Chapter 1: Chapter 1: The Dawn of Truth
"How are you feeling?" my brother asks when I open my eyes. There are both expressions of relief and worry plastered on his face.
I find him sitting next to my bed and taking a sip of his newly brewed coffee.
I groan when I try to roll to my side. Impulsively, Rob stops me from doing so.
"Hey~ easy!" he says while adjusting my bed, so my head is elevated.
"Do you want something?" he asks. I shake my head.
"I feel a bit nauseated!" I reply softly while hydrating my dry throat with my bitter saliva.
Remembering what happened, tears flow freely from my eyes as I stare blankly at the ceiling.
"Hey~ don't strain yourself. We are doing our best to dig deeper," he consoles. I give him a questioning look.
"What is going on? What else do they need from me?" I mumble.
"Mom!" I hear my sons' voices as they run coming to me.
"Are you okay?" Mon asks while wiping my tears.
"We thought we'd lost you!" Leo says, tightly gripping my hand. I just weep silently while looking at my sons.
"Don't worry. I'm fine!" I reply.
"What happened?"
"Is it true?..... Sophia~"
They ask while looking at my brother and me. Rob sighs.
"Can you give us a moment?" I say.
"But~" Mon protests.
"We have the right to know! Are you keeping a family secret again?" Leo exclaims.
"I have to discuss things with your mom first!" Rob scolds.
My boys hesitantly leave the room to give us some privacy.
"Where is she?" I ask wryly.
Despite the weakness of my voice, my brother can still hear the suppressed anger and disbelief.
"Sophia is spending her time in custody~"
"I wanna see her!"
"You can't. It's still dangerous. We are convinced that she was not acting alone."
Our conversation is interrupted by the opening of the door. Then, Jason comes in attended by a nurse.
"What? Why are you~?"
"I am safe here. You can go now!" Jason tells the nurse who hesitantly nods. I roll my eyes on the apparent attraction that she has for our younger brother.
"Whoa! Your charm doesn't care about the place, huh!" I comment.
"They see it as a blessing, but it feels more of a curse!" Rob simpers. Jason agrees. They even share a fist bump. I roll my eyes at them.
"Anyway... why are you here? Are you hurt?" I ask worriedly at Jason.
"You lost a lot of blood. Luckily, he's a match--- an AB type," Rob explains answering my question.
Jason sits beside Rob. And stares at me. And casually gets the cup of coffee from Rob's hand and takes a sip.
"Your taste is really amazing! Always on point," Jason comments on the coffee. Rob just smiles at his words. Then, he looks at me.
"Thank me later. You must live since I donated my precious blood to you," he says. Despite his sarcasm, worry is still evident in his voice.
Rob laughs at his statement. I smirk.
"Thanks. Never thought I could use you this way~"
"What?! Use?!"
I chuckle. Rob shakes his head.
"How could you be so devious and heartless?!" he yells. I grin.
"One moment~," Rob says before answering a call.
"Are you certain?" he asks in a serious tone. Then, he looks at Jason and me.
"Keep digging. Stay low key as much as possible," he orders. Then, he ends the call.
"What was that?" Jason asks.
"Your--- Uhm... our suspicion is correct after all!" Rob answers.
"What are you saying?!" I ask.
"This is not the right time. I can handle this one. Take a good rest and be back on your feet soon," he replies which frustrates me.
"But... the longer you keep it from me, the more I feel so uneasy. Please~" I plea. He stares at me and then Jason.
"Are you sure you want to know now?"
I nod.
He keeps quiet for a while.
"Alright. What do you want to know?"
"Everything! I want to know~ everything."
"Jason~"
"No. I wanna hear it, too."
"But..."
"I already have a hunch, but I want to hear it. I want confirmation!"
Rob stays quiet, weighing whether to spill the beans or not.
"Okay. Jason... do you remember the time when you suddenly traveled to Isla del Fuego?"
"Hah! Of course... how can I ever forget it? Thanks to you I was able to experience VIP treatments," Jason exclaims.
We smile.
"Good to know you enjoyed it," I reply.
"What about it?" he asks.
Rob looks at me for approval. I nod.
"We suspected a mole in the mansion. The night before your flight. I received a text from an unknown number threatening me and Merideth." Rob explains while scrolling his phone.
Jason's face turns pale as he stares at the text on Rob's phone.
"The fruit has ripened! The mighty Spencers will crumble to the ground one by one. Seeing you having fun with your long lost brother, fuels my desire to kill you all! Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. XD" Below it is a picture of Jason and I laughing at the veranda.
"That's~ I am sure! He~ Fuck!" Jason screams.
"Calm down, Jason. Don't waste your energy on this. There's a stronger storm coming, so pull yourself together!" Rob says while gripping Jason's shoulders tight.
"Is it not enough? Torturing me every single time--- is not enough?!" he growls.
Rob and I are dumbfounded by his revelation. Certainly, we haven't known anything about this.
"What are you saying?" I ask.
"When I was little, I kept asking myself why my parents had shown no affection towards me! They tortured me--- even with the slightest mistake I made. I lived in fear. I even tried to end my life--- to end the suffering that I constantly endure!"
"Oh my god! I am so sorry. Had we known sooner..." I cry. Rob clenches his fists in fury.
"No. Thank you for saving my life. I think the deities made us meet that day!"
I jolt when he kicks the chair in front of him and breaks the vase on the floor. Nurses and doctors come rushing to my room and are flustered by the mess.
"Get out!" Rob yells at them. They immediately get out.
