Chapter 2: It’s Just Soup Fetus Stuff

What… in the flyin' hell was that about?!

A terminal was lifted off my face and I woke up in some sort of science-y soup-pod thing. The capsule lifted and I threw myself out but my head snapped back. Making short work of the cord I ripped it out and just stood there. Taking in my surroundings I was wet and cold in a dimly lit chamber with several pods like mine down two rows. The scent of dust and cigarette smoke was the first things to Grace my nose.

Wait.

Cigarette smoke?

Slowly turning my head to the woman in the room the dumbfounded woman dropped her cigarette. She wore green combat pants, a matching wife beater, bandanna and face paint. A smile started to form as the blonde reached back behind her and unsheathed a combat knife.

A gunner.

In the old world, it was statistically proven that knives bring about more reaction in a person than guns do. Backing up into the corner I put my hands out, caught off guard by all this,

"Whoa-whoa-whoa- just take it easy!"

She didn't listen, stepping forward and going for a stab. So what did I do? I reacted. It was like a one-two combo when I kicked her hand away and uppercut her. I got out of the corner I was in, liking my distance.

"I-I don't want any trouble!"

She spread her legs almost provocatively and dabbed her fingers in the blood coming from her nose. Focusing a glare on me she popped her neck and licked the blood off her fingers before getting up.

"Attack me again," I growled, "and it's no more Mr. Niceguy."

Stepping forward and swiping the knife at me I dodged back and stepped forward on the return swing. Just like my training, I didn't hesitate when I twisted her arm, and broke it with a palm to her elbow. Taking the knife, I tossed it back and gripped her by her neck and belt, lifting the malnourished woman over my head and slamming her into a pod next to me.

I didn't expect the fetus-like thing to come out of the pod and happen to flow in the yellowish soup juices towards me. Screaming again I leapt back, kicking the knife farther behind me as I panicked. All was still however after that and I watched the gunner as I picked up the knife.

I walked up and looked down at her. Her eye twitched, but she was unconscious. She was propped up on her head and neck as she slumbered. I could kill her, I could Mister Sandman her right now.

But I didn't.

I wouldn't.

Besides, it'd be boring since Fallout 4 doesn't offer bonus XP for Sandman kills.

"C'mon Robin, you can't just smoke a whole pack-"

The door to my left opened and a gunner walked in and his voice trailed off, "Captain… wants… ya."

He muttered a curse and reached for his 10mm. My knife hissed in my hands when I turned it into throwing position and launched it at the intruder. The blade went hilt deep into him, just like the training-

Wait-wait-wait I never had training. I still have no idea what's going on but it's obvious human diplomacy: grab a weapon and one man kills another before the other guys. I rushed over to the man, who with much effort put a hand weakly to the knife. Hitting the button I closed the door and then I pried the 10mm out of the dying man's fingers and fired into his temple.

The gunshot in a confined space got my ears ringing but after one more minute of soaking it all in. One minute after I killed a man, fought off a knife attack from Gunners in a dilapidated room with Vault-Tec simulation, embryo, pod-like things and scared myself to death I deduced that I wasn't home.

I guess I'm in Fallout.

I'm off to a good start I guess, less than thirty minutes and I survived two near death encounters with nothing but-

Wait a minute.

I looked at my body and it wasn't mine. I was shredded! I also only had on a soaked pair of lab rat speedos. No Vault suit just the speedo.

"Yeah," I laughed aloud, "nothing but my whits."

Then the door on the opposite side of the room opened. I aimed my "borrowed" 10mm at the doorway but nothing else moved. I just got here and all these pop ups are making me edgy.

"Senõr," a feminine & robotic voice murmured, "is that you?"

A shaky metal eye peeked around the corner and I lowered my gun. If I didn't know that eye belonged to a Ms. Nanny bot I would have thought it was one of those War of The Worlds probe things cuz why the hell not right? But I knew better so that's that.

"Are you my caretaker bot?"

"¡Sí! ¡Gracias Jesus Christo!"

"Please tell me you know English…"

"I do Senõr, do not worry." She whirred slowly through the doorway, "Do you feel any symptoms of probable explosive cell death?"

"Why in the hell should I feel that?!"

"No? Great, that's great. I have something!"

She scurried back the way she came and emerged with a jumpsuit in her claw. A Vault 75 suit. Fingering the texture in my hands I said, "Uh, thanks-"

"Esperanza, call me Esperanza."
