Chapter 35: I'm Sorry, It Was a Prank
While Xie Jian stood there focusing her attention on Ye Qingle and Zhang Ying, Lu Xifa and Ren Weiwei subconsciously inched closer to Lan Xiang.
"I don't understand this part." Lu Xifa brushed her hair behind her ear.
"Hm? It's simple." Lan Xiang moved closer to Lu Xifa and explained the problem to her thoroughly.
Lu Xifa widened her eyes, feeling like she was enlightened by Lan Xiang's explanations. Truth be told, she knew exactly what to do with the problem, but she desired to be taught by Lan Xiang as he did with the three other girls. However, when he started explaining, even she, who understood the problem completely, learned something new.
The corners of her mouth couldn't help but curl up as Lan Xiang continued hs explanation.
Ren Weiwei felt jealous seeing Lu Xifa get closer to Lan Xiang. "Xiang, teach me too."
"Hm? This problem? It's easy."
Lan Xiang turned his attention to Ren Weiwei, leaving Lu Xifa feeling like she had been thrown aside. "Hmph. What am I feeling jealous for? I don't like Xiang or anything."
Ye Qingle noticed that the two girls in front of her were in a war—a war for the guy in between them.
"Poor Jian Jian, she has to take care of so many enemies." Ye Qingle shook her head in pity. Now that she knew Lan Xiang was actually in a relationship with Xie Jian, she condemned the actions of both Lu Xifa and Ren Weiwei.
Meanwhile, Zhang Ying, who couldn't understand anything, pushed herself towards Lan Xiang. "Both of you, Weiwei and Xifa, get away! It's my turn, I'm the idiot here."
Ren Weiwei and Lu Xifa were pushed away, feeling displeased.
Xie Jian rooted for Zhang Ying. "Yes, Xiaoqin. Push them away! Haha... Wait, you're getting too close to him!"
She resumed biting her lip. "I really wanna join them! Hai..."
Glancing at Ye Qingle with caution, Xie Jian sighed. "But if I reveal myself, I'll also reveal my location to her. Then, my whole family will know where I am."
Lan Xiang patted the dust of his textbook. He really hadn't used them in a long time.
When he opened it, a cockroach slipped out of the book!
"Ah!" In a moment of shock, Zhang Ying smacked the book, making Lan Xiang drop it.
The cockroach opened its wings and flew up and out the book!
"Shit! It's flying!" Lu Xifa was terrified of flying insects, especially cockroaches and butterflies. She hurriedly made a portal and jumped in, with her head peeking out from the other side.
Ren Weiwei only froze in her position, not daring to move.
Ye Qingle got into a running position. As she opened her eyes, her pupils sparked. She blinked, and the spark was gone. "Where did it go?"
Lan Xiang shrugged in response while activating his All-seeing Eye. While looking around the room for the cockroach, his movements stopped.
Xie Jian awkwardly raised her hand and waved. "Hi~"
"Jian'er? What are you doing here?" Lan Xiang was shocked. He already forgot that Xie Jian had an invisibility technique.
The last time she used it in front of him, it was when they tried playing hide-and-seek back then. Despite her usage of the technique, Lan Xiang still easily found her, owing to the fact that she hadn't quite mastered the technique yet.
At that point, Xie Jian had no choice but to reveal herself. She sighed as she took off the water cloak around her. The reflections disappeared, and all that was left was Xie Jian in her pajamas.
"Ah, it's Jian Jian." Ye Qingle was the first to notice her appearance.
"Jian! You were here?" Zhang Ying looked excited.
"Sis Jian? Where did you come from?" Ren Weiwei regained her capability to move.
"Hehe..." Xie Jian scrambled for an excuse. "I, uh, it was a prank, I'm sorry."
"Xie Jian? Is it really her?" Lu Xifa widened her eyes. Is this the rumored girlfriend? And more importantly... is she my cousin?
She jumped out of the rift and closed it, approaching Xie Jian.
"Hi, Xie Jian. My name is... Xifa, surname Lu." Lu Xifa nervously introduced herself in front of Xie Jian.
"Surname Lu?" Xie Jian was curious.
"Do you know Granny Ran?"
"Granny Ran? You mean my grandma?" Xie Jian recalled. Lu Ran—Granny Ran in Lu Xifa's words—was her grandfather, Xie Gang's wife. In other words, Lu Ran was her grandmother.
"Yeah, she's my grandaunt. Her sister is my grandma."
"Ah, so you're my second cousin then?" Xie Jian didn't expect a family reunion to occur here.
"I think so, yeah." With an excited smile, Lu Xifa hugged Xie Jian.
"Ah? Okay." Xie Jian deemed nothing wrong with the gesture and hugged her second cousin back.
Once Lu Xifa let go, Xie Jian turned her attention towards Ye Qingle and Zhang Ying. "And you two, Qingle and Xiaoqin, what are you doing here?"
"Shh! Don't call me that. I'm not Xiaoqin." Zhang Ying took multiple sideways glances towards Lan Xiang. She winked at Xie Jian. "I'm Ying. Zhang Ying."
"Zhang Ying? Isn't that your aunt's name— Oh." Xie Jian came to a realization.
Zhang Ying was here, most likely because she didn't want to attend the Annual Yanying City Tournament for the third year in a row. And so, she changed names with her aunt and came to study in the countryside.
"But what happened to your tournament entry...?"
.....
Meanwhile, in the capital.
Zhang "Xiaoqin" kept brutalizing her opponents.
"Zhang Xiaoqin wins this round!"
Behind her mask, Zhang "Xiaoqin" sneered.
"Although I do feel bad beating up these youngsters, I'm only doing a favor for my cute niece."
.....
"Never mind that. How about you, Qingle, what are you doing here?"
"Ah, I was getting bored and followed along with Xiaoqin— ahem, I mean, Ying here. So did Xifa. Us three transferred here together."
Lu Xifa shrugged.
"Ah, so that's your situation..." Xie Jian nodded.
"Wait, wait, wait, you all know each other?" Lan Xiang and Ren Weiwei were thoroughly confused.
"Well, these two here are my friends from the capital." Xie Jian gestured at both Ye Qingle and Zhang "Ying".
"And she is apparently my cousin." She pointed at Lu Xifa.
"Then are you secretly related to Weiwei as well?" Lan Xiang intended to probe further.
"Ah, no, I don't think so at least." Xie Jian shook her head.
Ren Weiwei was disheartened.
Xie Jian, Ye Qingle, and Zhang "Ying" were all friends from the capital. Lu Xifa was a second cousin of Xie Jian. And Lan Xiang was Xie Jian's boyfriend.
She was the only one completely disconnected from Xie Jian.
"Hai... I guess that's just how coincidences work."
