Chapter 2: Him

Running into an alley, I frantically looked around myself, trying to hear his impossibly light footsteps over my laboured breathing. I pushed myself further into the wall at my back wishing I could disappear into the shadows. Then I caught a glimpse of him, his blue, glittering skin almost blinding under the harsh sun. His hair streamed behind him as he ran, the straight, blond strands nearly breaking out of the confines of the leather band holding it.He looked around, he hadn't noticed me.

Or that's what I thought until he span around to look directly at me. His gaze burned holes through me as he began to shiver as his skin changed to a light orange. Keeping his shiny, black, seemingly empty eyes on me, he bent down into a crouch.

He pounced. I retreated back as fast as I could, further back into the alley. Pressing the cold concrete to my back, I tried to turn but my shaking stopped me from moving any further.

He looked up. He looked remorseful, apologetic, maybe regretful? I wasn't sure. Then slowly he straightened out of his crouch and put his hands palms towards me. I was so confused. What was he doing? Slowly and carefully, he moved towards me keeping his eyes on mine. The inhuman grace of his walk seemed both strange and hypnotic. His skin remained orange even after his change in posture and attitude which strikes me as very odd.

As he got closer I tried to move away but my eyes were glued to his. I felt as if I was under a spell.

When he reached me he placed his hand against my cheek and closed his eyes. For a moment a wrinkle formed on what would have been his for head.

Then I saw it. Memories or visions of another world. His home world. It was beautiful. It was so like earth but all species prospered there. His people lived in places which wouldn't harm the other species. Some in trees, some in fields, some underground, some underwater. The effect was beautiful.

There were far fewer of them than of us but they were happy with that and did not seek to have a larger population. Edible plants and animals lived near the settlements and the people helped raise them. This lead to them having magnificent jungles and forests with marvoulos creatures.

I felt him pulling his hand away and blinked as the visions left me. He smiled. His teeth similar but eerily different to ours. Bending down, he kissed me on the for head. "I'll pick you up soon." he whispered.

My eyes slowly opened as I took in the sight of my bedroom. The bright early morning sun piercing through the drawn curtains. I rubbed my eyes as I processed my dream. I checked my alarm, it was only 4 in the morning. Still too early I decided as I put my head back onto my pillow. As I drifted back off to sleep I heard him whisper, "Wait for me.". Then I was out cold.
