Chapter 11: Sentence

697 B.C - Asgard: Asera's Cell

It had been a days since Asera had been sent to the dungeon. The goddess mostly slept the time away. She had noticed that the longer she went with her magic sealed, the more tired she was. It was as if something that kept her alive was no longer there.

She was broken out of her musings when she heard footsteps coming towards the dungeon. She looked from her bed, outside of the cell she saw that Frigga had come to see her. Asera simply watched her approach, assuming she had come to gloat that the last remnant of her mother had been sentenced to jail.

Asera watched as Frigga stepped into the cell, her magic returning for the briefest of moments, making her smile slightly. Frigga however, mistook that smile for Asera being happy to see her, and smiled in return.

"Hello Asera," Frigga said in a soft voice, "I'm sorry I couldn't visit sooner, but Odin wanted you to think about what you had done for a while before allowing me to visit."

Then, the woman reached into a bag she had brought, bringing out a book for the girl. "I brought you a book, thinking you had to be rather bored down here. "

She set it down on the table next to her bed.

"If you want, I could stay and keep you company," Frigga said, looking somewhat nervous about the answer. Frigga said this because she felt that now that her daughter couldn't avoid her, maybe she could repair their relationship, even if she never did any wrong to the child in the first place.

Asera shrugged her shoulders, "Do as you wish." Then, the goddess grabbed the book, laying down back on the bed, but leaving room for Frigga if she chose to join her; surprising Frigga with the action.

The mother smiled slightly, taking a second book out of her bag and laying next to Asera, and the two began reading silently next to one another. Asera tried not to smile, realizing that Frigga might not be the monster she had made her out to be in her mind. Frigga smiled because she felt she was finally bonding with her daughter, even if she wasn't technically 'her' daughter.

698 B.C - Asgard: Asera's Cell

It had been a few more weeks since Asera had first been imprisoned, and Frigga had continued to visit Asera every day. The two would simply read in silence, enjoying each other's presence, even if Asera wouldn't admit it.

Asera's condition had worsened over the weeks that she had been stuck inside the prison. The goddess would often trail off, staring into the distance and hours would pass without the girl knowing. She couldn't stay awake for more than a few hours everyday, and every time she ate something, the girl simply vomited it back up.

Frigga had only noticed Asera not really staying up all that long. She had thought her staring off into her book was just her reading, not noticing that she hadn't been turning the pages. Frigga also had never seen Asera vomiting her food either.

Frigga had brought up how much Asera was sleeping to Odin, but he simply shook it off, saying that she was simply trying to sleep out her sentence. Frigga still held onto her worries, thinking Odin had simply been being dismissive.

Asera was currently reading alone, Frigga hadn't stopped by that day, so she had no one to talk to, even if they didn't talk to much, besides some small talk before they both got entranced by their books.

Then, Asera heard a voice that she knew she had heard before, but couldn't place. "You earned yourself a slow death, huh."

Asera shot up, getting light headed from moving that fast in her weakened state. Then, when her blurry vision cleared, she saw the Janitor from Circe's island standing there, still wearing the same robes she had seen on him back then.

Asera had very many questions. So, she just started asking them as quick as she could. "Where did you come from? Who are you? What do you mean a 'slow death?'"

The old janitor chuckled, telling the young girl to slow down. "Calm yourself, Time. 'She' asked me to come check on you, so I thought I would do her the favor. Though, she should be glad I did, I'd say you only have a few weeks left, tops."

Asera shook her head in confusion. "Okay, the more you talk, the more worried and confused I am. First off, don't play the gods damned Pronoun Game with me. Who is 'She?' Why do I have so little time left"

"Well, I can't answer your first question. After all, that would spoil it for the lovely readers. For your second question, your body isn't a physical thing. Your body is pure condensed magic. You've been under these strong magic blocking wards for so long you've begun fading."

Asera looked at the man as if he was stupid. "How can I be a pure magical construct if I still take physical damage. I ran into bandits during my time in Midgard and there normal weapons still hurt me."

"Well, that's simply because the magic making you up is so dense, your body acts as if it was the real thing. Though, if someone attacked you currently, it would probably go straight through you."

The janitor chuckled slightly, before getting a look of realization on his face. "OH! Well, I'll see you later little Time. I just had a great idea of what to use the favor for. I'll see you later, or not. You might have faded by the time I get back."

Asera shouted for the man to wait, but he was already gone before she even realized what he was saying.

Asera stood still in the middle of her cell, not really knowing how to process what the janitor had just told her.

Then, the girl heard footsteps coming, and saw Frigga enter her cell with a few new books.

Frigga had concern written over her face as she saw her daughter standing there like that. "Asera, are you okay?"

Asera put on a fake smile, "Of course Frigga, I'm just thinking."

She chuckled to herself a bit, before grabbing a book and sitting on her bed with her mother.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Khiione Khiione

I hope this chapter is better than the last.

Anyway, I wrote this chapter mainly to show how Asera being locked in jail had helped her and Frigga's relationship. But, I also wanted to progress the main plot along a bit, so there is some of that in here too.

I hope you enjoyed.

Creation is hard, cheer me up!
