Chapter 12: Threat

It was about 10 am when Eguru woke up the next day and when he went to see Verzo he realized that he was all by himself. 'Where did he go...?'

He decided to eat breakfast and then head outside. After passing an alley of houses and finally seeing the centre of Legrandeus his guts told him that nothing good happened. In front of him were a few people that looked like paramedics. The area around them was cut off to prevent anyone from approaching them.

Alongside that barrier there were men and women observing the situation. Eguru couldn't really make out something out of their expression so he had to check it out himself.

There was blood on the ground. Blood that didn't look too old yet and a person covered with sheets was there too, so no one would have to look at a dead human being.

He didn't need to ask anyone about the cause of death. Eguru just knew it was Fabio who killed yet another human being. But that still didn't explain the disappearance of Verzo. Where did he go without telling him? Was it so urgent he just wasn't able to inform him? Or did he have other intentions like preventing Eguru from finding or following him?

If he had to take a guess, probably all of the above. 'Could it be.. Did he enter the black market? And if yes should I follow him?'

No. It would be idiotic to try and follow Verzo if he didn't even know his exact whereabouts. Even with his current location he wouldn't be able to find the black market. It has been over a month since the day of his arrival.

Deciding to take a turn someone suddenly spoke to him. When he faced the direction the voice came from he saw two people standing in front of him. They looked like a couple. 'Excuse us but would you mind giving us insight about the current situation? We don't know what's currently happening around us...' The woman asked while the man just moved his head when Eguru glanced at him. While the woman fiddled with her fingers the man hid his hands in pockets.

He then spent the next few seconds explaining what happened and who holds responsibility for the murder of multiple victims. The couple thanked him and Eguru thought about the improvements he made the last couple of weeks. Telling them about Fabio and his actions wasn't as hard as he thought. Maybe he was extremely gifted in terms of language after all?

After walking around and examining the people around him he decided to walk down alleys he has never even paid attention to before.

'I didn't know the structure of Legrandeus was so complicated. Everytime I get deeper into those alleys I find new paths to walk down.. I hope I even find out of here man..'

Sometimes he saw a few animals like cats and rats assuming those cats were hunting their prey. Slowly he felt more and more uncomfortable the further he took his journey in between tons of buildings. It got darker, even more quiet than he had expected it - so he decided to go back when it was almost impossible to make out something down these streets. Oh how he regretted even thinking about going into that one alley.

As soon as his back faced the dark his hearing picked up steps coming from behind. Never underestimate the dark. With a quick turn he was facing the threat.

'Don't tell me...' Eguru began to tremble inside. 'Of course it had to happen now. I saw it occuring often enough in movies and TV-shows so I should have fucking known dude.'

Evading the knife that almost got stuck in his abdomen his reflexes saved him in the last moment. No one other than Fabio, the mass murderer himself was trying to kill Eguru. 'How stupid am I, damn it.' He clenched his fists.

A situation like that was new to him so he didn't know what to do. His opponent had a knife and he himself had nothing. Except his fists.

The man infront of him didn't bother moving. Eguru was just observed by him the entire time and to make things even worse he now heard a new set of steps coming closer rapidly. Fabio looked like something dangerous for him was approaching and when Eguru noticed he wasn't paying attention he ran off as fast as he could. The killer following. "Damn you..! I should've killed you immediately"

Eguru's heart was beating unbelievably fast and he was as scared as back then when he tried to survive for 3 hours.

Fortunately those streets had a lot of lefts and rights so he tried to confuse Fabio a little - which in some way worked. But the distance between those two didn't become greater at all. The other man was faster than Eguru and that had him worried. He still occasionally heard the noise of another person following, or at least running around near them which was another concering factor. Who could it be that even a murderer was afraid of?
