Chapter 10: A New Life

Tunir stepped out of the town hall with the deed and key to his new home in hand. Thanks to the players that had constantly purchased items from him, he had quite the storage of gold. He had so much gold at this point that he could buy a house like this every single day for a month and not even burn a full percent of his gold supplies.

Tunir took a deep inhalation of the air around him as he gave a large smile. It had been quite some time since he felt so free, so this feeling was very liberating. He didn't have much time to mess around though, as he needed to get back to Mary and move into their new home. Tunir blushed slightly at the thought of living with Mary. He didn't intend for it to work out this perfectly, but it seemed like life just threw him a bone for once.

With a spring in his step, Tunir went down the street towards his new home.

After a short period of time that was spent walking and whistling, Tunir finally arrived at the covered wagon that was parked in front of the wooden building. The "for sale" sign in front of the property was gone for some reason, but since strange things had been happening in his life for a while now, Tunir decided to not question it.

"Mary, I bought the house!" Tunir smiled and declared.

"W-What? Did you get a mortgage? A loan?"

"Nope! I have plenty of money, remember?"

Mary stared at Tunir with a dumbfounded expression. Buying a house outright is quite the feat.

"Come on, let's go inside!" Tunir shouted as he grabbed Mary's hand. She was taken by surprise at this, but she decided to go along with it.

The wooden door opened with a loud "Ker-thunk" noise as the lock was undone. The hinges of the door creaked as it opened.

"Whew! It's dirty in here!" Mary shouted as she waved her hand in front of her face to displace the dust around her.

"Hmph. Don't worry about that, Mary! Ahem… Emergency quest!" Tunir shouted out.

It only took one minute before someone arrived.

"Excuse me, but I heard that there was an emergency quest?" The player asked.

"Yes! I need this house cleaned and the items in the covered wagon over there moved into the house!" Tunir smiled as he stated this. It took him some time to understand the system he was abusing, but he finally felt like he had a solid grasp of this "quest" system.

"Oh, really? That sounds kinda tedious…" The player scratched the back of their head (though they were wearing a plate helmet so they were just rubbing metal) and said.

Tunir was not prepared for a player to actually turn down a quest. He had only ever experienced people clamoring for the opportunity to take his quests so he never thought a player would say no.

"Hm… Is there any way I can convince you to do it?" Tunir asked.

"Well, it's nothing against the actions. It seems easy to do, it's just that the time sink and the payout isn't really worth it…" The player shrugged.

"See, here." The player opened up the brown screen that Tunir was familiar with and pointed at a small box. It read out "Experience: 20. Gold: 5."

"Ah, I see…" Tunir muttered to himself as he cupped his chin in thought. How would he fix this? Could he manipulate those numbers?

"What if it was 50 experience?" Tunir decided to ask.

Suddenly, the value on the brown box ticked up from 20 to 50.

"W-Woah! That's a bit better, yeah. It's not really worth it though…" The player looked away for a moment.

"Fine. One thousand experience." Tunir decided to lay all the cards on the table. He had no idea what the limit he could set for this was, so he decided to throw that number out there to test the waters.

To his astonishment, the number rose from 50 to 1000.

"W-Wow! That's amazing! I don't even get this much experience from an lfg! Okay, I'll totally do this!" The player declared.

Tunir jumped in happiness at this. Now he knew he could manipulate this quest system in multiple ways.

"Ah, wait… Can I have some friends help me? Will they get this much experience too?" The player suddenly asked.

"The more the merrier!" Mary declared.

"Alright!"

After some time, 10 players arrived at Tunir's home. Each of them received the quest and they began to clean out the cobwebs from the house and dust it. An activity that would have taken the whole day was cut down to a mere hour of work thanks to everyone that was working on it.

"Good work, all of you. I hold your quest fulfilled!" Tunir gave a large toothy smile as he looked over each player that had helped him with the house.

"Alright!" They all shouted. A gold energy enveloped a few of the players when Tunir finished his sentence.

"Yo, bro! You leveled up!" The speech bubble above one of the players read out.

"Well duh! A thousand experience in one quest? That's crazy!" The speech bubble stated.

The players waved goodbye at Tunir as they ran off in random directions.

The couple turned around to look at their home. The dreary dusty place that this had been an hour ago was now a lively and well put together space that had a multitude of furniture items placed inside of it. This was truly a home that was fit to live in.

"Well then, today has been eventful hasn't it?" Tunir happily asked.

"It certainly has… What is an 'Emergency quest?'" Mary turned to Tunir to ask.

"Heh…" He laughed.

"What is it?" Mary insisted.

"I don't know!" Tunir laughed out loud at this.

It felt as if their lives were finally going to go back to normal after this. Life was going to turn out okay from now on.
