Chapter 4: The Escape (Four Years Later)

It's been four years since i have been dragged to this slave mining encampment half way across the country. It's located right on the eastern border of the countries Anya my home country, and Bristoda our nearest rival.

I raise my pickax up and swing down for the thousandth time today. I grunt as I chip off another piece of coal. From the roomers, it seems that the countries are planning on going to war. I hope the Bristodian's destroy this gods forsaken country.

If I ever get out of here, I will kill them all. My long white hair is a mess and dangles behind me, my pale skin has tanned from years of exposure to the sun, and my body is now well developed with muscles. I stand at a solid 5 foot 8 inches.

A Mage walks behind me and whips my back for pleasure with a strand of magic. I grit my teeth from pain as it burns deep within my flesh. That will scar along with the hundreds of other ones. You could no longer tell that I am former nobility with my current body.

The days of being called you highness or your Majesty by the other slaves have long passed. I sigh knowing that my wishful dreams of escape and revenge are impossible. I have already given up on that years ago. Now, my only goal is to survive one day at a time until I inevitably die from exhaustion.

I look at the man next to me, if I had to guess I would say he was in his mid forties. The poor soul still dreamed of escape. What a useless notion, escape is impossible, instead he should dream about stealing food from the pantry or getting a rare day off.

I had gotten to the point where I steal food from the pantry daily. After getting caught many times, I finally learned how to move in the shadows and conceal my presence. Unfortunately even with these stealthy tricks, it was impossible to escape due to the sensory

Mages they have stationed at the gates. While on duty, anyone that comes within thirty feet of them are instantly revealed. I have gotten caught occasionally trying to steal food from the pantry by unluckily running into them while they still had the spell active.

It always ended in a good thrashing. I swing again and again, the clanging of stone and iron ringing in my ears as grime and sweat drip down my shirtless body. The strain from swinging over and over all day finally beginning to catch up to me as I feel my mussels begin to twitch. I look up at the setting sun, "only around 20 more minutes until I'm done." I think to myself.

After around 20 more minutes, I head to my bunk, and lie down and wait for the dinner bell, when I hear something I don't recognize. I hear a Horn blow in the distance.

"What the hell is that noise?" I mutter. I stand up and begin heading outside the rough tent to see whats going on when i just stand there in shock while mage run all around me screaming and prisoners hiding. From Over the mountains, hundreds of soldiers in heavy armor charge down towards us, led by a few dozen mages flying above them.

I finally get a hold of myself, "This is a chance to escape, if i play this right, I might not have to spend the rest of my life here!" I think to myself. Half armored guards are running around the camp, I scream "Now is our chance to escape, grab what you can fight and flee!" I shout.

I grab a sword and sheath out of the hand of a soldier and dive into the shadows. It seems my shout worked, as the slaves snapped out of their trance, and began attacking the guards. They were getting killed, but were managing to hold their own due to the guards confusion and severely outnumbering them.

Then all hell broke loose as the enemy mages blasted the wall with fireballs and blasts of lightning destroying large portions of it. The slaves ran out the holes as guards swarmed into them, the battle was now a three way fight between the guards, slaves, and invaders. The invaders were swiftly gaining the upper hand, I used this opportunity to break into the guard commanders quarters unnoticed.

The man in charge of the camp began opening a secret passageway he was a Silver Tier mage with powerful magic, but that wouldn't matter if I killed him without him noticing me.

I sneak up behind him and stab him in the stomach. "What the," he screamed before I covered his mouth with my hand as he tried to scream, his eyes filled with terror as he realized what was happening to him. His eyes pleaded for me to release him, but unwilling to allow him to call for help, I remain in this position until he drowns in his own blood.

While killing the man who had imprisoned me all these years felt amazing, the revenge was sweet after being tortured and disrespected by him for years on end. That was but a sweet bonus, as my true goal, is what he wore on his hip.

I reach down and grab the blade at his hip. He had always bragged about his magic sword that he had saved up all his life to buy. It was a blade that changed color depending on the wielder, and once it linked with the wielder, no other man could wield it until the former owner was killed. He had claimed it to be unbreakable, and immune to the effects of magic.

I reach down and take a large sack of gold, as well as changing into cloths, and a light set of leather armor quickly, before dashing into the secret passageway, closing it behind me. "Freedom." Was the only word I could think of. "Finally, after four years freedom."
