Chapter 18: The Discussion

As Jason watched master Jäger introduce himself, he could sense a kind of aura around him as he talked.

Albert Jäger showed immense pride on his face when he was speaking his name, especially when he got to the part of adding 'master' as his title.

Jason didn't know what pride had to do with his name or even why he showed that kind of confident look while saying his name. But then again, Jason was just an inexperienced youth and hadn't seen much of the world.

Any military veteran or professional fighter that saw Albert Jäger's look would definitely know that he was someone with a lot of achievements to his name whether they be military or mercenary in nature.

Jason didn't think too much about the pride thing but just let it go. He decided to carry on the conversation by choosing which name to call the expert in front of him.

"Alright master Jäger, thank you for having me here once again." He said as he chose to call him by his title and surname as it showed more respect.

Master Jäger nodded slightly, pleased with Jason's decision before spreading his hands and inviting Jason into one of the buildings for a little talk.

Naturally, he couldn't leave the yard unsupervised so he called one of his personal disciples to take over for the time being while he walked in to accompany Felicia and Jason.

They walked into the meeting room in one of the buildings and sat down naturally.

Master Jäger and Felicia sat on a long couch in the room while Jason sat opposite them on a similar couch on his own.

Master Jäger didn't go straight into his testing but started by asking Jason the reason why he wanted to learn martial arts and where he sees his limit in the pursuit of martial arts.

As Jason listened to the question, he actually gave it deep thought because he knew that although the answer might not affect whether he would study in the compound or not, it might affect the quality of teachings he'd get so he had to give his answer carefully.

The whole room was silent for a few minutes while Jason was contemplating an answer. No one disturbed him or rushed him for an answer as they just stared at him waiting.

"I want to learn martial arts because I want to learn to protect myself and my loved ones but that's not all."

"Initially, my desire to learn martial arts started because I was curious. As a book lover and a very imaginative person, martial arts has always intrigued me so this time as I was out in the world to experience a bit, I decided that I would at least dabble in martial arts."

"But a certain encounter I had forced me to be more serious about learning it as it would become too important for my future so that's why I'm here. As for where I see my limit in martial arts, I see no such thing. I can't start the journey of learning by setting a personal or 'logical' limit on myself. That takes away my potential and limits my view on the art so I'd say I have no limit, I want to see the peak of martial arts."

Jason took a few minutes and delivered his well thought out answer.

He was completely honest about it as nothing he said was fabricated. He only didn't mention his 'encounter' as he clearly wasn't obligated to do so, he wouldn't talk too much about his encounter with the phoenix god with just anybody.

As Jason finished his words and focused on the two sitting opposite him, he could see a smile on both their faces which meant that they were both satisfied with his answer.

Master Jäger slowly clapped his hands while exclaiming that he was impressed with his answer, especially his thoughts on not limiting himself at the start of the journey of learning martial arts.

He remarked that it was always a good thing to keep an open mind whenever someone embarked on a new venture whether it was in business, romance, or just a stroll on the streets.

Felicia was by his side just nodding with her signature polite smile on her face, seemingly agreeing with everything master Jäger was saying.

Jason heard his reply and inwardly breath a sigh of relief. He was glad that he was completely honest with his reply and that his ideology matched the master's taste.

After a few more words of praise of Jason's mentality, master Jäger went straight back to business.

"Although you have the passion and a good mentality to start, you still need to go through my test before I agree to train you. After all, I need to be sure that you're at least teachable in the ways of martial arts." Master Jäger said with a serious tone.

"Alright master, that is fine with me. How would you want to test me." Jason replied.

"Combat of course. The easiest way to see how teachable you are is to put you in a fight with someone that's actually trained and see how you react. I can't teach you anything is you're clumsy with using your own body in the first place." Master Jäger said with a slight excitement in his voice.

"I'm ready for that anytime master. I'll prove to you that I'm worthy to be taught. I'm really confident with my body control too so no issues there." Jason said with a slight battle intent starting to form around him.

Ever since his fight in the gym, he had been craving a good fight to see where his limits were and now that he was going to have to fight again, he was getting excited.

"Oh, you are huh, fine then. I'll test you out in the yard. Change your clothes in the room to the right in the hallway and get to the yard. Prepare for the fight of your life." Master Jäger said with a smirk on his face.

As he was talking, he got up from the couch and started walking out the door. Felicia was right behind him as she walked out without saying a word.

Jason went to the changing room with his gym bag that had been with him all that time.

He changed quickly and in ten minutes, he was already walking out of the building in sufficient sportswear for the fight.

As he walked out, he couldn't hear any noise of training anymore as he could see that everyone in the yard had gathered on a particular area in the compound.

Knowing that they made a makeshift arena, Jason towards the crowd and made his way to the middle of the stage.

When he got to the middle, he expected to see the master himself waiting for him to duke it out. He was prepared to go all out against him to see his limits and fight to his heart's content.

Although, reality doesn't always fulfill our fantasies. In the middle of the arena waiting for him wasn't the master, but was a youth that looked about his age, if not a few years older.

Jason was dumbfounded and started looking around the arena to spot master Jäger.

Once he made eye contact with master Jäger in the crowd, the master stepped forward to announce the fight to everyone.

He wanted to preside over the fight himself so that his test could be more accurate.
