against muggles, as evidenced by the fact that they'd take their daughter to a muggle park in the first place. Mr and Mrs Greengrass were similarly impressed with Hermione and did not mind having her over at all, though they still had to be careful not to show magic when she was over. Also, Draco made sure not to mention Hermione to his parents and also stressed to Theo the importance of not telling his father. Only in the Greengrass manor did he think that they could interact wit Hermione now.

Draco, however, started using his system to get a magical milk called Chateau Romani, which over time helped magic develop. For Draco, who naturally had insanely high growth potential, the benefit was almost nothing, but for Hermione, it may help her magic vessal to develop faster, and once she showed signs of her being a witch, they'd have an excuse to talk to her parents and tell them all about the wizarding world.

The milk was one of the few items in his shop with a zero karma cost, so it did not bother Draco at all to share it, and if he could get Hermione into his group before he even reached Hogwarts, wouldn't that be incredible? Such a fateful encounter could not be ignorred.

On February 14th, 1983, Daphne's 3rd birthday, she had two birthday parties, first a small thing with Draco, Theo, Hermione, Daphne, and the parents of both Hermione and Daphne, and the second party later with the purebloods, as was expected.

At the first party, though Theo hadn't blabbed about the secret friendship between Hermione, Draco, and Daphne, he remained a bit uncomfortable with her He basically interacted with Hermione as little as possible while trying not to upset Draco or Daphne.

Draco, at the second celebration met Luna, who was two years and a day old and considered this another fateful encounter.

Draco wished her a Happy Birthday belatedly, and encouraged the shy girl to speak to him. He knew that Luna lived close to the Weasley's, and if he got close to her, he could get closer too, and interact with, the Weasleys. When she did talk, Luna spoke a fairly clearly, though there was still room for improvement

Similary, for his own 3rd birthday, Draco had a small affair over at the Greengrass place so that Hermione could attend, though Theo decided not to come to that party this time, before they headed to the Malfoy manor for the party there. With Voldemort dead, Lucius needed to network and use every opportunity possible to protect the interests of his family, even his sons birthday, so there would be no more small family birthdays in the near future like last year.

Following his 3rd birthday, Draco started getting lessons from Snape in potions once per week, which thrilled Draco, though he still had lots of time to spend with his crew.

Draco and Daphne attended Hermione's 3rd birthday, and both of them gave her books that they thought she would like, but they still couldn't give her magic books since she hadn't shown signs of possessing magic. Draco's scheme to keep providing Hermione with the magic promoting milk, though, went on.

Nothing of interest happened on Theodore's 3rd birthday, but on February 13th, since Draco managed to talk himself into getting an invitation to Luna's birthday, Draco fully took the opportunity to meet Ginny Weasley when she and Luna were alone, that way none of her brothers would sabotage them. They had a nice chat, and Draco ended up passing Ginny a spare copy of Quidditch Through the Ages while encouraging her to follow her dreams. Ginny couldn't read yet, but she loved Quidditch already and Draco thought it was good encouragement for her to learn.

Ginny asked Draco to come to her next birthday, and he happily agreed, even inviting her to his own party, the one at the Greengrass Manor, since he told her the people that would be at the party in the evening would not all be people her family would like, but he advised her that there would be a muggle named Hermione, and her parents at the party, so they couldn't talk about magic. That party was basically a muggle style party.

That actually excited Ginny, who readily agreed and thanked Draco for the book and his words of encouragement. He introduced Ginny to Daphne and encouraged them to become friends as well.

Daphne's birthday the next day was another opportunity to see Hermione, but otherwise was uneventful. Theo showed up, but still interacted with Hermione very little.

Draco's birthday, on June 5th, 1983, was a day that actually surprised Draco immensely. In spite of all his efforts to learn to cast magic, Hermione beat him too it, and used accidentaly/incidental magic at his first party, shocking everyone, including Draco. Draco knew that she was muggle-born, but when he saw her drop her present that was meant for Daphne, and accidentally levitate it, how could he not be surprised?

He quickly guiessed that his system might make incidental magic impossible for hime, so he could only wait until his magical vessel fully developed. "You're a witch too." Draco said to Hermione, smiling, and looked at Hermione's parents "Has something like this happened before?"

They both shook their heads, but Hermione said "Once."

"Well, this changes a lot." Draco smiled at Hermione "Theo, Daphne and I are from magical families, but normally we can't talk about it to non-magic folk, statute of secracy and such. Sometimes witches and wizards appear in non-magic families, that's what you are. It's lucky you made friends with us. We'll help you prepare if you want to go to a magic school when you turn eleven." he offered "I was worried about not being able to see you when I went to the school, but if you go too, there wont be a problem." he reached into his cloak while accessing his library, and pulled out Hogwarts : A History for her "Start with this. We have lots of time to answer all your questions."

When Hermione took the book, Draco quickly hugged her.

Molly Weasley, Ginny Weasley, and Luna Lovegood had attended this party and were able to meet Hermione and her parents, and witnessed the discovery that Hermione was a witch. As a result they became much more interested in talking to Hermione and her parents after the revelation

The next close to three months before Draco's fourth birthday, he frequently used visiting Daphne as an excuse and went to meet Hermione, sharing many books, and teaching her about the magical world.

Just to clarify, I am rushing a bit through Draci's early childhood, but will draw things out bit more once he's a bit older. There is only so much tht he can do before he has the ability to cast magic, yet that does not mean that nothing will happen. Things will get a bit more interesting about 3 chapters from now, while the next two will be more like this.
