Chapter 12: Overlord
In just a month; Sekani defeated ten village chiefs and obtained their necklace as proof. Many did not expect that the boy, who was from Walami tribe would succeed, but he was now traveling back to Akhfurmeru village to battle the ruler.
On the road alone, he remembered the fights he had; a few were easy, but he had difficulties with others, specially those who have very weird magic combinations like poison and some other sneaky skills. From almost impregnable defense, powerful casters and an archer using invisible arrows was his hardest fight.
He concluded that the Ebonians are capable and skillful people, but they did not have a concrete goal dragging their expansion and progress, they have great thinkers and smart people but their tradition suppress those who have abilities like them to make their tribe progress.
"My solution is to change the system." Sekani said to himself with determination.
It was a very good experience for him, and he can confidently say that he was now adept with the use of his skills.
Akhfurmeru
Arriving at the village was like new year and almost all people was in the arena waiting for the two warriors to appear, the people was loud and it just quieted down after hearing a loud voice. "Ladies and gentlemen, we are here gathered today to witness again our ruler Lion versus the wolf of Walami, buy your beer and let us enjoy this joyous moment."
The beer flooded the arena, and it benefited the merchants and the government. It was extra income, and all was excited not bothering their expenses. It was a monumental occation for everyone, and they could not wait.
The arena was simple stone and marble structures, this was this sacred arena for challenging rulers, many have died in this arena but legends of warriors was born from this arena. The past kings of the Ebon tribe was sculpted around the arena to commemorate their strength.
The two entered with their choice of weapon; Khalid was on his double kopesh sword while Sekani was on his usual single kopesh and some daggers in his waist.
The dry ground was golden from the high sun's illumination while the air was humid, but it did not keep the people from gathering. The shouting and stomping of the feet reverberated in the arena. "Ebon people, I the ruler this land shall give you a great show." The statement elated more the viewers and the shouting and chanting grew louder.
"Sekani", "Khalid" the crowd shouted while the two of them walked slowly to the center and met a few meters from each other.
"Warrior boy, I hope you will not surrender till the end. If you do, I will chop your body and send it to your village." Khalid said while pointing one of his huge sword and his body exude with killing intent while smiling.
Sekani did not speak but just activated his aura, but just after he was getting ready, Khalid charged swiftly like a bull. It was so quick that Sekani was almost beheaded with that sudden attack. Shrouded with protection from black flame, his sword parried the attacks showing clearly that he can match the strength of Khalid.
"Cheeky boy, DIE." A single swing with the double sword came from above like a meteor; Sekani sneered, but he swing his sword to divert the attack and countered attack with killing intent. Khalid noticed that he could not dodge and enhanced his soul energy on his chest; blocking the incoming attack.
The attack bounced back like nothing and it made Khalid smiled. Without warning his aura burst into a few meters engulfing both of them, and Sekani felt it but like instinct he also activated his own to deflecting the enemies' aura. "So you also have aura, HAHAHA." A crazy laughed got out from Khalid after discovering that his aura was deflected. He was so excited that his body was twitching uncontrollably from excitement.
Khalid charged up his soul energy and shrouded his body and weapon with bright red energy then he brandished his sword and cut through the air creating fire projectiles. Sekani was amazed of what Khalid did to his energy and was excited, but he remembered he was in a fight. "Shit." with panic he launched ice projectiles to protect himself.
It made an explosion as the projectiles made contact, creating dust, smoke, and even cold smoke blinding them both of their vision. And from within Khalid emerged with fearsome expression brandishing his flaming sword.
"Ahhhhh." with a deafening roar; Khalid shouted while he attacked and it momentarily distracted Sekani. He evaded and blocked the first sword but other one penetrated and it was too late; even thought he transferred some of his energy to the spot where he was going to be hit it still injured him.
Sekani stumbled to the ground but quickly stood up half kneeled and readied for another attack but it did not come; he panted with a huge wound in his chest but it did not damage any critical organs.
"Boy, I am just getting started." Khalid Licked the blood from his sword morbidly and stared with his eyes like a demon.
The crowd got wild again from that very exciting exchange.
Sekani, who was half kneeling to the ground with open wound in the chest panted as he stared at Khalid. "Hahahahaha. You think you won?" Khalid and the crowd thought Sekani would be in despair now but it was the opposite. As he stood up, his flame tattoo glowed and covered the wound.
He walked slowly with his wound rapidly healing with the help of the black fire. It was the upgraded ability of 'Flame Leech'; which it could not only absorb soul energy but also use it to repair damages in the body using the stored energies from the past fights.
The crowd gasped as they saw with their naked eye how fast the recovery was. "A dragonkin" One man's voice echoed in the silent arena. Khalid who was also shocked smiled and laughed loudly. "Hahahahaha. This is a glorious day. My people I will show you how I Khalid son of Hedjatep shall defeat this dragonkin and drink his blood."
Khalid who was drowned in his dreams and misunderstanding stared Sekani like a wolf finding a lost sheep. After the blatant announcement the crowd got wild again after their long silence, and the arena shook while they stomped their feet and chanted their names.
Khalid who was just playing before now used all his soul energy to finish the battle and claim his precious price but when he attacked with full power, his swords broke with just a single parry then he spat a mouthful of blood without knowing what hit him.
Khalid looked at Sekani and tried to grab him but his vision blurred then he stumbled into the ground unconscious and the crowd was stupefied; they did not even know what happened but the battle just ended in an anti-climactic manner.
Khalid was hit by a very powerful blow in his right abdomen causing him to lose consciousness.
Sekani stood proud beside the huge body of Khalid, after panting for a moment he calmed himself and lifted his sword and roared into the sky like a warrior, then the crowd was also elated and shouted his name.
"SILENCE" A man shouted on the crowd and it made the crowd halt again. The man who was the special aide to the ruler jumped to the main arena and walked towards Sekani. The crowd was expecting something to happen but after nearing; the man kneeled with one knee and paid respect to Sekani. "I pay respect to the new ruler."
When the man knelt in front of Sekani all the people snapped out from their excitement and remembered that they have now a new ruler; the crowd gradually knelt and gave their respect.
"People of Ebon, my people stand and let us celebrate." After saying that ,they again chanted his name.
That day Sekani became a legend, and rumors spread that he was a decendant of a dragon because of his crazy regenerative abilities.

Inside the throne room all the village chief was gathered for the supposed celebration, but they meet first to see the new ruler.
Murmurs was and whispering echoed in the room while they waited for Sekani who was in the back checking the rules and regulations of the tribe. Then he entered after familiarizing with it.
He felt awkward sitting in the throne but he must endure for now because it was temporary. "From today onwards, I will re-organize the system and rules of the tribe, anyone who oppose can challenge me in the arena anytime." The village chief was surprised of the announcement, and they listen closely without a word.
"The rules will be laid slowly so there will be no exact changes to the system for now but first.." Sekani explained and look at them with serious voice. "All ties with the north and south will be severed, aside from the usual trade. Anyone who will be seen dealing with them without my permission will be severely punished."
Some elders gasped while the others were indignant. "Chief Sekani, I have something to say." an old man stood up to raise his query and Sekani just gestured for him to continue. "Some elders here have their daughters betrothed to some officials in the north, and some sons working for them. It will be dangerous for them if this news got out." The old man said, and the others also nodded and quite worried about their family.
"Retrieve them back as soon as possible if you wish or let them be if they did not wish to get back. No matter what my first command will not change." Some village chief frowned by Sekani's words, but it was their Rulers command.
"Second, we will stop attacks and bullying to other tribes, anyone who commits this crime will also be punished severely."
"Third, we will adapt trade systems to other tribes to help stabilize the economy."
"Fourth, my new title will become overlord of Ebon and all chiefs will become lord of their land while Khalid will become a lord also as my second in command and will temporarily sit in the throne while I am away, so remind him after he wakes up." The last sentences confused them somehow and one elder braved to ask.
"Overlord, If I may ask, where will you venture?" The others were also curious, so they waited for the answer.
"To the Bakari tribe."
