Chapter 3: Slimy Encounter

The creature gooping in front of Taki was very peculiar. It was made out of a green and transparent liquid, and made weird, squishy sounds. Inside of it, floated small pebbles, dirt particles, some small bones, and a smart phone. It also had black eyes which also seemed to be made out slime. They focused on Taki, looking directly into his yellow, glowing eyes.

He was thoroughly confused.

'Is that...a smartphone?

The creature approached Taki slowly, dragging it's slimey body through the floor, leaving behind a trail of clean, debris-free stone.

Taki quickly lifted himself from the ground. The passageway was narrow, and the slime was small, leaving him enough room to jump over it. He held his breath, ready to spring upwards, when...

"Poyo-!"

"What?' He looked at the the slime, dumbstruck. 'Did that thing just...'

"Po-YO!" the slime said, 'opening' it's body to shape it like a maw. the Slime did a small bounce, jumping up into the air. It approached further, almost touching Taki's feet.

Taki quickly jumped, and bounced on the wall. While landing on the other side, his legs, tired from the chase, gave in. He rolled and hit a corner of the cave, falling to his knees while facing the slime. The sticks and the carcass that he held now splattered into the ground.

The slime quickly approached him, it's maw opening once again. However, once it was a foot away from Taki, it stopped. It looked at him, it's mouth still open.

Taki looked at the slime, and then at the Bonny's carcass.

'Oh.'

Taki threw the carcass inside the slime's maw, and heard a sickening 'crunch', as the maw closed, crushing the bones. Weirdly enough, the fangs made out of goo ripped and pierced through the corpse. The flesh and blood then quickly started to corrode, and soon enough, nothing but the bones remaining.

The slime made a 'burp' sound with it's mouth, and spat out the bones into the ground, alongside the smartphone.

"Poyoyo!" the slime said, wandering back into the deeper parts of the cavern.

Taki never felt so confused in his life. He picked up the smartphone, wiping out the goo with some of the less dry leaves he brought, and tried to turn it on, pressing onto a button on the side.

The smartphone, to his surprise, turned on! It shone, the logo of the company showing 'Dungeoneer Inc'. After a few seconds of loading, it displayed it's screen.

[Dungeoneer Inc presents zDungeonPhone 3.4! It looks like you're in a slime dungeon, would you like to receive ownership?]

[Yes] [No]

Taki stared at the yes button, thinking of all the possibilities that this entails. 'Dungeoneer Inc? zDungeonPhone 3.4? There were 2 other zDungeonPhones? What does ownership mean? Have I finally gone insane after only three days?'

Taki resigned his sanity, and pressed the yes button.

[Dungeon Ownership transfer initiated.]

[You must get the access key from the dungeon to continue.]

[Access Key: ]

'Oh, that's just great. Can't anything be simple around here? Where would I get the access key in this dungeon?'

Taki pondered for a while, and stared blankly at the deeper parts of the cave. With his eyes, he couldn't see much, as the cave twisted and turned, as an ant's nest.

He closed his eyes and focused.

The sounds on the a closed dungeon would echo, the sound waves collapsing against the wall would create certain patterns, which usually would be imperceptible to common ears.

But Taki's ears weren't common anymore. He listened while taking deep breaths, and then clapped with all the strength he had. The sound of the clap reverberating and traveling across the dungeon. As the sound of the clap died down, he opened his eyes.

He felt like a bat.

'This dungeon is not that big. The sound didn't take long to come back.' Taki muttered to himself while trying to climb the walls of the dungeon. He tried for a bit, and decided his body was too battered to stick to the walls. He collapsed on the ground.

His body refused to move. He hadn't been without sleep, food, or water for three days. The first thing he managed to hunt was just used to feed the damn slime, and now there he was, having a dizzy spell.

Taki closed his eyes, focusing on listening.

It was peaceful, having his eyes closed and just listening. He had grown used to it, as most of the time, his ears told him more than his eyes did. He listened to the goopy sounds coming from inside the dungeon, the sounds of running water, the sounds of wind coming from the holes in the barred entrance, the sounds of his own breathing and blood circulating. Then another sound began: the sound of water droplets hitting the rooftop of the forest, and then landing on the ground.

It was raining.
