Chapter 28: Completely Different Person!

Aranea was nervous. It was her first time fighting Leonel without her weapon.

Honestly, she doesn't feel confident about the arrangement. Without her bow and arrow, she could not set the attacks she wanted to execute.

But Leonel is also teaching her a good point, and that is never to back down to an enemy even without weapons.

Leonel played with his spear in front of her. He flaunted it by jabbing it to the air, letting the blade whistle in the wind.

He smiled at her, intimidating Aranea further by acrobatically spinning his weapon on one hand.

"We haven't got all day!" Leonel taunted her with an irritating smile.

Aranea lifted up her fisted hands, covering the sides of her face. She began to slowly bounce at her position, trying to ready her legs for the great effort ahead.

Landing a blow on someone that has a ranged weapon is hard but not close to impossible. All she has to do is to be quick on her feet so she can be as close to her opponent as possible.

'Be close to Leonel? How?'

Her mind blanked at the thought and question herself for being mildly curious about a guy she just met a day before.

"Hey!" Leonel called her out, "I'm getting sleepy here." He yawned.

Just so as Leonel closed his eyes to yawn, Aranea went ahead and made the first step. She thrusted her right foot forward ready to charge at the unsuspecting familiar.

Unfortunately for her, it was a blunder that Leonel baited her from the start.

As she charged towards him, the sly familiar thrust his spear to the ground, inches away from her foot. The attack got her tumbling back down.

"Oops! My hand slipped!" Leonel smugly said, "I am sorry about that Aranea, I should've been more careful."

The last comment got to Aranea's nerves. Suddenly, the faint worry she felt from her familiar fleeted and a strong urge to punch him in the face surfaced.

She encircled around him. She tried her best to find the best openings she could find. She was hoping that there was an angle with a weak guard where she could try and penetrate—but alas, there was none.

Leonel had made a tightly knitted defense. He held his spear diagonally and close to his body, a perfect defense for a close combatant.

His movement synchronized with hers. Slowly cross steps, like a tiger waiting to pounce on its prey. It was an annoying imitation of her movement.

"Of course, he is like water," she thought as she continued her fruitless waltz with Leonel.

She tried to look for ways to penetrate the impregnable defense, but she can't find her way in.

With every simulation she had on her head, she ended up being hit. Aranea never wanted that to happen. Not in front of her familiar. Not in front of anyone.

Her pride slowly surfaced and revealed its ugly visage.

"I am getting dizzy over this!" Leonel complained, "I know! I got an idea, Aranea! Let me—"

Before even finishing his sentence, the sly familiar went on the offensive. Jabbing the spear towards his spaced-out mistress, Leonel aimed directly for her exposed body.

"Are you trying to kill me?!" The surprised Aranea exclaimed in horror.

"Only if you let me."

Leonel answered blandly as his disinterest grew the longer the fight went.

That was the last straw for Aranea. Her temper finally overflowed, and without any second thoughts, she stepped in.

At this point, it was useless for her to think of a strategy, not with this level of skill her opponent has.

She stepped in and went for the first punch to the smug familiar's face. Leonel caught it by the pole of his spear, deflecting the blow like it was nothing.

But she never lost heart. She stepped once again and threw an overhead punch; however, Leonel was already anticipating it.

Before she could hit him, the cunning familiar swung his spear while evading the punch. The spear almost hit Aranea, but she was able to flip over it and evaded the devastating strike.

While mid-air, she rolled her body forward giving her a good momentum for a head-splitting elbow attack.

But her efforts remained in vain, as Leonel was able to deflect her elbow attack by deflecting it with the pole.

She dropped to the ground on all fours and decided to do a sweep on her opponent. But he was able to jump over the attack.

He back-flipped away from her and kept his distance, Aranea already huffing in fatigue over the wasted attacks she did.

'Damn it! I think I can't take him on!'

Just as she thought that hope was eluding her from winning, she finally saw an opportunity.

Right behind Leonel was the tree where she placed her bow and arrow. Not to look obvious, Aranea immediately went for another attack.

She threw herself into the spears range and was barely able to dodge the thrust from Leonel. Aranea was determined to make her familiar feel her fury.

Using her momentum, she weaved closer to him. With only a few inches away from the spear's edge, she made an effort to let Leonel feel comfortable with her movement.

Once he did, then, she will initiate her final attack.

After one missed kick, she was finally close to her weapon and as bonus, Leonel didn't realize it.

She quickly ducked over his defenses and rolled forward towards her weapon.

"What!?"

Seeing her familiar's surprised look, made her want to kick his ass more.

After finally acquiring her bow and arrow, she immediately pirouetted back to him, while she quickly set her bow and arrow on him.

And by one single breath, she released her first arrow, barely missing Leonel's cheek by an inch.

She smiled as her familiar looked annoyed with her desperate move.

"Now, time to get serious!" She exclaimed excitedly.

The familiar glanced back at the arrow lodged in the ground and looked back at her as he nodded in agreement.

"I think we do."

Just as Aranea tried to aim at her target, a huge wall of water appeared out from the air. It was slowly covering her target, Leonel.

As the water slowly encircled her familiar, she could see him glaring at her with his piercing deep eyes as Leonel began to chant:

"He who reigns the waters of Ravaya, I call upon thee. May your waters cleanse the impurity of this land and release the world from its bondage! I call upon thee, the dragon who drowns the world!"

"W-what's going on?"

Aranea asked as her jaw dropped on the sight of the swirling waters surrounding him becoming more violent.

"He's like doing an awakening!" Elenea shouted from the distance, "Get out of there!"

Aranea tried to, but her knees weakened at the sight of such a majestic release. She stood still as the walls gradually took the shape of dragons, the twins' eyes almost popping out of its sockets as their jaws fell on the floor.

"He just held his spear and he turned into a completely different person!"

When Aranea shouted out loud, Leonel stared straight into his Summoner's eyes.

"Devour my foes! Water Dragons!"

Leonel ended his chant with the release of his tremendous power.
