Chapter 2: Chapter Two: Who is he?

There stood a beautiful boy, his hair softly rustled, and his almond, cerulean eyes glistening.

"Um… Is this Yamamoto Haru's house?" he smiled, softening the delicate features of his face. "The teacher asked me to bring this."

He extended his hand and handed over a few worksheets.

"Hello Asahi-san." Haru greeted with utmost exuberance.

"You know him, Haru?" I questioned, witnessing no familiarity in the boy before me.

"Asahi-san is the teacher's son. He comes over sometimes to help us!" Haru answered, already scanning over the worksheets. "Hey Asahi-san! Why don't you come inside to have dinner with us?"

"Uh… I don't want to impos-" he began.

"No worries!" Haru interrupted, dragging Asahi-kun over the dining table with his sleeve. "Onee-chan makes the best cooking!"

I stood, very still on the doorway. Confused, I followed them like a lost puppy.

"So… Asahi-san?" Haru began with a mischievous grin, "I heard Sensei complaining about you having no interest in dating anyone. You know… my sister would be an excellent wife and she's single!"

Hah. As if anyone in the right mind would date me once they saw my natural face, let alone marry me.

"Don't be ridiculous, Haru." I snorted, spooning the curry into the bowls, "I don't have enough time on my hands to hang out with my friends, let alone date."

"You don't hang out with your friends because you don't like them." Haru deadpanned with seriousness not fit for a child his age, "I see how you look at them. You don't think of them as good people and you're completely fake around them."

"Haha, you're misinterpreting the situation." I laughed weakly and excused myself to the bathroom.

HARU'S PERSPECTATION:

My sister was a hopeless case. Onee-chan had always guarded her heart and was constantly cryptical of people she didn't know well. At home, Onee-chan tended to be mature and cheerful. As I stated before, she was the perfect wife. Three years ago, Mum and Dad had gotten demanding jobs to pay for our necessities and pushed all the responsibilities onto Onee-chan. But I wasn't fooled. What jobs could the possibly have that would take so much of their time? We weren't so poor that we needed them to work constantly. After a little bit of investigation, I had found out that Mum and Dad used the excuse of 'working' as some time to cheat freely on each other. I was dubious Onee-chan had caught on yet, she wasn't as intuitive as I was.

In a short period of time, Onee-chan learned how to cook, tutor, do laundry and yet, finish her school-work with outstanding marks. I had thought maybe she was doing so well and positively because she had finally made reliable friends who would support her mentally and physically.

Regrettably, that was not the case. Onee-chan had a tendency to mix in with the popular group due to her 'good looks'. Once, on my way back home, I saw Onee-chan talking with her friends. She was smiling forcefully and her eyes held no mirth whatsoever. She was like a plastic marionette. I realised, that, Onee-chan had never invited her friends to our house.

As soon as she left, her 'friends' started complaining about her. I had a feeling Onee-chan knew that they said these things behind her back, but, she somehow she wanted to 'fit in'? Wearing makeup and having a fake cheerful attitude was part of it.

Humans were easy to interpret once I started studying the people around me. I knew exactly who didn't like me and what could be said to change their minds. A bit of flattery , maybe a little bit of adulation, I could dangle the puppet's strings over my fingers. Call me cryptical or even manipulative, but this was the only way I knew how to survive in this world. The only person who I couldn't fool and who I genuinely cared about was Onee-chan. But now, I decided she needed a companion who would she could rely on, beside me. And I would do anything to obtain that for Onee-chan.

"So Asahi-san, what school do you go to?"

I rushed back from the bathroom, that little brat might try to set me up with him again! When I entered the dining room, the two of them were polishing the curry and in a deep conversation.

"Ahem, I should be heading back now." Asahi-kun stated, "Thank you for the meal, it was excellent." He smiled at me, his attractive features punching my heart.

Ah… I should be focusing on caring for Haru, not crushing on a male I barely knew.

"I was my pleasure." I answered automatically, sliding my polite yet cold mask on.

Haru gave me a very long, weird look.
