Chapter 21: Family

"Kill him! Don't let him live, look at what he has done to us!"

A voice shouted out from the corner of the room.

Shortly after ten more followed all with similar suggestions for Wolf. He turned his gaze in the direction the voice was coming from and found the speakers. They were middle-aged men that were beaten until they were black and blue. All of them are tied up with steel chains and situated in a cage.

On the floor was a cracked bowl, but Wolf could see shards on the wooden floor inside their gaze.

"They are a bit loud."

Wolf said as he turned his attention back towards Arlong.

"They don't listen. I thought their spirits were broken, but it seems they were just playing. Tsk, should I just kill them?"

Arlong asked.

Wolf said nothing and walked over to them.

"Why?"

Wolf asked as he stood in front of the cage.

"Why? Why what?"

A man asked in confusion as he did not understand what Wolf was saying.

"Why should I kill him?"

Hearing this, the man clicked his tongue. Did he need to explain why? The reason was obvious enough.

"Look at what he has done to us? To our village! You think he deserves to live after all of this? And, aren't you here to save us?"

The man sounded confident in thinking that Wolf was some sort of bounty hunter. A necessary evil that was used to catch pirates in return for a large sum of money. They were the marine's dog's, and he saw them as nothing more.

"What did you expect to happen? He is a pirate, if he wants to raid why can't he? If he wants to kill, why can't he? What pirate do you know helps people for the greater good? Besides, you're falsely mistaken. I never came here to save you, I'm here to find someone."

As Wolf said that, he turned his attention away from the men inside the cage. His eyes started to wander around the building searching for someone. But then he recalled something and moved in the direction Arlong was.

"Hey. You came here in hopes of curing your friend yes? What happened with that?"

Wolf asked.

Arlong looked at Wolf for a moment questioning how he even knew about that, but did not directly ask him. Instead, he shook his head.

"He died. The old lady kept refusing and his situation got worse."

"And where is she?"

"Dead."

Wolf was silent for a moment. He came to this island in order to find out about Angel, yet it seems that would not be the case. The most likely person to know of him was dead. Wolf wanted to blame Arlong for this, but he couldn't.

"How?"

Arlong shrugged his shoulders as he winced in pain from his wounds.

"Not sure. She said the reason she could not cure anyone was because she was ill. I figured it was because she did not want to treat one of our race. However, five days ago she fell asleep and never woke up."

Arlong explained.

Wolf nodded.

"Anyone here knows the name Angel?"

Wolf asked loudly as he turned his body away from Arlong.

The room was silent as the villagers tried hard to recall that name. Yet, none of them did. To them that name was not anything special.

That was how they all reacted, except one. Wolf spotted a young girl with short black wavy hair and fair skin. Her eyes grew big upon hearing the name Angel, but she quickly changed her facial expression trying to hide something.

She would have hid it well if not for the fact that Wolf was paying close attention to detail to everyone.

He quickly appeared in front of her. Her fact was dirty with dust, but she was still decent-looking.

He lifted her chin up and looked into her dark-green eyes. She tried to turn away, but could not under Wolf's strength.

"What's your name child?"

Wolf asked.

"Hey! Leave her alone."

Voices from the villages started to shout at Wolf cursing him and telling him off. Yet he paid none of it any attention. His main focus was on her. Besides, his crew started to deal with the townsfolk after they finished off Arlong's crew members.

Although his crew was wounded, none of them were dead. Except the three outside, Buggy dealt massive damage to them and one look was enough to know their fate. The rest however were injured, but not dead. Arlong included.

"A-Alvida…"

The young girl stuttered.

"I'm Wolf, Alvida and I want to ask you a question. Do you know Angel?"

Alvida debated her options then nodded her head.

"Grandmother said he is my older brother."

Wolf furrowed his eyebrows. This was news to him. From what he knew about Angel, he did not talk about any siblings.

Seeing Wolf's expression Alvida was scared. She knew he did not believe her.

"It's true! We have different fathers but the same mother. His father was a gangster and took him away from the village when he was young. That is all I know!"

Alvida hurriedly and told him.

Wolf recalled Angel telling them that his father was the worst scum on earth. Angel's father used him for all types of scams until one day he got killed. Angel never knew his mother and with his father dead, he was left alone. That was how he became an orphan.

It was not long after that, that Angel ended up meeting Ross then Wolf.

Wolf let her go but then saw something glittering under her shirt. He reached for it and grabbed the silver necklace around her neck. That is when he spotted a locket. Similar to the one Angel had as a kid and cried about for days when it was taken from him.

"So, it is true."

Wolf said as he grinned.

Wolf looked over to Kuro.

"He's coming with us, and we are taking her along too. Get what we need, then let's leave this place."

Kuro nodded, but Arlong did not agree.

"What about them? You want me to ditch my own family for yours?"

Arlong asked.

"Don't you have a ship of your own? Put someone in charge of it and have them follow us. You're the only one that's coming up on my ship, the rest can do what they want."

Arlong felt this was unreasonable.

"If you don't like it, that is your problem. Don't forget the reason you're still alive."
