Chapter 20: Changing Room

"I guess it's time to pay my family a visit."

For the second night in a row, Elena couldn't fall asleep. It had already been five years since she had last seen her family members. She had definitely changed, but were her family members any different?

The next day, Elena and Mila went to the warehouse early in the morning. Elena had two scenes to film.

"Jin Yinghui! You're here. Come over for a second." Before Elena could even figure out how she was going to ask the director for a few days off, Director Xin called her over.

"Jin Yinghui, from now on, you have your own makeup and dressing room."

Elena looked at the director, confused.

"Do you not know yet? About four days ago, President Lu came to me and specifically requested for you to have your own, private room."

Elena raised her eyebrows before saying, "Oh, I see. Thank you, director. Is it that room? I will go get changed then."

The director nodded and turned around to talk with the cameraman.

The changing room was huge. Usually, only the first female and male leads could have their private room. Elena pulled out her phone and texted Lu Chenjun.

'Thank you for the changing room.'

After Elena had changed, she came out and checked the message again. Lu Chenjun had seen the message already, but he didn't reply.

'He probably regrets giving me a changing room now.' Elena looked down, but she suddenly remembered she had to ask the director for a vacation.

She hurried out of the changing room and ran over to the director.

"Director Xin, I have a favor to ask of you. Is it okay if I can have a two-day break? I have some private problems I need to figure out."

Director Xin froze for a second before saying, "Oh, sure. Try to get it done quickly. We can film the scenes without you first. So, you won't be here tomorrow and the day after tomorrow?"

Elena nodded.

"Okay, we will start filming now."

Elena sighed as she got into position.

Filming ended at 12 P.M., and Mila and Elena were on the way home.

"Do you want me to go with you?" Mila offered.

Elena looked over at her, "Really! Is that possible?"

Mila smiled and said, "Of course. I can drive tomorrow. The car ride is going to be about 45 minutes."

That night, Elena went to bed early but stayed awake the entire night. She woke up at 8 A.M. and made breakfast for Mila. She was going home today. Will her mother feel remorse for what she did? Will her sister get punished for her actions?

The entire car ride to the other side of the Jin Province was completely silent. Mila didn't know how Elena would react if her mother was actually lying to her. Elena said that she doesn't care about her family any more, as they had betrayed her first. However, Mila knew that on the inside, Elena longs for her family, and she still cares about them.

They took a turn and entered an apartment complex. There was a security guard at the gate. Mila lowered her window and smiled at the guard.

"Hello. We are visiting our family members."

The security guard didn't let them in, and asked Mila, "Which building are you visiting? I would have to call them and check who you are to let you in."

Mila gasped and grabbed the security guard's arm. "Wait. Don't."

The security guard raised his eyebrows as he studied Mila and Elena. Elena took off her sunglasses and smiled sweetly at the guard.

"Hello, Mr. Security Guard. My family lives in Building B on the 17th floor. Can you not call them? I am trying to give them a surprise. Here is my ID card if you want to check?"

The security guard stared at Elena. He had never seen a girl as beautiful as her. He took over the ID card and looked at the photo on it.

'How could one's ID photo look so perfect?'

He politely handed the card back, and said, "Sure. I hope your surprise goes well. I'll let you in."

Elena smiled even brighter and thanked him. Mila was shocked. She stared at Elena and gave her a thumbs up.

Mila sighed and shook her head, "Society still judges people by their appearance. If I had lied like that, I swear he wouldn't have let me in."

Elena pushed her hand away and argued, "Hey. I wasn't lying. I am giving my family a surprise. It might not be a pleasant surprise though."

They parked in front of Building B and Elena got out of the car.

"Elena, I'll wait for you down here. If you need me, just call me."

Elena smiled. She was very lucky to have a friend like Mila. She walked confidently into the building and entered the elevator. The elevator opened once on the 10th floor, and a couple walked in. The male kept on staring at Elena, and at some point, even tried to touch her.

When the elevator door opened on the 17th floor, Elena didn't leave immediately. She turned to the female and smiled.

"You look like a good person. Find someone that only has eyes for you and doesn't take interest in other girls. You deserve better. Good luck!"

She patted her shoulder and exited the elevator, leaving the young lady in confusion.

One year ago, she had given her family money to purchase this apartment room. She stood in front of the door, afraid of what she was going to see inside. Finally, she took a deep breath and pressed the doorbell.

Inside the apartment room 1737, Wang Qing, Elena's mom, was busy making lunch. Jin Yingmo was inside her room, watching a drama. Jin Yinglu, Elena's dad, was sitting on the couch, looking at his phone. Just as Wang Qing poured all the ingredients for the final dish into the frying pan, the doorbell rang.

"Husband! Go check who is at the door."

Jin Yinglu put down his phone and stood up. "Did Yingmo order something online again?"

He walked over to the door and opened it.

"Dad?"
