Chapter 109: True Magic.

Akane started panicking the moment her parents seemed to notice her, it was weird to say the least.

This was the first time she really did go against her mother and it was also the first time that she was at a loss for words.

"Go - Good morning, mother, mommy! I am a bit sweaty so let me shower for a bit."

With this she hoped that her parents would let her get away with things for at least a moment, she knew it was hopeless.

"Where do you think you are going little miss!"

Hearing this get shouted across the house Akane started to immediately leap up the stairs.

Her very angry mother had enough of this and immediately started to go after her, surprisingly catching up with her and grabbing her by the arm, but...

"ITAI !!!"

Akane immediately screamed out in pain. Hearing this scream, Fumio immediately let go of Akane, making her drop towards the ground, lightly putting her hand on the place her mother just grabbed onto.

"Akane, what happened."

Concerned about her daughter, Fumio reached towards Akane, but stopped right before touching her, she didn't want for her to scream out in pain again.

"Nothing! It's probably just me being stiff after spending the night outside. Don't worry about it."

Was the response she received, it was obvious that Fumio was getting just more and more suspicious and so she just started to strip her daughter of all the clothes she was currently wearing.

"Mo - Mommy! What are you doing, that's embarrassing, and you still haven't my consent for examining my body for any wounds."

Fumio just straight up looked her into the eyes one sentence.

"Do you not think that this is the least I deserve, thinking about all the things you do to yourself?"

Akane was surprised, 20 words. No more, no less. Thinking about what she said Akane couldn't really say something against it.

She was sure that her mother already noticed it, all the wounds she returned home with. Thinking about it, Akane realized how painful it had to be for her, to ignore the wounds on her daughter's body that appeared day after day.

Normally that would be irresponsible, but she probably found out that these wounds where the results of her ridiculous hard training. Akane smiled, knowing that her mother was willing to let her continue with that foolish thing.

After a while, all the clothes were off of her body, the only thing still covering her were the skin-colored bandages, wrapped all around her body.

"My cinnamon roll, could you also untie the bandages?"

Embarrassed about being asked this directly, Akane started blushing, but ultimately agreed to the demand.

Releasing the knot on her pinky, the bandages slowly started to unveil, revealing her perfectly developing body.

Upon the sight, Fumio was dazzles for one very simple reason. She saw her daughters bare skin on a regular basis, she saw how wound riddled it was each single time, she saw how sometimes a new one appeared, scar on scar.

But this time her nude body, showing each inch of her bare skin, was almost free from scars of any form, the only few scars left were the massive burn skin across her chest that seemed to fade and only a few dozens of small scars all across her body, in places were the scars started to stack dozens of times over each other.

Seeing her daughters almost scarless body surprised her to say the least.

Akane only stretched her tongue out and smiled.

"Hehe."

"What do you mean 'hehe'?"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a long and tedious session explaining her parents about her newfound abilities and her theories about it. (Which was, for all it's worth it, very short.)

The newfound information slowly started to set in their brains, mainly Fumio's.

"So, you want to tell me..."

"...that I found the secret to cast magic, yes."

Fumio started to clutch her forehead, that was a lot of information she had to take in.

"Look, before you say anything, asking me why I think it's not a quirk, let me show you something."

She activated her 'Soul Field' and before the two adults could react in any way, reality seemed to fade in and out before stopping again.

Suddenly reality seemed very different, everything that they saw around them just seemed silent and colored in black and white. Seeing this really baffled them.

"Akane, what did you do?"

Confused about the question, Akane just tilted her head, acting as if nothing happened.

"What I did? I did nothing until now, why are you asking? Did something happen?"

"Are you joking? The entire world is black and white! Can't you see it?"

Rumi yelled towards her, hearing this, Akane could picture what the big confusion was for her parents, she chuckled.

"Mother, I can't see anything."

Akane just answered patiently, making Rumi realize about her mistake, flustering a bit.

"But what you should see is what I currently hold between my two palms."

With that, Akane finally revealed the object she was clutching onto her chest, revealing a heart-shaped object, floating right above her palms, emitting a flame like energy, burning in a calming and relaxing manner.

"You might wonder what this is, but this is a soul. The culmination of our beings, memories and the record for our lives, essentially the very thing that can come close to truly showing us the difference between a civilized human and a wild animal."

It seemed like Akane wanted to say something, but suddenly she just paused and stared at her soul blankly.

"The flame around the soul is the mana it can emit, being the resource, you need to create some magic."

Suddenly the flame started to flicker, seemingly shrinking. Then she suddenly pointed at Rumi.

"Bang!"

And fired a green projectile at her. Surprised, see flinched at it and then tried to guard, but instead of a painful impact she felt a cooling feeling on her skin.

"Why did you block that? I just tried healing the mark around your neck!"

Rumi was surprised as she said that she looked towards Fumio, as if asking if there was really was a mark. Her noticing the gaze, just returned that question with a nod.

Akane just breathed out in exasperation and just walked towards her mother and healed the wound directly, she wasn't about to waste more of her Soul Energy when it took a long time for it to recover for her.

Meanwhile her parents were surprised seeing the marks on her neck slowly disappear.

"I am thankful and all for you healing me and all the talk about souls and magic is interesting, but what makes you think that this isn't a quirk."

"Yeah, there are many strange quirks after all, take 13 as an example. Her quirk is Black Hole, a phenomenon that is barely explainable on a sufficient level of physics with the current knowledge humanity has, and yet this phenomenon manifested inside a person and research about it skyrocketed for the creation of her hero suit and that isn't the only example of really peculiar quirks. Akane, having a reality-manipulating quirk like this wouldn't be far-fetched."

For a moment, the girl was silent, not knowing what to say, thinking about things. This was definitely not a quirk, not in a million years, but it would be classified as that if she revealed that ability of hers now to the public.

She couldn't afford that. She couldn't afford that magic would get mistaken as a quirk. This wasn't an individual thing she could learn, and she didn't want people praise her for this awesome power of hers.

Magic was something very difficult to gain, but other than quirks it wasn't something that is anchored to the genes, it was something that reached far deeper than that, it was a trait of the soul.

Her reputation aside, if magic were classified as a quirk, people would think that it would be an ability exclusive to hers and her family.

People would think that this wasn't something that can be learned, people would think that the world is unfair for giving an ability like that to hers so suddenly, some would even go so far to say that this ability was wasted on her.

And they would be wrong.

Magic can be learned, magic was obtainable by the masses, magic was something for the people, but if the people heard about this now, they would think that this delusional girl didn't know how a quirk worked.

They would scorn her for talking nonsense.

They would laugh at the girl that thinks that her quirk could be shared by multiple people at the same time.

They would make fun of the girl for her delusional fantasies.

"Akane? The air around you is a bit tense? I everything okay, did - did I say something wrong? Please say something again."

Hearing her mother's word again, Akane was pulled out of her thoughts again. Mulling over things like this wouldn't lead to an answer if she didn't do anything.

She needed people that she could trust and would believe in her theory, someone that had a wide reach and would be willing to experiment on hypothesis alone for her, someone that would keep silent about of this and use the gained knowledge for the weak that need it.

Suddenly a person like that appeared in her head.

Akane disbanded her Soul Field and suddenly everything had color again. Fumio and Rumi were surprised by this, but then Akane suddenly grabbed her mommies cheeks and looked her straight into the eyes.

"Mommy you trust me, right? I am going to be honest. I currently don't have any prove for this theory of mine, but you will believe me if I say that this isn't a quirk, right? You would believe me that this is magic, right? Please, just this once. Believe in me without a basis!"

Fumio was surprised by the girls reaction. This wasn't like her at all, even in her most panicked state did the girl have a calm and composed air around her, but now she was just outright panicking.

She was panicking without any sense of restraint. Fumio would have always trusted her daughter, even if she were speaking utter nonsense, but now that she saw her in such a state of panic, Fumio realized how important this was for her.

She was about to say to her daughter that she would trust her, but then she realized that something was different about her.

In particular her eyes.

Fumio grabbed the cheeks of her daughter back and looked her into the eyes, all Rumi could see now was how the mother - daughter pair was grabbing each other's checks, while looking each other in the eyes.

She didn't know what to think about this situation.

"Mo - mommy?"

Meanwhile, Akane was just confused by this action of her mother.

"Akane, why can I see my reflection in your eyes? And why do they seem to shine so brightly?"

Without realizing it, Akane seemed to have opened her eyes, still having her magic eyes activated on the strongest mode.

The moment she realized that Akane slowly started to blush very intensely. This was supposed to be a surprise for her mother.

A surprise for when it was a happy and unexpected occasion, but now that chance was gone.

Once again, Akane just stretched her tongue out.

"Well, it was supposed to be a surprise, but you sure are as pretty as I imagined you would be, mommy."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the way to school:

Akane was a bit exhausted.

What was she lying about? She was extremely exhausted after what happened the last days.

First her first day of high school, then the quirk apprehension test, after that was the battle trial, she broke down and vomited blood and lastly her new magic circuits, first spell, explaining to her parents and then asking if she is still not taken out of high school.

That all happened in the span of a week, four days to be exact.

Akane chuckled a bit, she remembered the awkward situation that happened just now...

(Flashback start)

"Enough about my magic and my eyes! What I want to know is, is if I can still put my school uniform on, or if I shouldn't bother with it!"

Fumio paused for a second after her daughter screamed that at her. Right, that argument was still ongoing, wasn't it.

"Tell me one reason why I shouldn't..."

"Geez, didn't I say it clear enough! I didn't get injured by that fighting session at school at all, all of that, even some other important visits to the hospital, they were because my body was going through my magical metamorphosis."

She turned silent for a moment, breathing out one long time.

"I understand that you don't want to see how I injure myself anymore, I understand that you had enough of me acting that recklessly about my body..."

Tears formed in the corner of Akanes eyes, her resolve was clearly set, but if her mother insisted on forbidding her this way, she would find an alternative for her.

"...but I have my magic now and you see how my body recovered because of it and I am sure I even scratched the surface of its potential yet, so please. Just give me this chance to prove myself."

Hearing and seeing this, Fumio felt like she couldn't refuse her daughters request, but remembering all of her injuries made her hesitate on that choice.

She couldn't let her daughter make herself suffer anymore, she just couldn't allow to let this continue, she had to stop her destructive path.

She was about to refuse her request when all of a sudden Fumio felt a cool sensation of her forehead.

She saw how Akane was touching her forehead with her index finger, green light coming out from it.

"Don't let unnecessary worry and stress cloud your judgement. Even if the next thing you will say to me isn't something I want to hear, I won't hate you for it. I understand that you can't entrust me to myself. I did some messed up things to my body after all."

Fumio felt how her head was slowly cleared from worry and started to feel refreshed. This girl just had to go ahead and insist on things that intensely, huh?

Akane felt and hand on her head, feeling this, she looked up the face of the person that decided to rest her hand on her head for a moment and was met with a soft smile by her mother.

"You little reckless daredevil just had to remind me how much of a lovely girl you are, don't you?"

She felt the hand rubbing on her head, feeling this familiar feeling, Akane couldn't help but smile and fidget a bit.

She accepted it, she accepted that she won't go to a hero department anymore. She was a bit far too reckless with herself, wasn't she.

Fumio sighed and stopped petting her head.

"Do what you want with all the heroics stuff, I don't care anymore!"

Hearing this, Akane mouth was just wide open, never in her life did she expect her mother to say she didn't care anymore about anything towards her.

"Just promise me that you don't get any more scars on that pretty body of yours."

(Flashback end)

Akane had to chuckle after thinking about that. That was more like her mother to deal with things.

Afterwards she had to prepare herself for school, that meant washing up, putting uniform on, and getting the necessary textbooks for the day ready.

For the first time in her life, Akane had the feeling that she was slightly unprepared for about anything at all.

"Sigh, maybe I should skip school? I am still considered a very sick girl since yesterday, aren't I?"

For the first time in her life did Akane feel that the week just couldn't pass for her any faster.
