Chapter 2: "Hunter and the Nephilims"

After a couple of minutes, Marces made it out of the forest. A man spotted him. He quickly gets off from his horse and helps Marces.

"You... what happened to you?" he asked.

Marces can barely speak. "I.... n-need..." then he falls down on the ground and is unconscious.

The man noticed the bite on his neck. He comes up with a thought that he could have been bitten by a Nephilim. He swings his axe and plans of killing him. However, the man is smart enough to realize that Marces is not showing any symptoms. And in fact, if someone was bitten by a Nephilim, it would gain enormous energy for a brief period of time instead of fainting. However, Marces' case is different. He carried his body and took him on his horse.

After almost an hour, Marces woke up from being unconscious. They are resting beneath a tree. It is in the middle of the day, the sun's heat is scorching the land. He realized that his neck has a bandage. He gets up and faces the man.

"Who are you? Where are we?" asked Marces.

"Shouldn't you be thanking me first? You fainted at the forest. Since there are numerous Nephilims wandering around, I carried you and took you here." he answered.

"I am sorry. So many things have happened this day. My village, my father is dead."

"Enough with that. I'm not here to listen to another dramatic story. By the way, I'm Deikher Collins. You have had a bite on your neck a while ago, and now it's gone. How is that possible? Who bit you, no, wrong question. What bit you?"

"A strange guy had bitten on my neck. He's been eating a dead body of a man. But then, he ran after me and bit me." Marces answered.

"How did you survive?"

"Two cougars bit him as well. Then, I ran. After that, I really cannot remember."

"Can you describe that guy who had bitten you? I need more information."

"For what?"

"Just answer the damn question."

"Fine. He's all covered in blood. His eyes, it was fast, but I'm sure it glowed up. His skin is pale white. Also, he growls like an animal or whatsoever. He creeps me out."

"It's a Nephilim then. Fortunately, the curse did not affect you." Deikher stated.

"Huh? How? It's not large in size. I've already seen a Nephilim and it just destroyed my village. And also, what curse are you talking about?" Marces said.

"Kid, a Nephilim does not always have to be 10 meters tall. I'm a hunter so I am more knowledgeable about this. Also, the curse, I don't know how to explain it to someone of your age so forget about it."

Marces stares at him. "You're a hunter? Really? I badly want to become one."

Deikher smiled. "I don't think a crybaby like you could become one."

"What? Crying is natural, especially when you just lost someone special. I want to kill those Nephilims. I want to avenge my father and my mother."

"A hunter's life is truly dangerous. Life is an object. It could be taken anytime anywhere. Do you still want to become one? You just witnessed the Nephilims, and I'm sure you are afraid of them now."

"Fear? Yes. I was afraid, but not really because of the Nephilims. I was afraid that I would lose my father."

Deikher is just staring at him. Meanwhile, he sensed a small group of Nephilims heading to them. He stands up. "What's your name, kid?" he asked.

"Kid? You seem to be the same as my age. I'm Marces." he responded.

"I can tell that I'm older than you. So Marces," he takes out his axe, "You've been wanting to become a hunter, haven't you?"

"Yes, I am."

"I'll show you what a hunter should be." he then walks to the small group of Nephilims.

When Marces saw the Nephilims, he felt fear again. "Wait. Those are Nephilims. Aren't we going to go away?" he queried.

Deikher grinned. "Marces, I'm a type of hunter who does not run away." he dashes to the Nephilims with his axe.

He is extremely fast. In fact, he is even faster than the horse he is riding. He leaps and strikes the head of one of the Nephilims. Then he leaps again to surely cut it off. When the head of the Nephilim falls off, its body drops off to the ground as well. In just a matter of seconds, he killed the Nephilim. There are only two Nephilims left. Marces is totally amazed. He cannot believe that a guy can possibly do something like that. Deikher jumps so high that he could effortlessly reach the head of a 10-meter Nephilim. He is also swift and agile. The Nephilims cannot even catch him. He seems like he is playing with them.

Eventually, Deikher severs the head of the other two Nephilims. After that, he comes to Marces with a smile. Marces is speechless. He is just amazed by what happened.

"A hunter should go beyond the limits of an ordinary man." Deikher stated. "Let's move on. I'll take you to my place."

Marces still cannot speak. He gets over his horse, and they travel.

"Deikher, how did you do all that?" Marces asked.

"You mean, to kill the Nephilims?" Deikher clarified.

"I mean, all that. Those moves, techniques, and what's with your axe? How did you cut the head of those Nephilims?"

"You probably won't believe me, but what I just did is nothing compared to what I'm really capable of. All those moves, techniques are result of my strenuous trainings and life-or-death situations. Killing a small group of Nephilims is nothing to be proud of, actually."

"You must really be strong. I want to become like you." Marces said.

Deikher just smiled. They travel from Ladros to Warmuth, where his place is located. Warmuth is the area on the North of Ladros and Northwest of Musta. It is separated by a series of adjoining mountains known as the Delian Mountain Range. It took several hours of travel. When they arrived to the location, Marces is confused since he is expecting for buildings and houses. However, there is not a single one. In reality, they are in a jungle. They got off the horse. Marces sees a beautiful sight. There is a waterfall and beautiful floras and faunas all around.

"Deikher, this place is so beautiful. You're living here?" Marces asked.

"Not really. This is just our main hideout. We usually travel all around the world and accomplish our missions." Deikher answered.

"Wow. Being a hunter must be good.

"Marces, I took you here because I know that you want to become a hunter. If I invite you to become one, will you join us?"

"Me? You don't have to ask me. I'll gladly join you." Marces said.

"I guess I was right when I thought it's useless to ask you that question." Deikher then smiles as a response. They moved to the waterfall where the hideout can be found.
