Chapter 17: Kiss under the Moonlight
As days passed in a blink of an eye, David drove Lukas and Mika to the hospital. Tomorrow will be Lukas' chemotherapy treatment as the doctor will try to destroy as many cancer cells as possible. He will need to stay at the hospital for the time being.
Mika will also need to prepare on her side to make sure she will be ready to help Lukas whenever the doctor asked. Since she's done the test before for bone marrow donation, they just needed to double check her health status since she cannot donate if she was pregnant.
Before helping out Lukas, Mika was already on the list for bone marrow donation since she saved her father from blood cancer. It was a miracle since it was quite hard to find a match. Mika was grateful her father had a second chance at life.
After Mika finished checking, she went with Lukas to see Dr. Karl. After a while, he asked a nurse to bring Lukas to the VIP room. Lukas' condition was not too well so Dr. Karl asked him to stay for observation. Mika waited outside until Lukas finished changing into his hospital pajamas. She called her parents and updated her situation since both of her parents were on vacations. They don't seem too surprised and told Mika to take care of Lukas.
Looks like they accepted him, she thought. Lukas opened the door and Mika turned around, "You're finished? You look handsome with these pajamas too. My husband is just too handsome." She smiled and embraced him. Lukas hugged her so tight she can barely breathe, "Lukas, I can't breathe... you're hugging me too tight." Lukas loosened up, "I'm sorry, I thought you left." Mika giggled, "Silly, why would I leave you? I told you I will wait for you."
"Don't ever leave me... "Lukas embraced her one more time while David turned around and pretended he never saw anything.
"David! You came!" Lukas looked in front of him and Mika turned around, "Eh?!! You saw everything, David?" David slightly nodded and cleared his throat.
"Oh... yeah uhm.. continue what you are doing. I'll be back..." David went away again.
"There he goes again..." Mika sighed.
Lukas made Mika look into his eyes, "Mika, let's go in." When they went into their room, they can finally have their own private time together. She sat beside Lukas and held his hand, "Everything will go well. You can do it!" He gently smiled at her and nodded. Lukas laid his head on her shoulder, "Stay like this for a while, don't move." Mika tried to wake up Lukas, "Lukas, sleep on the bed..." But Lukas didn't reply, "Don't move. Let me sleep, it's feels better like this than the bed."
Mika was confused, "Huh? What kind of logic is that?" Mika tried to wake him up but it was useless. She waited for a while then helped Lukas back to his bed, "You're gonna get sick if you sleep like this any longer."
"Finally..." Mika looked at Lukas' sleepy face and traced his forehead to his chin. She enjoys doing this to him whenever he sleeps and looking at his handsome face.
Few moments later, Dr. Karl came in and asked Mika to come outside.
"We're starting second round of chemotherapy tomorrow. We'll keep him under observation. Do you wish to stay overnight with him?" He asked Mika and she nodded, of course.
Dr. Karl asked the nurse to bring Mika a pillow and blanket. She thanked the nurse and also thanked the doctor, "I'll leave his treatment in your hand then." Mika bowed and went into the room.
Later in the evening, she received a phone from Katy.
"Katy, what are you up to? How's school so far?" Mika asked her since she haven't talked to Katy for a while.
"I'm fine. I'll come back to Shanghai tomorrow since school is over for me. How's my brother?" She asked worriedly.
"He's fine. He's at the hospital with me. He's getting chemotherapy treatment tomorrow. I'll stay with him as long as he needs me." Mika reassured Katy, "Everything will be fine. Do you have time to visit him tomorrow?" Katy replied quickly, "I'll see you at the hospital then." They said their farewell to each other and Mika hung up.
Later in the evening, after they finished their dinner. Mika took Lukas out for a walk. The sun was setting and they sat on the park bench beside the hospital.
"Are you cold?" Mika asked Lukas. He shook his head, "Are you cold?" Mika also shook her head.
"Summer evening is great. At least the sun won't kill us unlike during the mid-day." Mika was grateful because she gets sunburn really easily.
"That's true, the breeze feels nice too." Lukas looked up in the sky and another day passed.
They talked about their past and some other random topics as well.
"Did you ever have a first love?" Mika was shocked Lukas asked that question, "Why did you ask that?"
"Just curious." He replied. Mika thought about it and nodded, "I did when I was in high school but we never dated. He liked another girl and yeah, i gave up finding another guy after that. It's all in the past, if he appears in front of me again. I'll ignore him because I already have you." Mika looked at Lukas and smiled, "How about you? Do you have any first love before?"
Lukas nodded, "I did. She was sweet and pretty. That girl was my first love. But, she never recognized me because she had to move away." Lukas chuckled, "But, that's the past. I'll focus what's in front of me." Mika nodded, "So, I'm not your first love. Cool as a cucumber. It's okay, I'm not jealous. It's normal for a handsome guy like you to have a first love."
When Mika turned her head out of jealousy, Lukas hugged Mika, "Silly, you don't remember me from childhood? I'm your dad's student, he used to teach me a lot of school subjects. Your memory capacity is the same as a goldfish it seems." Lukas teased her. Mika looked at Lukas weirdly, "SInce when did we know each other?" Lukas smiled devilishly, "I recognized you the first time when you went on my car. But, you've forgotten about me. You were the one who told me to smile often. I knew at that time, it has to be you."
Mika was shocked and speechless, "Why didn't you tell me earlier? Dang, I'm mad now." Mika was going to walk away when Lukas suddenly gave her a back hug, "I've never forgotten about you. About the things I did in the past, I will make it up. It's okay if you don't like me but please don't leave me." Mika held his hands and while the breeze blew her hair in front of her, she smiled and said, "Who said I'll leave you, I don't remember much about you but I'm glad you told me that."
As the night approaches, moonlight shown on them when they were embracing each other face to face.
Lukas kissed Mika softly and a lot more gently, "I love you, Mika."
"I love you, too." Mika answered and continued kissing him.
As they kissed under the moonlight, Mika and Lukas both felt like it was only them in the world. The quietness that surrounded them made it even more special for them.
